2019 Week Five Watch Party

Last week was a tough game and a disappointing loss for the Irish... and it was kind of a batshit crazy weekend in football in general, especially the final game of the week (UCLA was down by a million and found a way to win).

While we all hope the Irish avoid an emotional hangover, let's avoid a football-watching hangover ourselves and get back in the saddle (on the couch/at the bar).


THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

Navy @ Memphis (8:00 PM, ESPN)
- Navy has only played two games so far, but they were both impressive wins
- Memphis is 3-0 behind 3 very impressive offensive showings
- Does Navy shorten the game enough to win, or does Memphis put pressure on Navy to move more quickly than they like?


FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27

Duke @ Virginia Tech (7:00 PM, ESPN)
- Scout two future opponents
- Duke looks solid on defense, while VT has been underwhelming. Can the Hokies make a statement?

#12 Penn State @ Maryland (8:00 PM, FS1)
- Maryland started the year on fire, but laid a dud last week against Temple. Did they get caught looking ahead?
- The jury is out on Penn State, so they might use the Friday showcase to make a statement
- Could be a lot of points scored

#15 California vs Arizona State (10:30 PM, ESPN)
- Night cap for an ESPN double-header on a Friday night. Now we're getting into the thick of the schedule.
- Herm's squad might put the Pac12's playoff hopes on life support with an upset
- Outstanding frosh QB for ASU against one of the best secondaries in the country. Low-scoring game.

I was surprised by Navy's passing offense last night. They were passing the ball out of shotgun, even when the game was still within one score.

Their QB looked okay throwing the ball, too, until he got banged up later in the game.

I think ND should win that game easy, based on the plays our WR's should make against their secondary. But Perry at QB is a really good athlete and could cause problems getting around the edge, especially if ND has to respect a potential passing game.

Watched the first quartre of the Duke game. Duke looked dreadful. Got ready for bed, it’s 1am here, turned on the iPad and they’ve scored 14 points. Wtf? The lack of strength of both teams doesn’t look good for us.

Yeah, it almost looks like a typo. At halftime he'd already tied the single game TD record and was only 3 yards short of Bama's record for receiving yardage in an entire game. He got hot and Tua kept feeding it to him.

Uhhh OOOhh. Kirk knows that OSU finally got the speed and acceptability needed. But what happens when a team self reports some sideways teaching? They Lose a 900 game record, or at least their 2012 BCS championship drive.
What happens when the 24-hour news cycle lets women abuse happen by their coaches, introvertly handled by the wife of their coaches and finally by their head coaches? OSU!
