Rex’s shot looks so bad/awkward this year. Lots of air balls and bricks.

Teams are learning to simply double Bonzi every time and take their chances.

Our offense is painful to watch right now.

It’s painful to watch Bonzie not know how to handle double teams. Three times this game he has missed guys cutting to the basket wide open because of the rotation of the defense when they go to double him. He either needs to go quick or power dribble back and square up to the hoop to find his cutting players. He is tall enough to see over it.

Not just him.

When IU is doubling ball-screen's, watch where the next pass usually is. Waaaaaay over on the other side of the court (it's essentially our 3 guys being guarded successfully by 2 IU defenders).

Gibbs hit a 3 off a pass from Farrell after a ball screen. He rotated to the top of the key. Easy pass out of a double (it was a weak double), open 3.

Same thing when Farrell penetrates. Guys move 3 ft MAX. He has no lane to throw a pass to a shooter.

Up 2, with the game on the line, Rex turns down an open 3, 2 dribbles into defenders for a fade-away elbow jumper.

Guh.

Does everyone still think that Rex should be starting and getting significant minutes?

That's any absolutely awful implosion. Team needs to get its shit together quickly or they aren't making the tournament.

Yeah when Gus Johnson said Archie Miller was still looking for a marquee win I thought no team that loses to IU on a neutral court will be a marquee win for them at the end......

going to be a long and disappointing season

We can still be really good, we have a lot of good pieces.

Brey is going to be tested with how loyal he seems to be with upper classmen.

Why go with Torres instead of Burns? Is he hurt? Was he just not prepared?

Right now, we have way too many 1-dimensional guys put in spots they can't contribute in. Rex apparently doesn't want to shoot. Geben can do nothing but dunk. Mooney can't play defense against the guys you're asking him to guard.

We need to see more of Harvey, Djogo, and Burns. As good as people think TJ and Rex are as on-ball defenders, maybe we're just going to have to be more of a zone team. I don't know.

I think we miss Matt Ryan more than I could have possibly imagined.

Pretty bad when not once but twice don’t box out on a rebound and give up an offensive board when they ball didn’t even hit hard off the rim. Worst part is your pre season all American gives up both

Being a huge fan of both teams, this is always a tough game to watch. ND played a bit down IMO. Colson played great, but Morgan a little better. IU is still a team finding it's identity, but they won't be as bad as predicted in the Big10. I do think Archie has IU starting to believe and they are getting scrappier and scrappier. Morgan is emerging and Johnson seems to have found his game again. The close loss to Duke, and now a road win at ND. Is the tide turning, or just a lucky win over an in-state rival?
ND has a month to get their shit together before going to NC. It will be interesting to see who are the starters for that game. I have to believe if they figure out a piece or two, Colson will keep this team in any game.

O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D.

This team hasn't been the same since the MSU game.

The past few times ND gets into the top 10 they flop.

They better get ready when the ACC schedule starts....

Probably not a top 10 team right now, but they have the pieces to be really good. They just need to figure out their starting line up, get better on the boards and at the line. Colson is bad ass and they will get better as they figure out the supporting cast. In state games are always tough. Colson had a season high, but Morgan had a career high. It happens. They have a almost a month before they go to NC (who also gotten beaten badly by MichSt). NC is over rated too IMO. I bet they struggle with Tenn today.

I agree with you, ND does have the pieces to be a really good team.

I'd like to see more of DJ Harvey.

One of these days, a Notre Dame team in men's basketball / football is going to be legit.

Program goes to the Elite 8 two of the past three years and someday they're gonna be legit.

Note to self... this is why you should stay out of the basketball threads.

I wouldn't get too caught up with the term legit. They have had some "legit" teams a few times in the past 5-10 years, but the program hasn't been consistently "legit" like a Duke or NC. They are trending very well, and this year's (2018) recruiting class is about as good as I've ever seen NDl get. 4 kids that are top 20 at their positions, top 10 class nationally. Things are good for the Irish. If they can keep it up, LEGIT (from an overall program) is what they will be. I'm just ecstatic that they have done what they have done with the recruits they've gotten. Definitely overachieving. I wish the FB team overachieved like the BB team did.

The End.

Con, UK, KY, Syr, KU, MichSt, FL, Lou, Gonz, AZ++

If we are talking programs (not teams), here's a pretty simple/fair stack of programs since 2010 and one from 2000. ND didn't make either list.

Not bagging on ND. They have done awesome with what they have recruited. Now their recruiting is looking fantastic. Trending very very good.

They are struggling at the moment, but they have absolutely trended upward. Brey and his squads have outperformed expectations time and time again. Thanks for articulating what I did not in my post.

They will figure shit out this year, hopefully in time to go to Chapel Hill. Another class or two like 2018 and they will be solid top 10 for the next 5 years assuming the bottom does not fall out and something strange happens. I'm expecting a minimum sweet 16 this year, but possible final 4 if they can get things in line to support Colson. Harvey's minutes will increase as the year goes along. If he matures faster than expected, could be crazy good. Gibbs is going to get better too. Rex is getting way too many minutes for only 7ish ppg.... It'll shake out.

Went to the game. Pfuegler has no confidence at this time. He turned down multiple wide open threes driving and taking bad shots or passing. We have no rebounding after Bonzi. That killed us especially on the missed FT. Brey went to the zone a little too late as Morgan owned us down low. Worst case double team him if you’re staying in man to man. Bonzi almost saved the day. That shot was down deep before it came out.
