Scott booker
Scott Booker coached TE's and to a lesser extent, st in his stint at ND from 2012-2016.

In that time, he coached Tyler Eifert (2012), who led the team in catches/ rec yards/ tds while being an all American, Mackey winner and 1st round pick.

Troy Niklas was next and while most would agree he didn't reach his potential at nd, he was drafted in the 2nd round a year after Eifert.

He followed that up with Ben Koyack, Durham Smythe, Tyler Luatua, Nic Weishar and Alize Mack. Not shabby, and Mack could've been the best of them if not for some mental issues.

He also coached Kyle Brindza, Tyler Newsome and Justin Yoon during that time.

High standards, for what is deemed to be poor, even by IE board standards.... I'm not calling Booker great by any stretch, but his players generally played well, produced and went to the league.

Name the last coordinator demoted who stayed on as a position coach? Highly unlikely Parker would stay, if demoted.

Who is the last "poor" TE coach at ND? I don't think i can name one. Imo, TE coach is the easiest position coaching job on this staff, given the amount of talent at the position most years.
Probably not as he was demoted in January to co-OC and WR Coach at WVU and fairly quickly left to join his friend MF at ND as TE Coach. But maybe because it's his bud MF, he would consider it? But likely not.

Booker definitely wasn't good given the talent he was working with, he was subpar. He was crap compared to Bernie Parmalee. Booker never coached a very successful TE that didn't first get coached by Bernie and all of the Booker proteges failed to live up to their recruiting. Even Eifert spent a year under Bernie's tutelage, he was the last TE Parmalee coached before Booker took over. Booker then had Koyack, Niklas, Smythe, Luatua, Weishar, and Mack, and none of those guys really reached their potential or the big yards that the Bernie guys saw. It wasn't till Booker was gone and Chip Long/McNulty/Parker took over TEs that we saw the position really thrive again with Kmet, Mayer, and Mitch before he got injured.

Yeah, he smurfed off to not start at Arizona State
He got injured in camp, then when he finally got healthy he came in for part of a game and then started another before picking up THREE different injuries that benched him again. He took a shit ton of sacks too, that OL was bad.
But yeah, he didn't really light the world on fire. Played decent against USC, but we know what that defense is like.

I just like making fun of his height.

I just don’t see any no brainer QB transfers right now, but that can definitely change. Pratt and Rising were the intriguing names, but both are a no go.

I’m kind of interested to see what Angeli can do

Both Buchner and Hartman are gone now... And if he brings his own QB, maybe the problem takes care of itself.
The un-doing wouldn’t be with the QB’s but the HC that decided not to hire him because his QB’s didn’t want him. Have to remember, Klein is a legend in Manhattan. He may feel a certain way about leaving that for a HC that handled matters as such.

If he was willing to leave last year (his legend status being the same then as it is now), I'm sure he'd be willing to leave now. More money. Bigger stage. Chance to legitimately compete for a national championship. I'm sure these things and MF explaining the unique dynamic that existed with Hartman this time last year would be enough to entice him.

Just some info from the II podcast a couple days ago- nothing too unexpected. I don’t think anyone really knows anything at this point

Pratt can come back to college even if he participates in the senior bowl. Prister said Pratt would either go to the NFL or come to ND (not sure if he misspoke). Sampson followed that up by saying he didn’t think Pratt would be interested in coming to ND

Sampson said Riley Leonard would be a “great” option. They didn’t discuss if he’d be interested (obviously tough to say since he isn’t in the Portal yet). We all know his passing stats weren’t great even before his injuries but good running threat. Sampson also stated a QB with running ability like Leonard or Will Howard would be ideal. I’d agree with that last part. Watching some more of Leonard I thought maybe he took off from the pocket a little too soon (like Book)

Yes, Sampson quickly corrected Prister as Pratt is a FL kid who has only played in the south and plenty of other teams would be interested in him. Prister seems to have tunnel vision in assuming Pratt would automatically be interested in ND. There’s only so much NIL money and they’ll likely need some to keep some of the veterans from declaring for draft so my guess is that while a transfer QB could be compensated well, he better want to be at ND too b/c there will be higher bidders.

We complain about the wide receivers now. Why would we bring Riley here if he can’t throw how is that going to help the wide receivers?

They did note his completion percentage was almost 70% but it was against weak competition. I think he has a noticeably better arm than Hartman but I haven’t watched enough of him to gauge his accuracy

IMO - His running ability will do more to get receivers open than anything Chansi will do this off-season — a la Ian Book. A statue like Hartman plays into the hands of the D when receivers aren’t skilled enough to get open on their own. Not saying he should be the guy, but QB mobility will only help what is a fairly pedestrian group of WRs.

I was at the Duke game and he really didn't impress me as a passer. In fact, I think he is pretty bad in that regard.

I am still rolling with a Angeli/Minchey competition.

If ND goes after a QB from the portal get a kid added for depth.
Coaches are only ones that know if that can be minchey angeli or carr…. ND must have a qb ready to win starting the first game of next year at A&M, can’t have a repeat of 2022.

Do you trust Freeman or not????

He didn’t announce he was going to the Portal for “Depth”.

If Freeman has a chance to get a top, experienced QB like Will Rogers we should be fucking ecstatic.

So we can be disappointed like we were with Hartman. Because If you think this was a good year with him and his performance you hit your head.

A couple of those losses are on the Coaching Staff. The OC needs to be upgraded and as an in-game coach Freeman needs to get his act together.
