Dammit... he was a strong consideration for the Bengals.

With the 41st pick of the 2017 IE Mock Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select:

Adoree' Jackson, CB, USC

web-football-emily-smith.jpg

This is a little bit of a reach here, but we don't like any of the WR's still available for this spot. Curtis Samuel is ranked highly, but he's the same player as Tyler Boyd, who the Bengals grabbed last year. They want a ready-made outside receiver to go opposite AJ Green, and it's a big reach for any of those at this point.

We thought about Evan Engram, but if we were going to grab a pass-catching TE, it was going to be Njoku, but he was stolen out from under us.

That leaves us to look at the next big need, which is CB. The Bengals actually have great numbers at CB with Adam Jones, Dre Kirkpatrick, Darquez Dennard, William Jackson III, and KeiVarae Russell... But only Kirkpatrick and Jackson III have sure futures in Cincy. Jones is old (and super fucking dumb) and Dennard hasn't developed like they thought he would (though he's got time to prove himself this season). They have high hopes for how Russell played to end last season, but he's no sure-thing, either.

That makes grabbing a 6th CB reasonable here, as long as there is some added versatility... which Jackson has is spades, as a return man on both kicks and punts.

This pick addresses a CB need a year early, but it makes sense for the value and versatility, even though other teams might see it as a reach.

In 2018, the Bengals could be rolling out Kirkpatrick, Jackson III, and Jackson as their top-3 CB's, with Russell as a special-teamer and quality Dime corner. That's one enforcer, one lock-down guy, and two athletic freaks. That's a nice mix.

With the 42st pick in the Irish Envy Mock Draft, the Saints select Sidney Jones, CB, from Washington.

hi-res-a69457eec60f49a620bf17feae512d45_crop_north.jpg

The Saints had huge needs at Cornerback going into the draft as noted in the 32nd pick. They have balked at the asking price for Malcolm Butler with an offer sheet by New England that would surrender their 11th pick. This still could happen though. Seattle’s Richard Sherman is a possibility, but there are mixed signals there. Having addressed Cornerback with the 32nd pick from New England for Brandin Cooks with the pick of LSU’s Tre’Davious White as well as their Edge needs with the pick of Derek Barnett with that eleventh pick, the Saints have needs at LB, WR and, in later rounds, may also address depth at S, RB, interior DL, TE and the QB of the future.

Jones was at the top of our Board for CB - and many others - before his Achilles tear. His skills, the type of tear and recovery time, his attitude (“I’m going to be better than I was.”) and commitment factored into the decision. Jones has no character difficulties. We believe Jones may even be back for the start of the season and could sit and watch, if necessary, to learn any other NFL-level skills, the types of schemes the Saints use, the WRs in the division and what will be asked of him. He is a pure cover corner, who will lock down the opponent’s top WR. He has been compared to his former teammate, Marcus Peters, without the baggage.

Of the six CBs currently on the Saints roster, two (Delvin Breux, Sterling Moore) are signed through 2017 and the other four (Damian Swann, P.J. Williams, Ken Crawley, and DeVante Harris) are signed through 2018. B.W. Webb was released. Due to injuries, Swann, Breaux, and Williams started only ten games between them and played in only fifteen. Will they all be back? Was last year the year backups experienced playing time? As far as cap impact, of those six CBs, three are on contracts at the minimum salaries with no dead money and another is signed through 2017 with only a $200,000 of dead money if released this year. With this pick, the Saints can pick and choose which other current CBs to extend or release. Coby Fleener’s contract through 2020 takes up considerable cap space, but the dead money decreases from $12.2 million to a manageable $4.8 million next year, and creating $3.2 million in cap space if he is released or traded. So, a Tight End was considered for this pick as was Quincy Wilson and Zach Cunningham. In the end, Sidney Jones was a talent too good to pass up.

Washington CB Sidney Jones: "I'm going to be back better than I was."

I have really enjoyed the write ups today.

Who'll take the Eagles?

1st Roun Pick - 1(11) Derek Barnett, DE

No Philly fans out there? Biģest needs were CB for the worst Passing Offense in the NFL and RB since Ryan Matthews is not expected back after a hrniated disc in his neck leaving only 36 year old Darren Sproles. Or Best Player Available? No one with snowballs? Skip?

First pick: Marlon Humphrey.

With the 43rd pick in the IE Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select Alvin Kamara, RB, from Tennessee.

The Eagles addressed their CB need in the first round with the pick of Marlon Humphrey. They also have needs at RB and LB, after free agent signings. Switching to a 3-4, a couple of DEs may move to OLB spots, lessening the immediate LB need to draft a starter. As for RB, Ryan Matthews, their leading RB, may not return due to a herniated neck disc. His backup is 36 year old Darren Spoles. Matthews accounted for almost half the Eagles rushing yardage per game. Kamara fills a primary need, is an accomplished runner who can catch passes even lining up as a slot receiver at Tennessee.

What do you think, Eagles' fans?

1st Round Pick - 1(16) Marlon Humphrey, CB

What's the best option here? Skip the Bills until they're ready, or take GB's pick?

The Bills have high priority needs at CB and S.

Quincy Wilson, CB, who may also end up playing S and who would fit in their Cover 3 scheme, is the best pick.

(From here on out, I am just checking in to see how this is going.)

1st Round Pick - 1(10) Ruben Foster, LB

As Legacy mentioned, the Bills have needs at CB and Safety.

If Wilson has the necessary athleticism to play corner in the NFL, then he'll be a great option as a Nickel. If not, he's a great option as a safety. Nice, well-rounded value pick that will address a need regardless of where he ends up.

With the 45th pick in the 2017 IE Mock Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select:

JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC

juju.jpg

The Cardinals addressed QB in round one, and now they've got a big-time target for their QB of the future.

Smith-Schuster doesn't have the top-end speed to be a bona fide no.1 if he's playing opposite another possession receiver, so he needs the right situation to shine... and the Cardinals present the PERFECT situation. They have several burners at WR, and adding Smith-Schuster allows the WR from USC to act as the enforcer of the WR corps, winning with physicality and snatching 50/50 balls away from overmatched CB's while the opposition worries about the speed that's on the opposite side of the field (or in the slot).

Smith-Schuster also has the ability to play the slot in the NFL, as he's not afraid to go over the middle and challenge the defense. He ain't scurred, and can win with size and strength after the catch.

Lion, thanks for updating the OP. Keep the train a rollin. Any Colts fans out there? At some point they need an upgrade on their D or they will never be a serious threat to anyone.

SIAP:

Back to the Browns and QBs for a second, just had a thought... if Watson has a decent year, this nauseating insistence to harp on the Wentz trade will only get worse next year... that should be fun...
