Yep. Half the conference starts out ranked preseason and then when they beat eat each other it’s a positive feed back loop in the rankings.
There are computer models that don't use any kind of human input, including preseason polls.

That's fine. If they wanted to make the argument that Alabama should have been in, then they should make that argument.

That's a different argument than saying that Indiana should have been out.
Also, being top 12 does not mean they should be in. There are 5 autobids and 7 at large bids.

This isn’t true. Most power rankings include recruiting rankings and/or priors. Either would be biased to an Alabama over Indiana.

Rightfully so? Probably but it is not strictly hard data.

Correct, which is kind of my point. Most peoples' beef isn't with the Committee per se, it's with the framework within which the Committee was forced to operate.

Regardless, 2 of of the 5 autobids were consensus top-12 anyways, so there were only 3 "invaders" who jumped the line. So the top 9 deserved to be in, and Indiana was top 9.

I said "there are computer models," I did not say "EVERY computer model." Yes, there are models that only rank teams based on what happened on the field over the course of the season.

No way an 11-1 SEC or Big 10 team is getting left out. The only reason it was a question was because it was Indiana and they have a terrible history in football.
I think this is a big part of it, honestly. If this were Michigan St people would be like "wow, Johnathan Smith did it, MSU is back! Their only loss is to Ohio St, and they were blowing everyone else out. Incredible!"

I also think the timing of IU's loss to OSU hurt the perception. If they do that in early October and blow out Nebraska in November people might be more inclined to be like "well sure they lost to OSU early, but look at how much better they are now. That's a Nebraska team that took OSU to the wire!"

Very cool video, hard not to get some goosebumps and sad that ESPN went out of their way to try to make it sound like last weekend was anything other than special. The sights and sounds are amazing!

There aren't many moments where you say "I'm going to remember this for the rest of my life" as it unfolds, but I'm never ever going to forget December 20, 2024.

I know this is bad juju to do before the Georgia game but I'll have 3 or 4 tickets for sale to the Orange Bowl if we make it if anyone wants to put their name in.

My buddy is a big shot for Ryder so I may be in their box. But if that falls through...I'll be looking for 2. So I'm definitely a good lead...lol

I’m in. Took my son to the Indiana game, taking my wife to Georgia. Will probably take my daughter to the Orange Bowl. Then me and the old man for the NC game. That’s the plan anyway.

Pretty much. Arbitrary. Biased. Yes. 😆. Tennessee didn’t belong and I was never high on them but they benefited from the arbitrary rankings all year. I think Carolina had a much better claim even over Them and Clemson and SMU
I agree on SCAR being a deserving SEC at-large team. I still don't think Indiana deserved to be in with only 1 win against a winning team over any of the SEC teams, but it doesn't matter
Which ones?
This one. I can link the pdf where he breaks down how he arrives at a sos rating. It's math that is beyond me.

Another stats-based power rankings with Indiana as the ~#10 team in country. Likely is one of our best wins in decades when you look at just how we dominated the game against a borderline top 10 team. The fact that it’s “Indiana” Is leading to us not getting the Credit we deserve.

Yeah. Of all the teams to question Indiana isn’t one of them. I have serious questions regarding Clemson, SMU, and Tennessee

Indiana gets little to no credit because (my opinion) college football fans and commentators are largely a bunch of lazy morons who don't understand that football is played on defense just as much as on offense. They like to watch the pretty football go all over the field. And they never learn anything about defense and schemes and percentages of stops and stealing points (ex. three vs seven) etc etc etc. They are marginal at best offensively-knowledgeable and right up to zero or minus defensively-knowledgeable. Plus the average fan seems to look at single players in a given play and think that tells them what all went on. Amazes me. It is a rare fan who has a coach's eye and holistic game awareness.

Ask Al Golden whether our defense is just as important as our offense in winning games --- then ask Mike Denbrock the same question and get the exact same answer. Both those guys knew how good Indiana's defense was, and (when the season is over) I'll bet they'd say that it was better than Ole Miss's D or Bama's D, or a lot of other criers.

The big difference being NFL teams are much more regulated than college teams.

IF there's a clause that keeps us maxed out at 5, then there should be a clause that ANY team that doesn't play in a conference championship cannot get a bye either.

For example: if Ohio State beat Michigan and played in the B10, then Penn State couldn't be a top four seed.
I think the playoff will go to 14, with only two byes (both of which will probably be the SEC and Big 10). That will give us the opportunity to be #3. IMO.

In 2008 the Patriots were 11-5 and missed the playoffs while the 8-8 Chargers hosted a game.
Both Giants teams that won the SB as underdogs over the Patriots were Wild Card teams. Still not apples-to-apples comparison to CFP but I think the gap will be closed w/ NIL & portal. I predict at some point soon if the playing field continues to level, an SEC collective will go ballistic & blatantly buy as many elite players as possible if perception grows that SEC is losing it’s hold as the dominant conference.

I also wonder how they will respond if they consistently lose away games in the cold. I have zero doubt that we would have beaten Bama or Ole Miss in the opening round, partly because of how cold it was. Tennessee looked like they wanted to be anywhere else than on that field against OSU.

And there are WAY less... NCAA is dealing with over 100 teams in total. Even just the Power4 have as many (or more) teams than the NFL. They also play more games, which gives us a much better read on who they really are.
