I think the BS one loss UM narrative got started by Desmond Howard last week on college football live. David Pollack thought he was an idiot for thinking it and said why do we even play the games then? It looks like beating any big 10 team this year has little to no cachet Sam even with most of the ACC and PAC 10. Just keep winning and it’s a done deal. Don’t like our chances against a Clemson or a Bama. This D looks like we are living on borrowed time. Seniors need to step up the leadership and play angry.

For years I have been wanting Michigan to beat Ohio State. I have been routing for UM to keep winning to make our SOS look better and now it has backfired because of the Big 10lovers Des and Herbie who have both had their heads up their asses when it comes to picking ND this year. Who wants to bet that they both pick Cuse next week?

IIRC, the last standings had UGA closer to UM than UM closer to ND in the rankings. So they're closer to 5th than 3rd. Control what we can, just win.

Watch out for Indiana next week. Would be nice but I would rather play UM again than any other team in the top 10.

On my phone so I can link it, but Herbie tipped his cap to Wimbush in Twitter this morning.

The "Michigan is playing better now" narrative has never made sense to me. Outside of Pitt (which is where this narrative really started to gain traction) it's not like we've been lucky or slipping by teams. Even NW, we covered the spread, beat them by double digits on the road, and NW is pretty good. Since the UM game we smoked WF, Stanford, VT, Navy, and FSU. WF, Navy, and VT were all road games.

The OLine improvement can be partly attributed to the team getting the guards right (in two different ways.) Banks has been a joyful addition. We needed a mauler there, even more than a Bars-type technician (though Bars was very good obviously.)

The "other" guard is the return (to health) of Big Tommy. If you can re-watch the game, note who is semi-regularly pancaking players and collapsing walls (and even successfully pulling.) The Big Guy is apparently back.

Banks and Kraemer seem to set a wall of power around Mustipher and unless a delayed blitz comes through the middle (which no back picks up) the pocket stays safe in the middle.

Because Eichenberg and Hainsey still have troubles with faster rushers, it's "inside" we should go both as to running and stepping up in the pocket. Book's great at the latter, but Brandon still has trouble with hands in the passing lanes. Great thanks to Brandon but we still need Book's wild talent savvy to make the whole thing run smoothly.

great post OMM.
i must admit i thought the OL would look worse with BW at the helm, but they were pretty solid. agree that Book makes things easier/smoother, but i think the improvement shown with a more challenging QB makes it even sweeter.

any thoughts on next week's ND OL vs Cuse?

Tirico, in particular, is a straight shooter. Flutie grudgingly agreed, though he followed up by saying if we lose a game, "it's over." (which, depending on the loss, it shouldn't be)

But, seriously, is anyone outside of total Michigan fanbois actually saying they should be ranked ahead of us right now? It is a nonsensical argument.
Yes, they're playing better. But so are we. It's not like they're rolling and we're eeking out wins here.
And who has Michigan beaten, exactly? Penn State? Whoopty-fucking-do.
And we beat them, and it wasn't even really seven points close.
And we're undefeated, and they're not.

So I'm glad that Mike Tirico can state the obvious. But I'm holding my praise on that other one.

I think this weeks performance quieted the boob birds and meatchickens. we did exactly what we needed to do, which was to beat FSU by ~30. scUM crushed Rutgers, but it's Rutgers. ND crushed a very down FSU. Both teams did what they needed to do so the "scUM over ND" narrative will go a bit dormant.

It could quickly gain steam again if scUM crushes IU and we struggle vs Cuse. If we beat Cuse by 20+, we chop another leg off the narrative and put it to bed for another week. If we beat both Cuse and USC by 20+, nobody talks shit. If we struggle and scUM goes on to beat OSU and NW again, we'll be swarmed by narrative again. ebb and flow, rinse repeat. But we control it.

Watch out for Indiana next week. Would be nice but I would rather play UM again than any other team in the top 10.

IU always plays a good half, or 3 quarters. Would love them to catch scUM looking ahead to OSU. They don't need to beat scUM, just make them look shitty.

Crowd was great the first half. Fully into it and giving the FSU warrior chant back to their fans.

Wimbush was great the first half. Used his legs in the second half for some clutch plays. The kid can't pass like Book, but he's a gamer.

Defense was up and down, but came through when it needed to.

Dex was a stud. RB's came close to breaking about 8-9 big ones in addition to Dex's.

O line did a great job.

BK kept the foot on the gas.

For those clamoring for a statement win, you got it.

Asked my daughter how she liked her first ND game. One word "Awesome!"

HEY! WE'RE UNDEFEATED!

Syracuse has an excellent pass rush defense (33 sacks on the year)...but are 107th in total passing defense ?

So, I would believe the Irish O-Line would be looking at a Pitt-type defense.

Nothing better than a first game experience of crushing the Criminoles.

I think it will depend on who is behind Mustipher Saturday.

My cousin's husband is from up-state NY and is a huge Syracuse fan (mainly b-ball) and I watched the Syracuse / Criminoles game with him and to be honest, last nights game was almost identical.

Dexter and Mack played exactly the way we all thought they would when they signed here.

Wimbush wasn't great but he played good.

The confidence the WR's are showing right now is amazing.

Okwara is becoming a monster.

Defense played soft at times.

Much better play from the O-line.

Not a fan of those green jerseys.

Great job coaching staff for getting this team ready.

Congrats to all the seniors for a final home win.

My mother texted me during the game. "Boy are those ND uniforms ugly" lol.
Personally I liked them. Would have preferred all green (with green pants)

Just realized that the true seniors, not 5th years, have won 34 games while at ND, with a chance for 38. That's pretty amazing. Not as good as teams like Bama, OSU, or Clemson, but still very good. Imagine if some of those games in 2016 had gone better. Almost every loss was by a TD or less.

My Postgame Thoughts:
1) The crowd was pumped up and into the game every second.
2) Wimbush played a solid game, I felt he spread the ball around to different WR.
3) Another impressive game for Dex, too bad we didn't have another year with him.
4) Mack saved his best game for his last game at ND.
5) FSU is bad...such an undisciplined team. I feel that Cam Akers talent is being wasted.
6) It feels good to be 10-0.

Go Irish!!

Just beat SU. UM won’t be catching us no matter their result. I mean SU nearly beat Clemson and will likely be ranked BY THE COMMITTEE in the top 12. Our fan base needs to settle down. Just win. Don’t worry about style points.

Yup, little dusty here too. Lot of heart there, and he bounced back from those knee issues in a big way.

Got back super late this morning after the game, driving all night. It was a fairly cold one! Not the coldest game I've been to, but it was decently frigid. Florida State certainly had problems with the cold, it was funny seeing their sideline. Most Away teams are spread out from about the 30 yard line to the other 30. The whole Florida State team was huddled between the 40 and nearest 30 because there was a heater there  A lot more of their guys were wearing sleeves compared to ours too.

That said, that ball must have been a rock because it looked hard to kick and occasionally handle. Got a little scared, Brandon seemed to be throwing the ball up for grabs a few times like in the past, but he also made some good throws. I'm hoping Book is able to go for next week, but if not hopefully Wimbush can take care of the ball and/or the defense can slow down the 'Cuse offense.

Was a little disappointed on the TDs where Florida State scored. Both times it seemed like the interior of the DL just let them run right up the middle. The start of the 3rd quarter was particularly bad, it seemed like we came out of halftime unmotivated. Things got cleaned up though, and they didn't score again after that which was good. Other than the puzzling easy scores in the red zone, defense played pretty well. Florida State came in cocky (with that record?), but they were shut up early with the early fumble recovery and INT.

Gonna miss some of these seniors. Chris Finke has been a gamer, he showed it again last night with a great return, he's got a lot of heart. Tranquil has had a lot of heart too, he gets beat up but gets back up and keeps on coming. I wasn't a big fan of Mustipher back in 2016, but he picked up his game and has been very solid the last two years, worthy of being a captain. Here's hoping these senior class finishes strong and ends the season on a big note.

Was at the game.

-BW did good, but we need Book from here on out
-Juice ran with a purpose through the line
-Defense was a little underwhelming.
-Person running the video board is the real MVP
-Those helmets under the lights are the best thing ever.

The desperation pass towards Finke that could have been a pick 6 was infuriating and worthy of a thank you from BW to Finky. Can’t believe he completely whiffed on the wide open receiver right in front of him. Missing the wide open target was probably BWs downfall plus not taking the easy underneath stuff.
