Kareem Hunt released after the Chiefs worst fear of the public seeing the video they have had since February of him assaulting a woman on tape is seen by all.

That should be the headline.

I don’t think anyone but TMZ had the video. The Chiefs said in their statement that Hunt lied to them about what happened, and now they know that, so that’s why they released him.

Redskins will pick him up soon no italics!

Is there a rule somewhere that says nothing can happen in the AFC without it directly benefitting NE??

Here is the full statement from Chiefs owner Clark Hunt:

“Earlier this year, we were made aware of an incident involving running back Kareem Hunt. At that time, the National Football League and law enforcement initiated investigations into the issue. As part of our internal discussions with Kareem, several members of our management team spoke directly to him. Kareem was not truthful in those discussions. The video released today confirms that fact. We are releasing Kareem immediately.”

NFL issues statement on running back Kareem Hunt

The NFL has placed Kareem Hunt of the Kansas City Chiefs on the Commissioner Exempt list, and as a result, he may not practice, play or attend games. The NFL’s investigation, which began immediately following the incident in February, will include a review of the new information that was made public today.

Here is the exact description of the Commissioner Exempt list from the NFL Player Personnel Policy Manual:

The Exempt List is a special player status available to clubs only in unusual circumstances. The List includes those players who have been declared by the Commissioner to be temporarily exempt from counting within the Active List limit. Only the Commissioner has the authority to place a player on the Exempt List; clubs have no such authority, and no exemption, regardless of circumstances, is automatic. The Commissioner also has the authority to determine in advance whether a player’s time on the Exempt List will be finite or will continue until the Commissioner deems the exemption should be lifted and the player returned to the Active List.

He was released by the Chiefs after being placed on the Commissioner Exempt list.

Everyone's going to want to look as adding the NFL's leading rusher last year to their team. Hunt was the 86th overall pick in 2017, he’s in the second year of a four-year contract that will pay him $575,290 in 2018, 667,250 in 2019, and $735,000 in 2020. I imagine that contract may follow him, but perhaps he is now a Free Agent and can negotiate a new one. The secondary aspect of this - the business side - means every team other than KC can benefit and if Hunt can negotiate a new one, he will benefit. KC did not have to release him but, for them, he crossed a line and then lied to them and the NFL.

Do I gotta be that guy...

I didn’t think the video was that bad. Looked like a drunk dude pushing people out of his room and then getting super mad in a hallway. Even the kick was half-hearted.

Obviously it would have been worse had he not had some good friends there, but this was no Ray Rice incident.

Agree. If we're being non-sexist about the issue, she was giving as much (she threw a punch, he pushed) or more than she got. She also got into the other guy who looked to be just trying to break things up. The kick was more like a tap. It's not like he drop kicked her or t'd off.

Had he punched her, or truly kicked her, I'd be saying something different. Her friends were all more concerned about getting a vid than trying to break things up.

He's still is obviously an idiot, and a punk. If you're loaded ($), ignore stupid shit like that. And don't surround yourself with stupid people in the first place. Looked like most of his friends were trying to settle things down. Not sure if the girl was a long time friend, or someone he just met.

I think there's lots in the 'that guy' stance with you. The problem is in today's society you often can't get 2 words out of what you said without being labeled as an abuser yourself. As a piece of shit. Because to most, all of these situations are the same. When in reality, most of them aren't.

IMO:

The intent looked like it was there. He lost control, and went after a woman.

Maybe the actual damage wasnt that bad, but his lapse in judgement revealed a deep character flaw that needs to be addressed through a consequence (in this case, outright release from team, and stink around him for awhile).

Should he be labeled a pariah like Rice and never play again? No. Joe Mixon is in the league, and had a transgression 100x worse.

Absolutely agree and I wasn’t going to be the first one to say it. Definitely a dick move of an outraged guy but think he actually kept it somewhat under control for what he was capable of. Obviously that is no excuse but this was no Ray Rice incident. Hunt will be done for the year and receive a 6 game suspension at the least whenever/if he is picked up next year. It’s deserveing IMO but this is honestly not a “brutal” video that people are making it out to be. Bad, yes. Brutal? I think not. Rule #1 in life: you don’t touch women.

Meanwhile, a NJ Mayor and city councilman get in a brawl outside a casino with the Mayor looking like the biggest aggressor, and I doubt he loses a day's pay.

Callaway just now deep bomb Touchdown,... called back.
Two plays later:
Callaway breaks a big one, fumbles the ball going into the end zone...

Two seventy plus yard touchdowns that weren’t in three plays.

In the race for the final AFC Playoff spot, I consider Cincy (5-7) and Cleveland (4-7-1) eliminated. Houston solidified their spot, though, dislodging them had only a slim chance. Tenn (6-6) escaped with a fourth quarter comeback. Baltimore (7-5) has a one game advantage over four 6-6 teams - Indy, Miami, Denver and Tenn - and is a game back of Pittsburgh

This week three of the five face current conference leaders and will not be favored. Baltimore v KC, Miami v New England, Indy v Houston. Denver (v. 2-10 San Fran) and Tenn (v 4-8 Jacksonville) will be favorites in their games.

Denver's next three opponents have a combined record of 8-27-1.

Texans wrap up the division with a win and Titans loss.
Saints wrap it up with a victory OR Panthers loss.
Rams have already clinched.

Kareem Hunt linked to another assault, at Mosaic nightclub in Kansas City

The first paragraphs:
A Gladstone man told Kansas City police that former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was among a group of men who punched him and temporarily knocked him unconscious during an altercation at a nightclub in the Power and Light District in January.

The incident happened about 2 a.m. Jan. 7 inside of Mosaic, a nightclub at 13th Street and Walnut Avenue. The 38-year-old victim said he suffered a broken rib, a broken nose and numerous cuts and bruises. He reported the incident on Jan. 11.

No criminal charges were filed in the Mosaic incident, which occurred hours after the Chiefs were eliminated from the playoffs after blowing an 18-point lead to the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium. The report became publicly known Monday, days after video surfaced of Hunt shoving and kicking a woman in the hallway of his Cleveland hotel residence in February. The Chiefs released Hunt after that video became public. No NFL teams claimed Hunt on Monday and he became a free agent.

The Chiefs were aware of the January incident, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, and reported it then to the NFL to be investigated, per league policy.

The assault is the third violent incident linked to Hunt in a five-month span beginning in January and stretching to a June altercation where Hunt allegedly punched a man in the face at an Ohio resort. The Chiefs didn’t have a comment about the Mosaic incident.

The man who reported the assault in Kansas City told police he was walking to the restrooms when he saw one of his friends being shoved by three other men. He identified one of the men as George Atkinson, who at the time was on the Chiefs’ practice squad. He was released in April.

The victim said he confronted Atkinson, who responded by punching him in the shoulder. The victim then punched Atkinson in the face.

Atkinson was signed to the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad on September 19, 2017. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on January 10, 2018. He was waived on April 4, 2018. He is currently on the Jets practice squad.

Hearing some outrage for firing McCarthy during the season. Not sure why? Players get dumped during the season all the time. Although, I'm not sure this is all McCarthy's fault. GB roster really doesn't have a lot of talent after Rodgers. Always wondered if McCarthy was good or did AR make him look good?

I think McCarthy is good. I don't get the outrage either. Firing him now was more honorable than keeping him on a searching for a new coach behind his back. Gives him more time to find a new gig. I'd bet he's a HC (NFL or College) or high paid OC in short order. His agent is getting hammered right now with calls I bet.

Not sure who is outraged; as a cheesehead I couldn't be happier to see him go, and most of the Packers fans I've interacted with in person and online seem happy about the news. I respect him and the successes he's had, but his stale West Coast offense has run it's course. No excuse to not be scoring more points when you have a solid RB in Aaron Jones leading the league in YPC (only averaging about 10 carries per game despite that) providing balance, a legitimate #1 WR in Adams, and good young talent behind him to compliment Rodgers. The OL regressed a bit this year, but slow developing pass plays requiring the WRs to create separation has been a point of contention in McCarthy's stubborn play calling style, and isn't helping an average OL.

Winning a Super Bowl (7 years ago) only gets you so far. He's 1-3 in the NFC championship game.

MM to Cleveland is a trending thought,... not sure how I’d feel about that really....

You can have him. He did nothing to develop Brett Hundley in 3 years behind Rodgers, and his offense in ranked a whopping 16th in the NFL in scoring with arguably the most talented QB in the NFL. The league has passed McCarthy up IMO.

Let's not forget, this all happened after he purged his coaching staff this past off-season out of desperation. Yet little has changed on the field.

Would be awful.

McCarthy is no Terry Robiskie, Chris Palmer, Rob Chudzinski, Hue Jackson, Eric Mangini, and all the other proven, stellar head coaches the Browns have hired since coming back.

Who do you want?

I like the youth movement going on well enough, but I don't have anyone highlighted just yet... to M McCarthy kind of is like the other hires the Browns have made over the years... I'm kind of over another retread, even though that may not be entirely fair you get the point.
