Or the 2012 National Championship game, where we got beat in the tunnel before it even started. Probably wouldn’t have won that game either way, but yes absolutely could not get his teams motivated.

I’ve been beat on a little on this board because some didn’t like my posts about BK, and I don’t really care. I was done with him after the 2016 mess. Yes he turned ship around and won a lot of games. But barely scraping by the Temples of the world isn’t exactly success in my book. The playing down to competition was also very evident.

But, that’s over with, at least from him.
For all the bad things to say about BK, his track record against the Temples of the world is a weird thing to disparage him on. He was literally Saban-esque against the non-Top 25. Bag on him for not recruiting and thus not having the talent to go toe-to-toe with top teams. But don't say he wasn't good against bad teams. We may be in for a rude awakening if we find out what it's like to have a coach who loses head scratcher games lol.

Honest question, seeing how BK just appeared to do the bare minimum in recruiting… do you think he also did bare minimum in game prep? Leading to those big game blow outs or coming out unprepared against the like of night games in Miami/Michigan?
I don't believe he did the bare minimum of anything.

Could he have done more from a recruiting standpoint? Most definitely. We're seeing that in the last few months.

Didn’t we hold the longest unbeaten streak against unranked teams before BK left?

Is there any ND fans out there who are still upset Kelly left? We are way better off

I was upset at first, because I like to stand behind our coach. The way he left & addressed the team vs. how Link Jarrett addressed the baseball team showed Kelly's true professionalism.

ND is better off without Kelly, but any chance I get I'll watch some LSU games this year.

But that’s exactly my point, he wasn’t always good against bad teams, and even lost or nearly lost many of those.

So when you look at his W/L record yeah it looks good, unless you watched all of those games, then it doesn’t look so good. Yes we won some good games, and also won some comfortably, but there were too many head scratching games for me to say yep he was successful.

I’m also all about MF, but I’m not naïve, he’s proven he can recruit, but that’s just one piece of the pie isn’t it. So yeah it would absolutely be a huge disappointment if we find ourselves back in the same boat once again, but then that’s not something we aren’t all already accustomed too is it?

I think Brian Kelly's biggest fault was showing too much loyalty to some of his coaches and he kept them around way too long which cost us a lot of recruits and games. Freeman won't put up with lazy recruiters.

Anyone hearing rumors about

Austin Novosad?

The concerning thing for me is that he doesn't appear to be incredibly mobile when watching him on film. I was curious about his 40 time and apparently he ran a 4.87, which is only slightly faster than Jack Coan's 4.90 40 time.

Jack Coan’s 4.9 is faster than what he looked in games. A 4.87 is a very reasonable time for a QB

Coan’s issue wasn’t running in a straight line once he got going. It was short area and side to side. It’d imagine his 3 cone wasn’t pretty

I believe both of Novosad's folks are Aggies so it'd be kind of surprising to see him head elsewhere if they are truly pushing for him.

I mentioned him before, but Jaxon Smolik made the final Elite 11. He has basically no FBS offers, seemingly because he only played 4 games as a Junior in Iowa, but he only recently committed, has shown out at the Elite 11, and goes to a Catholic high school in the midwest. He might be the late riser for this class.

Only one way to find out right? I remember a time when we all assumed Carr was a Michigan lock and laughed at Rees targeting him.

Would also like to see at least 2 of these 3 get offered.

Feel like that kid Minchey goes to the same high school that gave us Golden Tate. In which case he’s a stone cold take.

In today's Dallas Morning News SportsDay section on 2023 recruiting, ND has 1 D/FW Area Top 100 (Bowen #4), 3 of State Top 100 (Bowen #9, James #19, Bell #20), and 5 of Top 100 National (Keeley #8, Peyton Bowen #51, Jagusah #55, Drayk Bowen # 75, and Vernon #99).

I don't think the Bell and Jagusah commitments are getting enough hype here. These are big time additions folks.
Agreed. We do get Jagusah's on occasion so we've grown a bit...complacent in that aspect. It's possible he's our next Q, so we should be more pumped.

Bell is guy we almost never get. Who was our last blazing CB, Troy Pride? And this young man would be nationally ranked. It was posted somewhere he ran a 10.4 or some ridiculous shit.

And he's a junior. Bell will challenge for nickel snaps immediately if he can hold the point of attack. Which means he can kick Mickey out for a starting CB spot next year which means we are building an elite secondary.

A bit hyperbolic but that's what summers are for....and it's independence day! The day we finally manned the aircraft and flew it straight into the giant alien ship that wanted to destroy the earth! Happy 4th!

What are the odds Marcus Freeman and ND wins the recruiting battle in year one vs Brian Kelly and LSU?
