My wife taught him in HS. I told her then that he was dumb to go there and be behind Allar on the depth chart. He's definitely good enough to start at a lot of places.

Would Notre Dame force a team to pay it?
They let Kelly walk for free.
It's amazing how people take a message board rumor from someone who was a non-insider and run with it as fact.

There was literally no evidence that this occurred.

Considering the portal is closing on the 28th, Beau may have been forced to make a decision to transfer without knowing if Allar was coming back next year. Wildly broken system.

IMO Allar is going to be a first round pick, and might go as high as #3 QB, he's gonna wow some scouts with his traits.

Players on teams in the playoffs have until 5 days after their teams are eliminated.

Right. He has plenty of time to enter. His potential destination may have put the pressure his spot being taken on or offered money to not play (avoid injury).

This here is the absolute worst thing about college football right now, the system in its current state is so broken this guy thought this was his best option. I’m not even blaming the kid but good lord the optics of this is hot garbage

The college football calendar is broken. The problem is that there isn't a clear solution to fix it.
start by getting rid of conference championship games - the champ should be who ever has the most wins at the end of the regular season.

Which ended up being a damn great decision.
Topping an employee's other offer only works in the short term.
I think he’s referring to the rumor that LSU didn’t have to pay a buyout for hiring Kelly. Either he didn’t have one in his contract, we didn’t enforce it, or ND didn’t fulfill its side of the contract (didn’t build facilities for example) and it voided the buyout clause. Or, they did pay a buyout and nobody knows what they’re talking about.

I got what was being said. My point is when someone wants to leave a company, it is very rarely a good idea to fight to keep them. They are already out the door.
IN CBK's case specifically, if enforcing a buyout would have screwed his LSU deal and forced you to then keep him, then waive the clause and walk him out. He was already gone for days or weeks before.

All the other cases you mention might also apply...and I know nothing of those, just the psychology of offers and counter offers.

Given his guaranteed contract, if there was an enforced buyout, I think LSU would have paid it.

Just my read on the situation, but Kelly was the first coach in history to leave ND willingly for another coaching position. When you're Jack Swarbrick, I imagine you know this little bit of trivia and know that optics really matter for this potential embarassment. So I think there was a reason Jack made it very public that ND didn't make a matching offer, likely put out the rumors that it didn't enforce the buyout, and put so much effort into stopping the staff from following BK. The goal was to say (without speaking) that ND was just about as done with this relationship as BK was, and was holding open the door for him to walk out of.
