ISD speculated he is too small for LB and we are too crowded at WR. I agree and would pass.

I don't see why more kids don't take this route? Wouldn't there be a "last mover advantage" of sorts by waiting for all the other chips to fall? You get to see what the rest of the signing class looks like, where the better chance of playing time may be and who has schollies to burn after getting burnt at the end. If you are not heavily committed to a favorite, the risk of not making the cut somewhere is diminished.

Loy says ND is not longer recruiting him and the OV is obviously off.

Wonder if it's Morris or due to how we feel with other guys.

You're right, there is an advantage in that some very good schools open up late with a need when things don't go as they planned with other prospects. Still it comes down to pride. If you commit early, you are selecting a school that wants you before they have struck out with others. You wait till afterwards, you are choosing from what's left and possibly someone who didn't want you before.

If I had done like Morris is planning on doing I could have ended up at 1 of 4 B1G schools that recruited me but never offered before I committed. They all continued to stay in touch and two actually offered in writing after some all star games I was in... AND they struck out with who was higher on their boards.

Morris is going to be fine. He might not get the OSU, ND or MSU offer now but he has Pitt, Kentucky, IU, Illinois, Wisconsin and I'm sure he can dial for dollars with schools like WV, Rutgers, Temple, Marshall, UCinn, Purdue, half of the ACC schools and all the MAC's.

He'll be fine.

You don't stop recruiting your alternates because you feel you're in a good place. You stop because you know you got a higher prospect.

If what we are hearing is 100% true about Alloway and Morris, then I'd have to think at least 1 LB and 1 WR are in the bag.

I can see both sides of it. If we don't land another LB I think it is risky letting Morris walk basically. Even though 2 of our DB recruits could bulk up and play LB. I think it's smart though with the number of high recruits in next years class interested.

Wasn't it reported that he wanted to play WR? If so, maybe the staff told him his shot would only be at LB if he wanted to come to ND and he said no.

Won't be signing on signing day. Test scores are a real issue. May end up being JUCO. Obviously ND has moved on.

Not likely. It's been reported on twitter by many analysts that he was being recruited for LB by the Irish. If he wasn't cool with that, he wouldn't have been hyped about ND. The only thing I think that could have changed that is if a big program came in over the past few days and offered at WR. Had that have happened, we would have seen the tweets. Instead we get 'I have no Top 4 and I probably won't be signing on NSD' response.

Sorry, I thought he was a good student and already cleared? If not, then yeah... there could definitely be some other issues. lol

Who is reporting he has low test scores? Any links? If so, that's too bad and a black eye for Hoban. Ouch.

Not linking right this minute, but when he decommitted from MSU and picked up interest in us, I went to an MSU board and some of the people were talking academic issues then and there

the "i probably won't sign on signing day" made me think it's a NCAA clearing house type of challenge. IDK

Confirmed by Scout that it is his test scores and have may go JUCO. Not 100% yet. No longer being recruited by ND.

EDIT: tj at II has commented twice that it is also because ND likes it's board quite a bit "as of today"

It was an issue for ND, but not IU! lol

IU can take just about damn near anybody for football. Grades and test scores are generally a wash for the Hoosier program.

The info above made the kid sound like a non-qualifer. They even mentioned the J word, JUCO. Someone speculated that he and MSU went separate ways because of grades / scores. If you can't get into MSU, you can't get into IU.

perhaps IU just taking a chance on him, he could still not qualify and go JUCO

That's not entirely accurate. Because IU has been tradionally bad, they've let a few borderline kids in, in the past. Maybe they are taking a gamble here, but at the very least they're gonna do their best to get him in.

I've had friends down at IU in the past, and they said if you're an athlete, they'll do what they can to get you qualified........if it's a clearing house issue, then it won't happen. But.......this could also be a gamble for them, we'll just have to wait and see

Worth the gamble.

They did the same for nyle sykes last summer too and he's still on the roster so maybe they can pull some more magic here.

I've got a friend that't an IU grad. He doesn't follow FB recruiting. Yesterday he sent me the announcement on Morris and said Wilson's must be making inroads when he can beat ND head to head. I burst his bubble when he found out he got him by default. lol

Good pickup for the Hoosiers if he gets in.
