Feels like the staff is holding onto this class for dear life. Bowen is 50/50 at best, who knows what’s going on with Limar, failed miserably at landing a potential Keely replacement, and the early prognosis for ND and the portal is very meh.
If Notre Dame loses Bowen and Limar and the other schools naturally add to their classes in the closing weeks, we’re probably looking at a class ranked 8-10. That’s not any different than a BK recruiting class. When Freeman was hired, better recruiting classes was one of his big selling points.
I sound like a grumpy old man. If they can hold onto everyone, then it should be able to hold in the top 5
It’s still very early into the portal season. Most of those who have entered have not committed elsewhere. Looking back at last year, Brandon Joseph didn't commit until a day before the Fiesta Bowl. Chris Smith came around in April or May. There is both plenty of time and options for the portal to payoff for ND this year. But, they can't delay on a QB.
Despite Bowen being 50/50, it's not due to a lack of effort. BK hardly ever tied himself to any recruit as much as Freeman has done so far. There are a few issues working against ND specifically with Bowen, but it's not because of the staff just letting him go.
Most BK recruiting classes finished in the early-mid teens, aside from the 2013 class and I believe one other.
2022 was technically BKs class, but the defensive pull was all Freeman, and it was a large part as to why that class finished just inside the Top 10. Even if ND finishes around the 8-10 rank due to a few possible more decommitments, it's still consistently better than what BK did on a year-to-year basis.
