Autobids for conference champions should be where they are ranked, if outside the top12 then start at 12 and fill in up. Data by the truckload needs to be used as well. Did we have a tough schedule this year? No, but who knew FSU and USC etc would be trash. It wasn't like ND was just getting by these teams, they pounded them mercilessly. Except for NIU which is inexcusable but an 11-1 ND should never be talked about not being in the playoff.
I stand by what I say about a 3 loss team. Should not make the playoff, period.

Do you think SMU would have had 1 loss if they played South Carolinas schedule this year?
South Carolina desrved to be in more than Alabama. All 3 losses to ranked teams, 2 of them by a total of 5 pts. They had the LSU game won and let it slip away. They lead going into the 4th against Bama. 4 of their last 5 games were wins against top 25 teams at time of play including clemson and beating a&m’s ass.

I get they lost to both ole miss and alabama, but their schedule was high levek dofficulty snd they didnt lose to any outliers, and were highly competitive in every game minus the loss to ole miss where they just had a clunker.

They had the most to be pissed about imo.

It doesn't matter if they played each other, and I personally I think SCar had the least to complain about tho. The only thing they can complain about is Clemson, and that's because they beat them recently. They lost to both Alabama and Ole Miss, they should be ranked behind them. Winning matters and you don't get points for losing close games. It's an imperfect system and I think the biggest issue is with seeding and auto byes, not with the selection of teams.

I don’t think SMU should be in but the committee decided not to punish anyone for losing their CCG. I get why but not sure it’s the best decision.

So you should get in with a soft ass schedule because you didnt lose any games over a better team that an incredibly tough schedule but lost a couple highly competitive games against ranked teams? What are we rewarding with that? Losing less games against a horrible schedule where you lost to BYU and Louisville was your best win doesnt make you more deserving.

In EVERY SINGLE model, Indiana was a top 12 football team. SP+, Sagarin, BCS, Anderson & Hester, Colley Matrix, AP, Coaches, all of them. It wasn't the committee. It was unanimous that Indiana was a top 12 team this year.

If there was an issue with Indiana in the playoff, it's not the committee's fault. It's that we shouldn't have a 12-team playoff in the first place.

SP+ (yuck) has Ol Miss 3 and Bama 4...
Sagarin has both Bama and Ol Miss ahead of Indiana....
BCS has Bama at 11
Colley has Bama at 10
Anderson & Hester has Bama and SCAR in the top 12
AP - Bama at 11
Coaches - Bama at 11
Committee - Bama at 11

It was unanimous that Alabama was in the top 12 teams this year.

It’s simply a positive feedback loop.

FSU was 14-0 last year with a bunch of returning players and passed the “eye test” (and was full of NFL talent )through the preseason only to end up being terrible.

That's what the current SoS rankings use. The current avg Top 25 team.

Pretty much. Arbitrary. Biased. Yes. 😆. Tennessee didn’t belong and I was never high on them but they benefited from the arbitrary rankings all year. I think Carolina had a much better claim even over Them and Clemson and SMU

Since you didnt answer my question I will very directly ask it again.

SMU won 11 games against the 77th toughest schedule in the country with a loss to BYU and their best win being Louisville.

South Carolina had the 12th toughest schedule in the country, lost 3 games to ranked SEC opponents including 2 games by 5 pts total. They beat A&M handily and then Clemson.
They also played LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Missouri (and a down Oklahoma team and tough vanderbilt team).

Do you believe SMU is an 11 win team againdt that schedule?

Alabama and Ole Miss also had top SOS but I will leave at with the SC comparison for purposes of the question.

You cannot answer what SMU would have done with South Carolina’s schedule. It’s a hypothetical. You may think you can but we don’t know.

What you can unequivocally answer is when faced with multiple good teams, per your usage of SOS, South Carolina will most likely lose the game.

I don't think SMU would be 11-1 against that schedule but I don't KNOW anything. The goal isn't to create the best 12 team playoff. The goal is to find the best team. No one knew for a fact that SMU wasn't the best team. But we all knew for a fact that South Carolina wasn't.

I agree with you.

Is anyone going to punish ND for the schedule being softer? No and you know why because when this schedule was put together FSU,USC, Louisville were ranked and or good teams. It’s not ND’s fault that FSU was complete trash.

Holy hell, it was Christmas, sorry for spending the day with family and not responding quick enough. I don't think any team with 3 regular season losses deserves to get in over a team with one regular season loss. Especially a 3 point loss to a top 20 team. I don't think the SEC is all that, and I'm tired of giving them the benefit of doubt simply because they're the SEC.

That's fine. If they wanted to make the argument that Alabama should have been in, then they should make that argument.

That's a different argument than saying that Indiana should have been out.

Yep. Half the conference starts out ranked preseason and then when they beat eat each other it’s a positive feed back loop in the rankings.
