Could you imagine if this team ends the year 10-3 with 3 of their final 5 wins coming against Clemson, USC and Penn State? Lol
Would be great but I don't think we can get matched up with Penn State in cotton bowl. I believe opponent would have to be highest ranked G5. That's my understanding.

Yup, we need to root for the G5's to stumble/collapse, and a thumping of U$C to boot.

@IrishLion can you put in your weekly watch list some notes on which teams we should be watching and cheering for? I can't handle all the math and scenarios in here.

Just checked out The Athletic’s bowl projections here: CFB bowl projections: Where do Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama go after the weekend?

1) they have us in the Gator Bowl vs. Florida which would be interesting and kinda fun since we haven’t played them in a long while.
2) Penn St in the Cotton Bowl? They will end up with 0 Top 25 wins. Talk about failing upwards on the coat tails of OSU and Mich.

Traveling to Florida to play the Florida Gators in the Gator Bowl sounds funny. Make it happen.

This annual thread is about to turn into a big ole pumpkin, but we get one more week of enjoyment from it. We've had some early highs and some mid season lows but it looks like the bowl destination is likely coming down to one of three locations.

Show me CBS!

Give me 24/7!

Cheez-It Bowl

Projection: Notre Dame vs. Texas

You know Orlando bowl organizers would love to get this nationally-ranked matchup if possible. There's a chance Notre Dame slides into the New Year's Six if the Fighting Irish beat USC on the road next week, but for now, we're projecting Marcus Freeman's squad in Florida against the Longhorns. Texas obliterated Kansas to move to 7-4 on the season.

The Ocho!

San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl
Petco Park (San Diego)
8 p.m., Fox

Schlabach: Notre Dame vs. Utah

TaxSlayer Gator Bowl
TIAA Bank Field (Jacksonville, Florida)
3:30 p.m., ESPN and the ESPN App

Bonagura: Notre Dame vs. South Carolina

On the Shamrock post game pod I drowsily listened to last night it seemed like the Holiday Bowl was most likely at the moment, but much adventure remains (for another week or so)! So don't book those hotel rooms just yet.

Tbh I feel like the beat guys push the Holiday Bowl so much because they wanna go to San Diego and for no other reason.

Does Clemson going to the playoffs help open more NY6 chances?

I think we only get into a NY6 if one of Penn State, Bama, Tenn, or LSU lose this week. Or we could I guess jump PSU even without a loss. This is assuming we beat USC of course.

So what is it. There are the 2 playoff games.

Georgia vs Clemson
OSU vs TCU

Rose which is B1G vs PAC12 which would be Michigan vs USC

Cotton is At-Large vs At-Large. One of these two will be a G5.

Sugar which is SEC vs Big 12. Does the sugar bowl have to take the SEC CG loser? Or could they go Tennessee over 3 loss LSU?

Orange is ACC vs SEC/B1G/ND. This will be UNC in the ACC slot.

So it looks like for two at large bids it will be between

Alabama
LSU
Tennessee
Notre Dame

I could see us being picked over LSU. Both with three losses and LSU will have needed with a possible drubbing onto Georgia. This doesn’t matter one will be in the sugar bowl.

I think we need either Tennessee or Alabama to drop one.

Not to deprive anyone of their predictions.... the game vs. USC will be the tell-tale of where the Irish will/should land in a bowl game. I know that sounds convenient or, 'no shit' but - I'm looking at the Irish walking into Memorial with an attitude.

Well then let's go Vandy.

Isn't Penn State in the mix there somewhere as well? (Despite having zero quality wins, they are in front of us.)

Think the Holiday bowl is almost guaranteed, with the Clemson loss.

You win and the espn pundit sec sec class has the excuses at the ready. You lose to bk and you get memed to death and last thing we need after a mixed first year for Freeman. Just give me an easy win or a team that a loss is less cared about use the practices and get into the off season. My take is just my typical pussy ass risk minimization
