Im good with it.. Still laugh that Michigan is ranked in the top 10, and favorites to beat the Irish and OSU.

USC doesn't even make the "Others receiving votes" list.

That's a mistake, IMO. Their offense will be very underrated and a problem for us on October 12th.

I'll say though, IDK anything about their defense.

Pretty sure it says they received 47... right in between TCU and Utah State in the second row

Florida, Michigan and LSU are all too high for me,... Florida especially will be able to hide behind a schedule with like three legit losable games all year tho so whatever...

I think Florida is going to be good. They may lose 3 games, but those are tough games. I wouldn't want to play them, personally. I think Dan Mullen is a really good coach.

IMO SCum could start out 2-3 before heading out to ND (week)
W- Fresno St(1) and @BYU (3)
L-Standford (2), Utah(4), @Wash(5)

Their back end of the schedule is better, but those first 6 games are gonna be tough.

Joe LOVES to bring scUM (Michigan fans) into ND stadium. Not surprising he's now trying to shift the 'scUM' title away from Michigan.

Not sure he's even a ND fan. Fraud.

Me neither. They got roasted the final two weeks. It's all predicated on a new OC and Patterson really.

He should improve but idk if he's good enough to shoulder the load for a great season. At least as great as the pundits are predicting.

I'd be ecstatic for scUM to come in overrated again just to "blow it" again.

LSU is also overrated IMO.

Really not feeling all the Michigan love. Their offense may be better than last year but their defense will almost certainly be worse. Seems like a wash.

I’ve got to think it’s because their toughest games are mostly at home this year when they were on the road last year, which seems a silly way to rank a football team.

But if they can beat Wisconsin and Penn State, they may well be in the top five when we play them, which would be fine.

With a new OC and offense it's going to take a while to work out the kinks. They may still be feeling their way around when we play them.

This is where I'm at. I'm not upset being at #9, but to have those three teams ranked ahead of us? All three teams had 3 losses last season, and each had at least one blowout to a team they shouldn't have lost to (Florida was destroyed by Missouri, LSU blew it in the 7 OT game against A&M, and Michigan was blown out by both OSU and Florida).

This isn't always the case. There's always a lot of talk in college football when a team changes offense/defense and there's a perception that it takes them time to adjust. In many cases that team ends up having a leg up on the competition though because there's no previous game film to scout them, especially early in the season. We saw when Weis came in the offense was clicking on day 1, and gradually teams began to scheme against us better and better as the season went on and as Weis' time in South Bend drew to a close. Similarly when Elko came in our defense played very well early, and we gave up more points as the season went on. You can see it in other programs too, like how Urban Meyer was able to step into his Florida and tOSU jobs and be successful early on despite adjusting the team to a very different scheme.

There are certainly exceptions, but I think it's very much a common misconception that teams struggle to find footing after switching schemes. You have to remember when a team has faced the same Pro style offense run by a coordinator year after year, it can be more difficult for that opposing team to game plan when a new coach comes in and switches to say...a Spread offense. There's just a lack of game film and situational experience facing that coordinator, so you have less data and analysis to work with.

BVG's greatest defensive coaching performance at ND was in his second game.

BVG's greatest defensive coaching performance at ND was in his second game.

That's another classic example. BVG looked like a world beater in the beginning, and it led to destruction as opposing teams saw what he was doing and found ways to attack.

Not buying Florida. They are losing a lot from their very stout defense, particularly Jachai Polite.

Michigan is a definite sell. Will they be better offensively? Possibly. But that is negated by losing Devin Bush, Rashan Gary, Chase Winovich, David Long and Tyree Kinnel. Those were their 5 most productive defensive players. That's like if ND were to have lost Coney and Love on top of losing Kareem, Okwara and Elliott on top of that. I think many on here would be sh*tting a brick going into this year.

But they're Michigan, the most confident fan base in college football. They don't shit bricks, so much as get hit in the mouth with them by good teams.

Stewart Mandel, in his over/underrated teams piece today in The Athletic, noted that Michigan has never played in the Big 10 championship game. Which is crazy, especially when they act like the Rose Bowl is their birthright.

I'm not fond of Michigan...or their fans. I don't understand how they think Michigan will be better this year after losing all their studs on defense

Maybe he'll prove me wrong next year, but every time I hear an analyst talking about how Patterson is going to flourish in the spread, I think of seeing him barely being able to stand up by the 4th quarter or our game last year.
