Hard to believe completion rate was 80% because with the sacks and shorty passes it felt like 60%. O line looked like crap today because Book held the ball too long a la BW. Book Finally three a few downfield. Don’t know if he held the ball on other occasions but they need to throw long more often. The first int should have got his ass handed to him. Amateur play coupled with his fumble. I can’t forgive Book for that chicken Schitt slide that caused the missed first down conversion. He needed to dive for that one. If it was the first half then OK but not in that situation. Defense saved his butt not to mention saved Polian’s coaching job. It’s Booker all over again. He needs to snag a five star or can him.

Enough with Fertita he blew it at least twice.....get a haircut.

Is it me or is Daelin Hayes turning into just another guy on the Dline? Okwara and Kareem have outshined the 5 Star by miles.

D. Hayes is actually playing well. Like with Book, it’s about the entirety of the game. Very good against the run. A solid number of QB Hurries. Just isn’t getting home quite yet. We are so much better when Hayes is on the depth chart, it even close.

Did Hayes play? Sorry if this has been asked and answered elsewhere.

Four top ten teams lost today. We didn't. That's the most important thing.

But, yeah, I worry we've got a lot of games like this ahead. Tough opponents who can mess with us, maybe just enough to win.

The O Line just needs to play better, especially in the running game.

Book hopefully learned some lessons about staying firm in the pocket. He looked like Wimbush out there at times today, pulling it down and running around. Settled down the last couple of possessions and made some nice throws.

Our defense is excellent. I love it. We do need Troy Pride back though because they sure picked on Donte Vaughn.

OL flat out sucked today's! The special teams was a dumpster fire, starting with the idiotic offsides in the 1st qtr. (Fertita?)! Geesh!

That’s my point. Was hard to notice since he didn’t seem to be very relevant. Always seems to be Okwara and Kareem but Daelin has been getting all the love and hype for 2 years Plus.

No they had a nice drive to score their first TD.

And Penn state lost too. Not a bad day for you!

They only scored their first TD because of an offsides penalty on our punt coverage unit, so yeah both TD's were the result of very sloppy ST play.

Yeah that was part of it but they still drove the ball a quarter mile to score.

I actually got frustrated watching and left around half with the wife to get some Costco shopping done while it might be quiet (we live less than 10 miles from ND stadium). I didn't even watch the DVR of the second half. Anyway, 38-80 rushing is not great by any means, and Book channeled his inner Wimbush too many times and ran. That said, after seeing all the other top 10 upsets....perspective. 7-0, somewhat healthy, bye week. I have no illusions of winning the NC, but win and move on.

Costco can be fun. But you need more faith. Not NC faith, but final four faith.

Final 4 would be good. I fear another 2012 undefeated season followed by a NC beatdown. Best hope is Bama get knocked off, because I think ND would have at least a chance against anyone else. 7-0 is all that matters right now.

Same here..
Personally hoping ND, OSU, and Clemson are undefeated and UCF (currently at 10, gonna be 7 or 8) crashes the party after Bama and UGA lose late... The next year you can be damn sure 8 game playoff is the hottest hashtag...

Ugly game. Oline, vaughn and book all played bad at times. Defense kept them in it. Fertitta alone was responsible for all their points.

These games happen. A W is a W.

People like mercy need to turn in their posting card.

To be fair I doubt anyone predicted Okwara to become this effective so suddenly. Hayes has improved just not like Kareem and Okwara.

1. Book was baaaad in the first half and most of the third quarter. Once he and staff adjusted, and he started getting the ball out quick against pressure (like he was doing previously), the offense turned on. Good learning experience, good chunk of film to self-scout a crappy performance, and yet still got a win out of it.

2. Boykin is a man. Claypool is getting there. It was encouraging to see Book making accurate throws to them down the field in the fourth... they need those chances. They’ll make tough catches with their size, or draw penalties. Difference-making stuff. Also, very excited about the play of future Patriots slot receiver and Tom Brady’s impending favorite target, Chris Finke.

3. Nicco Fertitta is useless.

4. Polian and BK need to sit down and figure some shit out. Is Polian’s Left Coast recruiting acumen worth so many fuck ups?

5. Credit where it’s due, Polian had a return unit full of freshmen ready for Pitt’s fake, and they all did their job. More of that, less of the other stuff, please.

6. How nice is it to have an elite defense to lean on??? Coney looked like ass on Pitt’s first drive, otherwise the defense would’ve pitched a shutout. Shoutout to Okwara for being a game wrecker. Shoutout to Bracy and Griffith for being the future of an elite pass defense unit. Shoutout to Elliott for continuing to improve and bringing the swag.

7. 7-0 headed into a bye, with lots of self-scouting to learn from and cover up weaknesses. Feelin’ good.

This was the kind of game that I was afraid that was going to happen. After seeing 3 undefeated teams go down yesterday, I'm not that mad/disappointed about it. We got the W and, at the end of the day, that is what matters most.

Good:
-The freshmen on defense. They continue to impress me every week. It seems like every Saturday a different freshman on defense flashes and shows a bright future. Yesterday, it was Tarik Bracy. If the staff wants to put Bracy over Vaughn, I'm all for it.

-The defense in general. Other than the first drive, which was aided by a ST penalty, this defense didn't really give up anything. I would've liked to see more sacks though.

-The receivers seem to play better and with more confidence with Book in the game. I know that the offense had issues moving the ball yesterday, but I thought the receivers made big time catches in clutch situations last night.

Bad:
-The obvious one is the special teams. Can we stop kicking the ball to the 5 yard line to try and stop the returner from getting to the 25? I get the logic of why they try to do it, but is tackling the returner at the 22 yard line really worth the risk of a kick return touchdown? And if Doerer just can't kick it that far, then take his scholarship away because that unacceptable. There are multiple high school kickers in the South Bend area that can kick it into the end zone.

-I thought, overall, Book took a step back yesterday. But thats okay. I'm not going to act like I know what Pitt did or showed that confused Book, but kudos to them on a good game plan. On the bright side, he had a good 4th quarter and had a beautiful deep ball to Boykin.

-The refs. I hate complaining about officiating, I think its petty. But they missed 2 obvious holds on Pitt's opening drive that resulted in a touchdown. Hinish was getting hooked and Kareem was getting held badly. And don't even get me started on Hayes' offsides. Apparently they didn't see the LT leaning backwards. Moral of the story, ACC refs suck ass.

Good day for ND Football. Irish win and move in the top 4.
Michigan wins. USC wins. VT wins. Stanford had a bye to prevent them losing there 3rd in a row.

My point is they wouldn't have had a chance to put together a long drive if not for the penalty. The long drive really started after the penalty. Pretty good defense prior to that.
