I am in a group text with a Michigan fan, USC fan, and an Iowa fan.... they all 3 think UM will jump ND when the initial CFP picks come out. Thier reasoning is Shea Patterson and UM were just getting started and the CFP people will know UM is a better team. I know having beat the #6 team in the country is something that looks great on paper... but I hate Michigan fans so they just need to lose every game. I can see them losing to Penn State and OSU... and they play their instate rival MSU... would be great to see them lose all 3.

I'm not worried about UM, if they win out they will knock Ohio State out. If they lose to Ohio State they are out. Either way, we're fine.

I will say, this is another example of how stupid the committee/eye ball test is. You can rationalize putting in a one loss team over an undefeated team, who beat that team. All because, they "look" better near the end of the season. It's insane and I can't believe people are good with it.

Wellll... we also weren’t starting Book and Dex was suspended. So there’s that.

Exactly and don't forget the final score was much closer than the game "felt"...talk about eye test, UM looked lost, except for their D picking it up in the second half against our backup QB and RB

That's what I've been seeing. Michigan fans have been saying "If we play the game today on neutral field, Michigan wins." No, because we'd have Dex and Book, we'd end up winning by more.

Fuck Michigan, this is why we don't need to root for them to win at all after our meeting.

If everyone continues to win, we open at #3, ahead of Clemson. Guaranteed.

It's normal for these idiots to start this BS. Pittsburgh isn't a bad team. Michigan Is on a winning streak. We beat both.

How we did against common opponents would probably drive that decision.
Doubt it. We destroyed Stanford and Virginia Tech, plus a win over now-top-ten Michigan. Clemson has played exactly nobody, no matter how badly they crushed Wake. They could go undefeated with zero quality wins.

If ND loses to USC and finishes 11-1 and Michigan wins out who gets the last spot?!
Michigan. They will have a OSU victory on the resume, plus Big Ten is a powerful conference. If it was the Big 12 or Pac we may stand a chance. SEC,Big 10 > ND

Both. Michigan wins out they win their conference and take OSU’s spot. We then will have beat the Bug 10 champs and CFP qualifier. Unless we are blown out by USC.

Don't see OSU winning out either.

They do have a supportive schedule though... toughest remaining games @MichSt, and has Mich at home. I don't think scUM can beat them on the road. OSU's O is just too good. @MichSt is probably the best bet, but I'm not counting on it. Will it be the MichSt that beat PennSt this weekend, or the one that lost at home vs NW the week before.

Same record, we own the head-to-head. Still gotta be us.

Scenario would mean:

Michigan

Conference Champ
Last 2 games would've beat pOSU and Big 10 West Champion
Won 12 in a row

Notre Dame

Final impression would be a loss to USC
Beat Michigan first game of the year at home.

I know how this would go, and it won't be in ND's favor. The head to head took place the first game of the year, meaning it's significance to the committee will be almost zero.

Agree, that is what would happen.

no they would put a SEC in before 1 loss ND
Only if LSU beats Alabama or Alabama loses the SEC championship game. Otherwise, #2 in the SEC will have two losses.

I know people like to cry that everyone hates us but, if anything, committee rankings have been overly generous to ND since the CFP started.

Maybe. Unless an 11-1 Georgia beats a 12-0 Bama team in the SEC CG. Two 12-1 SEC teams could get in over an 11-1 ND.
If our bid depends on Alabama beating Georgia, I feel pretty good about our chances.

Really? When have they been overly generous? I thought they have been pretty fair.

2017 Week 10

#8 Coaches
#5 AP
#3 CFP

Highest ranked one loss team, ahead of Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Penn State, and others.

For example.

How the fuck were we 8th in the coaches poll? We had just gone through a stretch of killing teams, including 3 ranked teams. Crazy. I think 3-5 was pretty fair at that point. 8th was bad.

Surely ND's involvement would make a lot more national interest than 2 SEC teams that were there last year (in the case of Georgia, Alabama) especially if Clemson is also still there. Basically I think they would go out of their way to get either ND and/or Michigan in to add something new.

Not sure I'd call that generous...

ND had one loss, which was at that time, a one point loss to the #1 team in the country. It was also very early in the year. OSU had just dropped one to an unranked Iowa team. OK, to an unranked ISU. Clemson, to an unranked Syracuse. PSU had just dropped one to OSU the week before.

We definitely had the "best loss" of all those teams and we were fresh off poundings of two top 15 teams (USC and NCSt).

Regardless, it was still MORE generous than the non-CFP polls. The committee values how we schedule. Clemson played freaking Furman this season. Georgia Southern is excusable. Furman is not.

If we win out and Clemson wins out, we're ahead of them at least until the ACC championship game.

The other poles had us victims of other's starting positions. We were unranked to start the season, and popped back into the poles week 5. The CFP in week 10 gets a blank slate. That's how it should be.

My dream scenario is we win out. Clemson and OSU win out. LSU beats Bama week 10. And LSU, TX, UGA, or scUM gets the last spot.
