Good hire.
For the past couple hiring cycles, a big talking point for Dan Quinn was that his coaching connections were going to net him an excellent coaching staff. Looks to be the case.
Good hire.
Not sure which of the parties I trust less…Cook County values the property at $192M
Chicago Bears values the property at $60M-$71M
That's a... sizable gap
The supply is in line to outweigh the demand, which could drive down the value of the position. It’s unlikely to be as dramatic as the running backs’ sinking market, but seven personnel executives and coaches around the NFL told The Athletic something has been developing, even if it only becomes a short-term trend.
“(It’s part of a) larger financial trend,” an executive said. “The market got too high for the position’s impact overall.”

Why are so many NFL safeties being cut? Will their market vanish like it did for RBs?

FIFYSafeties were more valuable when they could legally put opposing wr’s in a coma like Chuck Cecil, Ronnie Lott and Jack Tatum.
The struggles in Denver for Wilson are impossible to overlook. I think what Pittsburgh wants to do on offense will benefit Russ a lot. For just $1.2M, it’s impossible to not like the signing.
I just text some buddies and said "watch Fields go to the Vikings now."![]()

Baker's coming off a career high 4,044 yards passing and also a career high 28 TDs to 10 INTs. Won them a playoff game too. He's not elite, but that's a steal I think for a decent QB. I like to see him do well, I think Cleveland really screwed the pooch when they let him go while playing injured and then sold the farm for locker room cancer Watson. Can't root for the Browns while he's still their QB, he ain't it.3 years and 10 million for Baker haha
Baker then proceeded to get cut by the next two teams he played for he was so bad. He eventually grew up and TB made something of him, but acting like Cleveland was dumb to let him go is silly. He was never earning a contract extension in Cleveland. And idk where you've heard anything about Watson being a locker room cancer.Baker's coming off a career high 4,044 yards passing and also a career high 28 TDs to 10 INTs. Won them a playoff game too. Russell Wilson just feeling wanted should give him half a boost at worst, right? You're going from under the thumb of Sean Payton, a coach who absolutely hated you, to Mike Tomlin. The satisfying work environment goes up ten fold.
Steelers play at Denver in 2024. Must See TV.

Some national media seems to be shitting on Pittsburgh for signing Wilson. They fail, or choose not to, mention that Sam Darnold, Kirk Cousins, and Mitch freaking Trubisky all signed for much more money.
There’s quite literally zero risk involved for the Steelers.
I guess for me the investment is a combination of the finance risk with upside potential. I agree the financial risk is limited. But what is Russ going to provide that will allow Pittsburgh to compete with KC? I don't see this as a huge step forward at the QB position and the offense will still be challenged. Denver Wrs are better than what Pitts will have, so it's not like personnel wise it's a huge leap forward. I think it cements Pitts as a 9 or 10 win team. Some national media seems to be shitting on Pittsburgh for signing Wilson. Pittsburgh was a 10 win team last year with 13 total passing touchdowns from 3 quarterbacks. Meanwhile, Russell Wilson threw 26 touchdowns. 9/10 wins should be easily attainable, unless injuries hit.I guess for me the investment is a combination of the finance risk with upside potential. I agree that Darnold and Trubusky are worse contracts, but Atl has a fantastic roster that will flourish with Cousins. They are going to be really good next year IMO.
But if I were Pittsburgh, I would rather get Fields TBH. There is at least an upside scenario there were you could find a good, quality QB for the long haul if it worked out well. Best situation with Fields is far greater than best situation with Russ, even with the departing of some draft capital.
If he becomes a problem, then they can cut him. This is the beauty of a cheap, no risk contract.I think the larger concern with Wilson is that he seems like he's somewhat of a prick, and that the locker room turns on him pretty quickly.
I agree it's a good signing for Pittsburgh IF Wilson agrees to sacrifice for the good of the team. But if he wants to control how the offense plays (i.e., what happened in Seattle that ultimately led to his departure there), things could go south quickly.
Worth it for the potential upside if the cost is only $1.2M.
