If they are below 85, they will award scholarships to guys in their last year so that they are off the books come spring. So it would be just a single year. Then switch those over to kids like Talich in the spring for next season.

I've seen Marty Auer speculated as a name to get a scholly. Scout team player of the year last year. He’s only a junior though so maybe not. Velotta or Ketterer would be the other candidates because as to Reaper’s point, it’s only a single year.

That was the first thing that stood out to me about Robinson. I couldn’t believe they would recruit someone that small! I guess seeing him on his visit made the staff realize how small he really is (and that he probably wouldn’t get big enough to play.)

I imagine they view Faison as potentially filling the role Robinson would have filled?

So per the safety interviews today and pointed out by Matt Freeman on ISD, there is a new position in the defense called the "Aztec" which is a hybrid safety/linebacker in third down packages. The intent is to make it tougher to read the defense between if it's a LB or DB. It is part of the "spear package".

Do other teams have cool names like Rover/Vyper/Sniper and now Aztec or is this more specific to ND defenses?

It's not meant to be cool, it's actually named after the Pontiac Aztek because no one can figure out what the hell it is.

It's not only ND.. to my knowledge Georgia's nickel is called STAR and they have a JACK and MONEY(LBs). I forgot but some schools call their edge guy a BUCK. I think Cincy had a SNIPER position. Diaco used DOG and CAT for his OLB while at ND. I think ND use to also call the SDE a Shark???
