Joe Thomas was just on Golic and Wingo and flat out said he'd sign Cousins and draft Barkley and the top defensive player left at four (Chubb or Fitzpatrick obviously)

My Man.

if i'm them I go barkley at #1 (only b/c he wont be there at #4)...and take best qb avail of rosen/allen/darnold at #4.
but they'll figure out a way to screw it up...

They need:

OT
QB
DBs
RB

I think they want and can get a QB in FA... Have DK be the backup and learn for a couple years. I THINK they may go OT and DB/DL in the first four picks... and then address RB later in the draft,... I really do. It wouldn't be as sexy but it may work.

I think that's the best result for the Browns. Then grab the best available OL and DL/DB depending on if they get Chubb or Fitzpatrick.

If they don't sign Cousins, which I wouldn't be confident in that, then I think it gets tricky.

Teams like the Broncos and Jets are going to try to jump in and grab Darnold/Rosen at 3 (depending on who's left) and Indy will look to move back and still grab someone like Chubb. So if the Browns draft Barkley #1 overall, there may not be a franchise QB left at #4 (I don't see Mayfield, Jackson, or Allen being franchise QBs).

In this case, I'd be putting a LOT of smoke out there about grabbing Allen at #4. Get the Broncos or Jets to overpay to grab him (Elway will probably take the bait), drop back a couple of picks and grab Fitzpatrick still and add another pick in round 2 or something.

What do you think, ACamp?

If that is what they want, then they better get the QB in place before the draft AND trade down out of #1. Too many teams need a QB to waste it on someone that will most likely be there at 4.

There are a lot of RBs in the second round, albeit lesser pass catchers than Barkley.

Nick Chubb
Derrius Guice
Sony Michel
Ronald Jones
Kerryon Johnson

A haul of:

1a.) Cousins -FA 1b.) Smith trade 2.) another FA Qb that can be considered an upgrade but certainly not 'sexy'

Draft
Conor Williams-1st overall (Hell this might even end up as Mcglinchey depending on where they project him playing and where things sit after FA and the combine,... my gut tells me this is something Dorsey would prefer doing)
Fitzpatrick-4th overall
Michel- 33 overall

I think something like that could be what we ultimately end up seeing,... Barkley at 1 is super sexy but somewhat of a luxury pick that high.

I think Cousins is a very real possibility, definitely not fantasy. The Browns are a good mix of, money to make it happen, the want to make it happen and a young, talented, roster that can actually get pretty good pretty fast if done right. I know there are more desirable teams that MAY be in the mix, but idk if they are willing/able to spend like that.

I don't watch much of the NFL so I'm not sure how well his game will translate but Guice impressed me every time I watched him, especially against ND. He NEVER stops moving his legs.

none of these guys are every down backs though. i'd take barkley high for sure, no need to overthink things here.

Rumors/reports are coming out that currently the Browns front office would prefer the, "trade for Alex Smith and look elsewhere with picks 1 and 4 option." From what is coming out it sounds like if the Browns go this route they'd still draft a QB at some point but it would have to be a perceived home run to go in the first four.

Also saw some reports/tweets that NFL front offices seem to be far less hyped about Barkley than the media and fans are.

If that's the case then I'd go best OT and Defender or both defenders (Chubb and Fitz...wow).

This guy must be a major dumbass.

Connor Williams and Orlando Brown at #2 and #4. Horseshit.

Mayfield drafted before Josh Rosen and he doesn't have the Brown making that head scratching move? Horseshit.

Q Nelson falling to #12. Not a chance in hell.

The Land of 10 mock drafts have been generally atrocious.

I could see Connor Williams at 2 if the Giants don't go with a QB, but you also forgot the weirdest part: apparently Big Mike is now a Guard

No way should they draft any OT in the top 4 this year. There isn't an OT that should sniff the top 10. If they don't need to grab a franchise QB, then they better walk away with some combination of Bradley Chubb, Saquon Barkley, and Minkah Fitzpatrick. Those are high floor, potentially elite, picks which immediately improve their team.

Scroll down past Lands - he also has Kiper's and CBC mocks.

Why would the Giants not go with a QB? And if they don't, the Jets or Broncos will sell their souls for Rosen. He's not getting past #2 (which is tough to show in a mock draft I suppose).

Seems like there are a lot of QBs who may go high. What do you think of the Browns trading down and stockpiling picks? That’s what I would do, unless there was a homerun QB available (Manning, Luck, etc...)

Don't fret. I think Kiper is out of his skull bone with Allen #1. He'll get drafted in the top 10 out of sheer stupidity to get the next Carson Wentz.

I'm kind of ready for them to just use their draft capital for something other than acquiring more draft capital. At some point you have to cash all this in.

The best landing spot for Alex Smith, if KC were to trade him, is Minnesota. All three of their QBs are not on contract for 2018. Not saying that KC could not find partners that may offer more. The Vikings have $53 million in cap space and five picks in the 2018 draft. They have room to sign FAs for any of their other needs - OG, DT, CB. Draft Billy Price with their 1st round pick. Case Keenum becomes a free agent.

Trade for Smith, sign Bell, draft Chubb and Fitzpatrick and move up to get Mcglinchey... one year from today we are listening to the Browns at media day.

Easy.

I would look at Gice or Michel in the 2nd round and go QB/Defender or two Defenders with the Browns first two picks. I really don’t think there is that much drop from Barkley to those two.

What are the Browns biggest needs, besides QB?

honestly, just off the top of my head:

RB, DB(Safety and CB), SLB, OT, DT, prob in that order... They haven't been able to figure out RT for a number of years now and it's well past the time to figure that out,... Drango may grow but I've seen enough of Coleman, at least for the time being. If Thomas retires slide OT up to the top... either way they'll need at least one tackle sooner than later.

Sign Sammie Watkins and Dontari Poe. Best WR or CB in second.

I agree. Pretty convinced of that myself. I guess we'll see but with guys like Minkah and Chubb on the board, I'd hard pass on Barkley for those two.
