Amazing. In the seat in southern New Mexico, the Democratic candidate, Xochiti Torres Small, won after 8,000 ballots that were not counted or posted on election night were entered into the totals. About 6400 of those 8000 votes went to Torres Small. Almost 200,000 people voted with lines of voters waiting past poll closing time to cast their vote in the most populous part of the district, Las Cruces, which is also a college town. It's not clear if those made up much of the votes that had not yet been counted. There were also absentee and provisional ballots that needed counting. The Rep candidate, Yvette Harrell, had declared victory the night before. In reviewing all those 8,000 votes prior to the final count, five representatives from each campaign also participated. The 2nd District has been represented by Republicans since NM went to three districts in 1983 except for two years.

In the 4th District of Utah, about 200,000 votes have been counted and the race between Ben McAdams and Mia Love is too close to call with Love behind by about 5,000 votes. Except for the President and the leader of her Party, who said she lost - “Mia Love gave me no love and she lost. Too bad. Sorry about that, Mia.” In reference to Love and also to Rep Barbara Comstock (R, Va) who lost, Trump said: “They did very poorly and I’m not sure I should be happy or sad. But I feel just fine about it.”
In Utah County, a Love stronghold, 88,000 votes have yet to be counted. In Salt Lake County, roughly 116,000 votes need to be counted. 16,000 provisional ballots have yet to be counted. They have not specified how much of those votes are from 4th District. Some updates will be made on Friday. It is estimated that this may take two weeks to be official.
Love has voted with Trump 95.7% of the time, but did not invite him to speak in her behalf.
Trump's approval/disapproval rating has changed by 29 pts in the 4th District since his inauguration where now more 4th District voters disapprove of him than approve. Instead Love choose to campaign with Mitt Romney, Utah's new Senator. Of interest, Love's parents escaped from Haiti when her father was threatened by the Tonton Macout, entering on a tourist visa. Her birth in Brooklyn enabled her parents to gain a residency permit (a green card). Should Love overcome initial results and win re-election when all the votes are counted, the relationship with the President who mocked her and "feels just fine" about her "loss" may be a tad bit rocky. The Fat Lady hasn't sang on this one yet, though one New Yorker has.
