If Foskey joins... everything is addressed.

But if there was one 5* they could snag, that is committed to an under performing program with questions, who was offered and recruited by ND early, it would be Brandon Smith. He started off my #1 OA in the class. I'm not predicting it, expecting it, or even think it's a possibility. It's just seems like a scenario that has the table set for a flip.

The other kid I really liked and has a teammate committed is Laiatu Latu, Isaiah Rutherford's teammate. I'm surprised we didn't hear more about the staff trying to package the two.

5* per Kohl's

2* per 247 (3* per their Composite Rating)

UR per Rivals

UR per ESPN

Pretty sure Kohl's just uses 5* to denote a FBS caliber player while 247 ranks the top 15-20 as 3* while the rest are lower. Neither system is really great. I mostly just check out their rankings and scouting reports from the kicking camps.

Roster moves that will have negative impact on the team moving forward? Roster moves as in not as many 5th year seniors being asked back? An unexpected amount of early entrees to the draft?

People have stated that there will be roster moves made this off season, but I hope it isn't by guys that have eligibility left and are impact players (Kareem, Claypool, Boykin, Okwara).

Ridonkulus in the sheer volume. If they land Turner, 57% of the roster potential will be LB's.

Somethings got to give. The fact they are still recruiting LB's means things have already given and they're looking to force more giving.

Road sign says... Multiple twists & turns ahead.

To me that would be insane.

Okwara and Kareem just made the spotlight this year and they wouldn't be high picks. Another year would do them so much good.

Same for Claypool and Boykin. Book is back, Oline will be vastly improved with experience. They will be marquee WR's next year.

Hope the moves are from those that don't see the field.

Damn Crus, you should do love the stir the pot, lol. It's about Kevin Pyne. Has absolutely nothing to do with the 19' class.

Quenton Nelson (NFL Draft), Equanimeous St. Brown (NFL Draft), Josh Adams (NFL Draft), CJ Sanders (SMU), Pete Mokwuah (Wagner), Jonathon MacCollister (UCF), Elijah Taylor (EKU), Deon McIntosh (Dismissed), CJ Holmes (Dismissed), Kevin Stepherson (Dismissed), Brandon Tiassum (Dismissed), Daniel Cage (Retired), Jimmy Byrne (Retired), Jay Hayes (Georgia), Nick Watkins (Houston), Freddy Canteen (Tulane), David Adams (Retired). Last season ND lost 17 guys with remaining eligibility in the offseason. The season before that it was 15 guys before their eligibility was done. ND is at 94 scholarships for next season (including JD Bertrand) and that's 9 over the limit. Attrition happens to Notre Dame every offseason. Kids are gonna leave and the number leaving might not be 15-17 like the last two seasons, but kids are going to leave and that's okay. I'm glad the staff is out in front of this and over-signing to alleviate the need for some last minute 3*'s in January (not that Myron T-Amosa was a bad move).

Who is the list of guys we anticipate not being back or leaving and transferring?

QB - Brandon Wimbush
RB - Avery Davis (playing time fallen off, may get passed up)
WR - Javon McKinley (has barely played until last two weeks), Isaiah Robertson (injured? he played first 5 and then sat last 7), A freshman WR (there are 5 of them, someone won't like where their future lies)
TE - Alize Mack (insiders don't think he'll be back for another season)
OL - Trevor Ruhland (if the staff tells him he'll be a backup and to go seek a starting role somewhere else), Darnell Ewell (hasn't seen the field in 2 years, don't know when he will)
DL - Micah Dew-Treadway (Think he'll go see more than 5 snaps a game at another school), Kofi Wardlow (I have no idea what's going on with him, played 1 game)
LB - DJ Morgan (don't think he leaves cause he loves notre dame, but he doesn't even play special teams in year 3), Drew White (medical rumors, played a bunch and well in one game, not seen much of field since or before)
DB - Devin Studstill (hasn't played the last 7 games, think he's back if hasn't graduated yet), 6 freshman DB's (someone's gonna leave, sorry to break that news, maybe not this offseason, but some won't play)

Notre Dame seeing priority, uncommitted target on Thursday
ByTOM LOY 4 hours ago

The Notre Dame coaching staff remains out on the road this week, as the Fighting Irish want to add to their 2019 class and get ahead with...

I haven't seen anything official saying that he has in fact reclassified to 2019. 247 says he's still in 2020.

Jeremiah Criddell decommitted from Oregon and is likely headed to Oklahoma where he evidently feels he can be coached up to play elite defense.

Just read the OFD scholarship breakdown for next year . . .so far. What is crazy to me is the if ND flips Asa Turner, they will get 5 LBs this cycle and 2 of them may not go to the overall scholarship count. Crazy to think that ND can now convince a quality LB like Bertrand to walk on. Kiser is kind of nice luxury given the non footballs scholarship he may be getting.

Even if Kiser gets that Lilly scholarship, I'm pretty sure he'd count against the scholly counter. Lax knows more about this stuff than we do

What you think about Jonathan Jones with the linebackers we have coming in does he stay. I think graduation plays a role for guys like Ewell, Studstill, and Morgan.

Yea I think guys who are a semester or one season away from graduating will probably stay cause they are close at this time. Some guys have like 1 semester left and they could pull an Ashton White or Brandon Tiassum and do it without playing football to preserve eligibility. Idk how they maintain scholarships. Maybe you’ll see some medicals go out to guys who are close to graduating. Idk, I’m just spitballing. But the staff is getting more and more creative with finding ways to make sure they have 85 contributors at ND and not wasted space on their roster.

Is this in a previous post? Lax can you comment/educate?

https://www.ncaapublications.com/p-...ual-august-version-available-august-2018.aspx

For anyone who is interested in how confounding the rules are and is bored at work today, check out section 15. It sounds like he can receive the scholarship and be eligible, but it doesn't really make as clear (at least to me) if he were to be a counter. There are also some interesting rules regarding early enrollees and summer participation that I didn't know before.

Lax's post from the Bertrand thread where Kiser was being discussed.

NCAA rules for scholarship counters actually work differently than you're describing for sports like football. Anyone who receives any sort of scholarship (from outside sources or the school itself) is a counter as long as they are participating in a "head count" sport like football. The only allowable source of aid where someone isn't a counter is strictly need based. That is, a walk-on can receive the normal need based scholarship money from a school that any normal student would get and not be a counter.

The reason this is the case is that you could extremely easily set up scholarships to get around the 85 rules and funnel tuition money to additional players. While some would be legit, many others would be a farce.

Good points. Thanks Lax.

Hypothetical:

Preferred Walk On at Notre Dame is Given a $30,000 needs based scholarship. He also applies for and gets and outside scholarship for $2,500 that is not need based. If he ever plays a down at ND, does he become a counter?

In general, if they're accepting any money that isn't "need based" they're a counter.

There are some crazy carve outs... for example, the "Haudenosaunee Promise" at Syracuse is a thing where they give free tuition to any Native American member of the tribe. Not a big impact for football, but for lacrosse it effectively allows them to go way over the scholarship limit with Native Americans they recruit. And it's allowable because of the way it's written and the way it applies to all Native Americans of a specific group.

I believe there's also something where if you're a very high achieving student that meets certain criteria you can take some academic-based scholarship money coming into your first year of college. But I haven't looked at the rules in about a decade.
