Pyne isn’t great, but the offense isn’t as lackadaisical as against Marshall (it simply isn’t possible) and puts up points against a good Cal defense. 23-6 Irish.

I drink a little. I then ask the wife if she wants to go shopping. I get suckered into checking the score the whole time while shopping. I get texts from ND friends and ND haters that think they are my friends but are just husbands of my wife's friends that I completely ignore. Typical game day for me. I see ND lost by 1 and to me it never happened because I never saw it. I get on message boards pretending to have watched the game just repeating what everyone else says. Fire Tommy and fire Freeman. Then I head to politics boards and make fun of Joe Biden to make my day salvageable. Later in the evening I relax and watch real college football.

Would Jack even entertain the idea of firing Freeman in year 1? I highly doubt that. Even if we only won 3 games he'd have major lawsuits if he fired him in year 1. He will get longer than he should if he loses every game. If he goes 2-10, he still comes back for at least 1 more try. 6-6 and he gets 3 years minimum imo.

In 2012 I honestly thought ND could struggle with Navy,… so I predicted a loss. We dominated and I thought, ‘let’s keep it going’ and picked against us all season and we went unbeaten. It just became,…. Habit.

I know it shouldn't "matter," really but is Cal any good? I know they're not a particularly good team but sometimes they have some good football players.

The previews say they've a new transfer QB and some big WRs. Given our DBs have actually been the strength of our team this year so far that's not too scary. They were supposed to have a stout defense? But then their best DL got hurt. So maybe they won't eat Pyne alive? I dunno.

I figure if we're able to engineer a halfway-competent offense (asking a lot, I know) we win comfortably. But realistically it's probably like 27-20 Notre Dame. Which will be fine at this point.

Their defense is sort of good.

I think they have a good rush defense and mediocre pass defense. Which matches up well against ND's terrible offensive game plans where Rees will call four straight runs up the middle into the teeth of their strength on D.

Unless they give Pyne the green light to just sling it all over and he connects with some guys deep downfield, this game could be very low scoring with a ton of turnovers and punts.
