A few of the other boards have had this guy pop-up.

Stanford commit with offers from all the PAC-12 schools. Tweeted about a Texas offer the other day, which might suggest wandering eyes from Stanford.

DE currently committed to NW but seems likely to open it up here soon. PSU seems to have an early advantage but several schools are trying to get involved.

Brian Dohn already CB'd him to PSU ahead of his OV this weekend.

Would love to replace Dylan's spot with an edge rusher. Definitely feels like a need when looking at our depth chart. Surprised they haven't pushed harder to replace the hole created by Keeley.

Armel Mukam doesn’t do it for you?!

Isnt there still a chance there? I mean that’s not a food thread yet is it?

When NW had a nice roll of commitments over the spring/summer, Mason was one of the guys that I noted (don't remember which thread) that I liked. He's well put together for a HS prospect, not the usual lanky lean you get with a lot of edge defenders. Likely shortens development time. But, he's got a quick burst off the ball. Big motor. Strong hands. Hopefully he doesn't end it at PSU this weekend and gives ND a shot.

For some reason my gif isn't working. It was a gif of a guy "walking backwards". Loy is pretty much saying he misspoke about having a surprise in a few weeks. Now says they are trying to simply "flip" committed dudes elsewhere.

Yeah just a bunch of stuff that I wouldn’t read much into. Sounds like it’ll be really boring, from now until ESP. I would assume that any 2023 recruiting news will be bad news. For a bunch of “dogs”, this staff didn’t close very well.

Could you expand on that last part a little?

How do you mean? Because of de-commitments and the hole at VYPER?

You could also argue against your point, that at this time before ESD, with NIL money getting thrown around, NDs class in totality is holding together fairly well. Especially since the 8-4 record was a bit below of expectations.

Feels like the staff is holding onto this class for dear life. Bowen is 50/50 at best, who knows what’s going on with Limar, failed miserably at landing a potential Keely replacement, and the early prognosis for ND and the portal is very meh.

If Notre Dame loses Bowen and Limar and the other schools naturally add to their classes in the closing weeks, we’re probably looking at a class ranked 8-10. That’s not any different than a BK recruiting class. When Freeman was hired, better recruiting classes was one of his big selling points.

I sound like a grumpy old man. If they can hold onto everyone, then it should be able to hold in the top 5

I agree Bowen is 50/50, Jayden Limar might jump, Micah Bell has an offer from Georgia and his brother goes there so who knows with that, I feel like the only confidence I have is with all the WR's and OL guys. Who knows who might come after our guys these next few weeks and offer them the bag tho.

Micah Bell said thanks but no thanks to Georgia

It’s still very early into the portal season. Most of those who have entered have not committed elsewhere. Looking back at last year, Brandon Joseph didn't commit until a day before the Fiesta Bowl. Chris Smith came around in April or May. There is both plenty of time and options for the portal to payoff for ND this year. But, they can't delay on a QB.

Despite Bowen being 50/50, it's not due to a lack of effort. BK hardly ever tied himself to any recruit as much as Freeman has done so far. There are a few issues working against ND specifically with Bowen, but it's not because of the staff just letting him go.

Most BK recruiting classes finished in the early-mid teens, aside from the 2013 class and I believe one other.

2022 was technically BKs class, but the defensive pull was all Freeman, and it was a large part as to why that class finished just inside the Top 10. Even if ND finishes around the 8-10 rank due to a few possible more decommitments, it's still consistently better than what BK did on a year-to-year basis.

ISR says we offered Mason Robinson. Usually if we offer a 3 star committed to another school late in the process we are, at the least, a serious player for the flip.

He does sound an awful lot like Mukam.

Mukam is a SDE who may very well end up moving inside to 3T when it's all said and done. He's not a Vyper.

We need a Vyper.
Traore is the Vyper. He is built almost exactly the same as Foskey was at that age, and is a substantially higher rated recruit. He's just under the radar because he's been low-drama and he's not from a recruiting hotbed.
That said, sure I'd love another, it gives you more options.

We need another Vyper. Traore is great, but we lack pass rushing depth. Hopefully Burnham will evolve into one.
