What makes him such a poor NFL prospect?

Evaluation:

On film, Hartman displays impressive touch on his passes. He can hit a target coming over the middle of the field in stride with ease. Hartman understands when he needs to put more velocity on a pass or more touch. His ball placement for the most part was good. Hartman can hit his target in the numbers and even fit the ball into tight coverage. In terms of his athleticism, Hartman is an adequate athlete, who can pick up five to ten yards but nothing more. His overall presence on the field is very small. Hartman struggles to break tackles and looks small. His arm talent doesn’t help, as he lacks arm strength and velocity. It was difficult for him to throw the ball downfield, and he consistently forced receivers to come back to the football. When under pressure, Hartman can’t drive the football where he needs to. This leads to him just throwing the ball up for grabs, creating turnovers for the defense. For a player who’s game is built on being a game manager, who is accurate, Hartman threw the ball up aimlessly way too often. Right now, Hartman ceiling isn’t more than a potential backup. He doesn’t have upside and his skill set right now has a lot of holes. Hartman should be brought into a camp, but he will struggle to stick on a 53-man roster.

Yeah they are strictly regional (bummer, I might have to move to Carolina) but there are other fast food gigs that are national in scope and what could be more national than ND football. There's a lot of opportunities there to market "ND's Heisman Hopeful QB!".
Wahl is a national brand, they sell them at CVS and Walgreen's. Going from Wake to ND should get Hartman a nice big raise there. How about a deal with some of the other brands at those stores? Wraps, creams, protein supplements, etc. Or the CVS brand itself. That would be huge.
Opportunities abound. And we should have marketing people at the ready since we have a "top rated" business school.
We got Penguin 🐧 Point

Probably because he's an average-sized white guy that doesn't have any traits that stand out.

From what I remember, Malik was critical of Ian Book, and I KNOW he was way down on Drew Pyne this year. He probably sees Hartman as more of the same, despite Hartman's track record.

Malik wants a true dual-threat, difference-maker at QB for ND. As if they grow on trees and are easy to develop.
Mods please move to the racism thread malik hates whitey quarterbacks

1. That profile was written before the 22 season
2. Idc if he projects to the NFL, I care if he can win at a high level at ND.
Correct. And he can.

When you dig a little deeper into the advanced stats, he’s comparable to Bryce Young. And by comparable I mean he’s in the ballpark. Not that he’s interchangeable.

I personally don’t see Book at all. Book was never comfortable in the pocket. I do agree they have roughly the same arm strength and that Book is a bit more athletic. But I’m not seeing a similar playing style and just overall opposite pocket comfortability/awareness.

To me, the similarities end at size, whiteness, and the passable, but not elite arm strength.
I don't see Ian Book either. I see a similar player to Drew Brees (not calling him Drew Brees at all). He stays cool while everything is crumbling around him and then takes his shot. His accuracy looks at least very good to me. His deep ball looks great. His short game is really good too.

I think he immediately makes us a top 15 offense if our OL can replicate it's efforts this year. Then it's about individual players breaking out. Can a freshman produce a 500 yd/6 TD season? Can Lo Styles show a huge jump? Can Colzie/Thomas/Merriweather break through? Can a TE step up?

Hartman would be a slam dunk pickup for this offense. I don't think he knows what it's like to have 200+ yds of rushing that draws the defense down and then he can pick which single-covered WR he wants to throw it up to.

We shouldn’t base our CFB transfer opinion on the folks telling us Anthony Richardson and Will Levis are more valuable.
Yep. The only thing I actually care about Hartman's draft prospects are if he thinks he can improve them by coming to Notre Dame. If he was a slam-dunk early-round pick he'd be in the draft not the portal.

Would be easy to be 25-2 playing that schedule.
I don’t blame them for their conference schedule, that is what it is. Their non-conference is a joke, but they’ve done what they’ve had to do, punked their biggest rival and won back to back conference championships.

Idk if anyone mentioned already - If Hartman joins the Irish he would face his former Deacon mates on Oct 28th in Notre Dame Stadium.

Hartman was a pie in the sky wishlist guy. This would be a massive W. We’re 11-1 and preparing for a playoff game with him behind center this year.
And to think back in October they were 6-1 with their only loss being in 2 OT to Clemson. If they finish the season 11-1 or 10-2 Hartman might not have even entered the portal.

Hartman would be a terrific fit for this offense. I hope the rumors are true and he finishes his career in South Bend.

Parody of the SI evaluation Hartman vs Pyne

Hartman "His overall presence on the field is very small"
Pyne His overall presence on the field is minute
Hartman: "Is an adequte athlete, who can pick up five to ten yards but nothing more"
Pyne: Is an inadequte athlete who cannot pick up five to ten yards unless everyone is on the other side of the field.
Hartman:"Lacks arm strength and velocity. It was difficult for him to throw the ball downfield."
Pyne: Lacks arm strength and velocity. It was difficult for him to throw a 10 yard pass to the boundary.
Hartman: "He doesn't have upside and right now his game is full of holes"
Pyne: He doesn't have upside and right now his game is mostly holes.

I will concede that in one area Pyne is better. Hartman does "put the ball up for grabs" too much. Pyne doesn't so maybe we can coach Hartman up on this.

Wouldn’t be surprised if being aggressive downfield is part of the WF offensive philosophy.

Another one of their Gimmicks?

Kidding, but yeah it is along with standard RPO, play action and the dreaded 'slow mesh"

Am I the only one that would have been inclined to promise McCall or Pratt the starting reps as QB? Is Buchner so great in Rees's mind to not offer a couple of the elite QB transfer candidates a presumption as starter?

And what does being the presumptive starter mean anyways? You start the season with a couple INTs you could get benched anyways? Or are there substantial and material agreements made to these transfers?

McCall’s academic standing is that of someone that can’t even visit Auburn
