I agree. Pretty convinced of that myself. I guess we'll see but with guys like Minkah and Chubb on the board, I'd hard pass on Barkley for those two.

It definitely sounds like a lot of front offices agree with this. We will see... things will obviously become clearer post-combine.

honestly, just off the top of my head:

RB, DB(Safety and CB), SLB, OT, DT, prob in that order... They haven't been able to figure out RT for a number of years now and it's well past the time to figure that out,... Drango may grow but I've seen enough of Coleman, at least for the time being. If Thomas retires slide OT up to the top... either way they'll need at least one tackle sooner than later.

Just to add to this, I know they drafted a couple tackles just a couple years ago but yeah, they've also drafted a QB how many flippin times in the last ten years and we're still talking about that too... oh, and I freaking hate all of you.

I guess that's why I'd lean towards trading the 1st pick and hope someone overpays. Bring in a bunch of early round talent and hope you hit on a good percentage of them.

I'm hoping against hope that they get Cousins and go Barkley and Fitzpatrick at one and four. Then go OT, DT, and WR with their three 2nd rounders. In that order. We need some damn play makers here in Cleveland!

I'd consider a WR high in the second round if not addressed in FA. Top two WRs with only 27 receptions each.

Mock Drafts

Mock Drafts

In a quick review of more than five Mock Drafts of the first round draft by positions are:

QBs - 4-6
RBs - 1, possibly 2
OTs - 2-4 (one had 5)
Int OL (G/C) - 2
WRs - 2-3 (one had 4)
TEs - 0-1

Edge - 4-5
CBs - 4-6 (I classified Fitzpatrick here)
LBs - 3
Int DLs - 3-4 (one had 5)
Ss - 1-2

If you are sitting at early second round to address your needs, you probably have to expect that on average 4-5 QBs, 3-4 OTs, 4 Edge, and 5 CBs will be gone. The CB class is deep as are DTs (IDL) and RBs. Many are ranking 4-5 OTs as potential first rounders with a dropoff after that.

Buffalo is the only other team than Cleveland with two first rounders, but at 20&21. If they can resign Gaines (CB) and solidify their QB situation with a FA (Cousins, Smith, etc), they can address their defense - DT, LB - in the first round. Both Buffalo and Cleveland need a ROT and to address the QB situations.

If Buffalo cannot fill some of those needs via FA, they may be forced to draft players at similar needed positions than Cleveland who has 33 and 35 picks. Cleveland does have the draft capital to move up ahead of 20 to grab an OT.

He's my honest prediction as of 1/30/18:

The Browns starting QB next season will be Teddy Bridewater.

I've considered Allen to be the best pure passer for over a year, now. Yeah, he plays with no talent in a shitty conference, but look at the guy's tape. I liked Rosen, but I think he's going to be a head case. Mayfield is going to be exposed, big time. He's out of the league, in two to three years.

I wasn't impressed with S. Barkley, as he could really disappear from a game. He had some flashy highlights, but I think Love and Michel bring just as much every-down skill. Chubb will get worn down by NFL D. The best back in this group may turn out to be Guise.

Alex Smith to the Redskins...

Did I tell you all how much I hate you?

Redskins get the NFL's QB with the highest passer rating this year (minimum 5 games) who had a better TD/Int ratio than any other QB with more than 300 passing attempts. Smith had his best year - 4,000 passing yards, 26 TDs, 5 Ints, and a 67.5% completion rate behind only Brees (72%) and Keenum (67.6%). Washington's passing game generated 21.4 pts/gm last year. (KC generated 25.9 pts/gm). Washington and Alex Smith, who has one year left on his current contract, have reportedly reached agreement on a four year extension worth $94 million ($71 million in guaranteed money).

Washington could draft either a top WR or ILB with their first round pick (#13).

The Chiefs fill their CB need, acquiring Kendall Fuller in the trade, and a 2018 third round draft pick. Fuller was graded by PFF as the second highest slot CB this year. Fuller is 22. The Chiefs also save $17 million in cap space for Free Agency. Smith will be missed in KC for all his successes. Patrick Mahomes, come on down.

Chiefs had multiple teams showing interest in Alex Smith before trade

Too bad Allen can't hit the broad side of a barn.

Rosen will be fine. He's kind of an asshole because he's too smart for his own good. Not an uncommon trait in high end QB's (Rodgers, Brady, Rivers).

I think Barkley will be a good NFL back, but I think he's a very different RB than workhorse backs like Zeke or Fournette. People expecting that type of runner will be disappointed.

WTF is this Rosen is an asshole stuff coming from? I don't get it.

It's been whispered for a while, then last week or so someone talked to a number of different teams and the majority stance was he may be uncoachble and is seen as a major "me" guy... who knows...

This opens the door for a long term, lucrative contract for Kirk Cousins in Cleveland.

I honestly think it makes it harder... many of the "Cousins to Cleveland" scenarios didn't have Washington getting Smith and either Smith or Cousins landing in Cleveland. Now one of the QB options is off the board without any of the previously believed team options being checked off. If I had to guess right now I'd say Cousins goes to the Jets or some such, which I would think is a bad move I honestly think (no homer) Cleveland's ceiling, even in the near future, is higher than NYJ but so it is.

Seeing whispers that the deal KC wanted from us was Kirksey or Collins and a third rounder for Smith AND it sounds like Smith wouldn't want to sign long term... so yeah, that's why he's not a Brown this morning. Don't blame our front office one bit for passing on that.

This article lists the Browns as 1 of the top possible destination. I love the way they start it... "Seriously, don't laugh"

Addressed in link provided above "Chiefs had multiple...." Seems KC felt Smith earned a say in this. Doesn't sound like Cleveland was ever a player. KC got their corner.

Kendall Fuller film review: How could the Redskins trade this guy?
Slot CB clearly an area of need for the Chiefs. Opposing WRs saw 132 targets (most) and totaled 1,092 yards (3rd-most) in the slot against the Chiefs. Kendall Fuller was PFF's No. 6 overall CB and our No. 2-graded slot CB. https://twitter.com/FieldYates/status/958549843244408833

By getting a third rounder, KC effectively only gave up their first round pick in this year's draft to move up the 17 spots to draft Mahomes - and got Fuller, a proven CB talent, vs a future first round talent even if they got Washington's first rounder this year. KC was $8 m over the cap and is now $8 m under.

Cleveland:

https://247sports.com/Bolt/Browns-sign-Devon-Cajuste-Denzel-Rice-Christian-Schneider-114457832

The Cleveland Browns announced the following in a press release:

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns have signed TE Devon Cajuste, DB Denzel Rice and OL Christian Schneider.

Cajuste is 6-3, 242 pounds and officially in his first NFL season out of Stanford. Originally signed by San Francisco as an undrafted free agent in 2016, Cajuste spent most of his rookie season on Green Bay’s practice squad. Collegiately, he appeared in 53 games as a wide receiver and totaled 91 receptions for 1,596 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is a native of Seaford, N.Y.

Rice is 5-11, 185 pounds and officially in his second NFL season out of Coastal Carolina. Originally signed by Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent in 2015, Rice has appeared in seven career games and logged nine tackles. He appeared in four games with Philadelphia in 2015 and three with Houston in 2016. Last season, he spent time on Indianapolis’ practice squad. He is a native of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Schneider is 6-5, 304 pounds and officially in his first NFL season out of UC-Davis. He participated in rookie minicamp with the Packers last season. Schneider was a four-year starter at right tackle for the Aggies. He is a native of Glendora, Calif.

Let's say Cousins signs with Buffalo, who have two first round picks (20&21). (Cousins has said he would sacrifice money to play for a contender.) Those could be used to fill other needs. Resigning Gaines (FA) fills their CB need possibility. Draft a LB and a DT. Or is Cousins thinking Jacksonville or Minnesota?

Rumors are Indy is looking to trade down. Denver(5), and the Jets(6) are possibilities. Others would be too expensive using the Trade Chart. If either moves up to take a QB, QBs could go 1,2, and 3 and possibly 5. Indy could end up choosing between Q, Chubb, Barkley or best available DB with an additional pick in later rounds.

I don't think this is the case at all... it sounds like Cleveland could have got him if they had:

A.) agreed to give up Kirksey

and

B.) Agreed to the 94 million over 4 years that Smith ultimately got from Washington

Sounds like we were not willing to do either, but that he easily could be a Brown right now had we been willing.

Honestly, if true, the more I think on it the more I'm okay with it.
