Just seeing that wide receiver depth chart puts me at ease. Collins, Gilbert, and Cam Williams not even on there. It's good to have a little depth.

From Angi De Carlo (local guy);

The tradition continues for Marcus Freeman. He opened the first day of practice this morning by walking through and shaking hands with every player on the field during preseason warmups.

Here are observations from the first day:

Neither Riley Leonard nor Steve Angeli were particularly impressive, but neither necessarily was poor. Leonard ran the 1st team. Angeli the 2nd. In terms of mobility, Leonard looked good and healthy.

During 11 on 11, safety Adon Shuler nearly came away with an interception on a short pass. Much later, he sprinted to grab a ball that landed in the stands, leaped over a big bucket & sprinted back to the field. He’s competing for a starting safety spot opposite Xavier Watts.

Benjamin Morrison prevented Jayden Thomas from making a catch in bounds during 11 on 11. When they returned later, Thomas made the catch over the top. Morrison appeared to misjudge it. Morrison also recovered a fumble during punt drills. His recovery looks like it’s going well.

Corner Chance Tucker struggled. He was grabbing the jersey of wide receiver Micah Gilbert multiple times. Gilbert made the catch on one of them.

Later, he caught the wrath of Coach Freeman.

24 year old punter James Rendell of Australia certainly can boom the ball. For having a rugby background and not American football background, he was impressive to watch.

Nothing new here but Eli Raridon is big and athletic. If he can stay healthy, he can be a special player at tight end.

Beaux Collins and Jayden Thomas stood out as wide receivers.

Aamil Wagner had a good day at offensive tackle.

Overall though, the defensive line had the leg up on the offensive line as you would expect considering the experience gap.

Here’s who ran #1 offense for Notre Dame at practice #1:
QB: Riley Leonard
RB: Jadarian Price
WR: Jaden Greathouse, Jayden Thomas & Beau Collins
TE: Eli Raridon
LT: Charles Jagusah
LG: Rocco Spindler
C: Ashton Craig
RG: Billy Schrauth
RT: Aamil Wagner

Prister and Co said C Gray is ahead of Mickey at the corner opposite BenMo. Also pointed out Spindler and Wagner with the one's like DiCarlo did.

The only concern on D is the next four DB's. At least one of the Freshman will have to play. Chance Tucker must have really looked bad, they're all talking about that. WR depth is impressive.

TBF the fellas on II said that Chance Tucker is certainly better than he played today and he's shown that in the past. Just not his day, maybe some cobwebs.

But yes, CB depth is concerning though if one of the young guys emerges as the CB4, we will be okay. I also think there is some versatility at S for some guys to drop into Nickel.

Also, I love Raridon and think he's got loads of potential (if he can stay healthy) but in what world is he starting over a healthy Mitchell Evans

Interesting. II Seemed to think Leonard looked pretty sharp and noted that he was 8/11 during the team period.

Freeman said both he and Angeli made some nice throws.

Then Pete Sampson tweeted that the QBs were, quote "In attendance." when a fan replied to his tweet listing players that stood out, with no mention of any QB.

Seems like there are some mixed feelings about QB play. However, no need to panic. Lot of new guys running routes, a new QB in Leonard who missed a lot of Spring, etc.

Prister said that Harrison looks explosive every time they watch a practice, and also noted that Beaux Collins is shifter than he appears and is a "good, veteran football player, Jayden Thomas battled with BenMo today and made at least one really nice grab, and they said Greathouse looks much more explosive compared to last season.

By putting some pieces together, I think there’s a rule for the media where they can’t really say anything about players until after Freeman’s PC. I think that’s why we got Sampson’s comment.

I trust II’s opinion over DiCarlo.

How many corners do they need? They’ve NEVER been 4 deep at cornerback, not since I’ve paid attention. I’d bet Rod Heard plays corner before anyone else does.

I completely agree, this is better depth than we've had as long as I can remember.

Yeah, you might be on to something. That would add up

Raridon and Evans could form a dynamite 1-2 punch at tight end. Team is significantly better at wr and te this year. Love the reports that Wagner is already running with the 1s.

I thought Noie was just a basketball guy.

Since we didn't hear anything from II, Pete Samspon, Eric Hanson etc., you know, the well-respected ND football beat guys (or hell, even Marcus Freeman himself) that the effort wasn't there, I'm not gonna worry about this article.

Noie doesn’t realize it’s not 1985 anymore.
This isn’t the first day of practice.
They have been practicing since the spring, then summer. This is like practice 30, not 1.
Guess what Noie, the first day of spring practice was very energetic.
This isn’t the first day, moron.

Yeah that column is the whiniest, trolliest nonsense imaginable. It is as lazy as he seems to pretend our football program is. Lazier.

I watched a video on 247 and Loren Landow seems to be paying off in the weight room.
