I think Leary is the better option over card, frankly. We get his best for one season, then we can get a homegrown talent in there in 24.

Leary is out. He contacted ND but ended up not being a take.

ND is going to end up with Hudson Card as long as they can figure out his academic situation.

Really? Damn not what I was hoping for.

Is this news public?

Ryan Roberts said on the IB Youtube show that Card will be graduating this month so he should (hopefully) be all set if he is the guy they bring in.

Possible maybe we're looking for more than a 1 year rental, which is what Leary would be correct?

Makes me think Card has given them some assurances so that ND wouldn't go after another QB.

I’m not sure why, though. By ‘24, Buchner, Angeli and minchey should all have enough time to have grown into competent, if not high caliber starters, assuming their talent allows. One of those three should be a hit by then.

This is exactly what the potential issue is.

Is the issue that he won't actually be graduating this month, or that him graduating somehow messes up the process?
If he graduates this month it's smooth sailing. I've heard he may not actually be able to get his degree from Texas this month which would throw a wrench in things. If he has another semester to go then things go sideways pretty quickly and you're talking about either having to make "exceptions."

So this one is screwed then.

I guess this confirms that they are not changing the policy on transfers. Otherwise, they would have waited on Leary, since Card is not a sure thing either.

I still believe they should "court" Leary, unless they straight up feel he's not a fit or the injury is a red-flag. If the Card situation falls back, you've essentially alienated one of the top QB transfers available.

How in the world do you not know if you're graduating or not?
You would think this shit is straight forward, but honestly "credits" and such can be super stupid. Administrators at colleges are idiots sometimes (as are their systems that they rely on to know whether someone in on a "degree track" or satisfied requirements for a degree).

I have a long personal story I won't waste all your time with the details but when I was at ND I had an adviser make an "oopsie" telling me I tested out of statistics (turned out engineers had to take a special one that the AP exam doesn't preclude you form) and I didn't find until I was heading into my senior year and it wouldn't let me sign up for some specific 400 level engineering courses. Ended up having to do summer school in a foreign country to get the credits or I literally wouldn't have been able to graduate on time.

Bottom line is that athletes have weird class schedules to accommodate practices and credits and it's really easy for someone to get in a situation where they're like "oops you need 3 more credit hours." And I'm not saying that's what's happening here and he's short credits, I just know that he intimated to ND that he'd graduate this December and if that holds true we're good. Also, add onto that Card is a business major and getting a real degree here.

If Leary and Card can't get into school and ND is forced to take an underwhelming transfer, what are we even doing? Just go join the MAC and sign Drew Pyne to be QB.

Well, they'd be left with Buchner (4-star), Angeli (4-star), and Minchey (4-star) for next year.

I think they definitely need to make reasonable exceptions for kids who are on track at good schools, but they don't suddenly become Miami, OH.

That shit is more common than you think lol.

I worked on a college campus. There are kids who have no idea that a degree/credit hour checklist even exists.

Then, when you hit the second semester of your graduation year, you're meeting with an advisor you've never seen and doing your degree audit. The lady tells you that sophomore year, you registered for a course that actually needed a pre-requisite, but the registrar's system didn't catch it, and now you have to petition three different offices for an exception.

Now you're in the clear, right? WRONG. You also missed the 'world arts' requirement that was a special entry in the catalog the semester you applied, and now you're being held to it, even though no other graduating class in the history of the school has had to fulfill that requirement.

You're back to petitioning, or graduating WITHOUT getting your diploma, with the promise that you will take an accelerated online course during the 3-week winter session.

(I know this shit doesn't fly at a place like ND, and *shouldn't* fly at a major football program, where advisors are paid handsomely to track this stuff on behalf of the student athletes... but it definitely gets weird at big state schools, especially when you're talking about college kids that can go 4 full years without ever actually meeting an advisor after initial registration.)

True. But that's what a total of 2 games of college experience? Not exactly confidence inspiring.

Maybe get a new OC who is better at evaluating QB's?

I fully expect ND to add a quality grad transfer QB.
