You’re right. I responded rudely, and I own up to that. But don’t inflate your sense of authority on respect when a member with more seniority is allowed a pass for being rude also.

I wasn't rude.

There's Duke, UNC, UK & KU + MSU which I omitted. Then Zona, Nova & UVa. There was Ville, UConn, & Cuse.

I’m just frustrated by the harsh reality that the Notre Dame we love has yet to really silence the critics. It was disappointing to see the team fall after being validated for their hard work in the polls. We get the national chatter and then underwhelm. This is a characteristic more common with football, and I was hoping basketball could avoid the pitfall this year. But to paraphrase a previous wise poster, they’ll work it out with experience and bounce back.

I don’t expect our teams to win the title every year, but elite would mean that we win it at least once a decade. Basketball is sort of exempt from the pressures of football, even though they have been more successful with significantly less resources. They deserve respect for pulling out big wins when needed most. I don’t see that trend fading with Brey at the helm. Football made some strides this year with some key changes, but ultimately fell short. It’s a glass half full / half empty scenario.

A title is needed to be elite.

That's why I stay out of here. I played against ND in hoops back when dinosaurs walked the earth.

Nah. This one is actually on me for being the resident jerk. I misread NDCrusader, and I own up to my mistake.

As a new friend reminded me, it’s good to take a deep breath and not stress so much.

The vast majority of us here want ND to succeed, and are really all on the same team.

TBH, after watching that game in person, I'm not sure we deserved to be ranked as high as we were. No doubt we had some good early wins, but I think the pollsters overreacted early which they have a tendency to do at the beginning of the season. This is a pretty good team when everyone is hitting on all cylinders, but when one is off, it really hurts. Was surprised Torres wasn't getting a chance to guard Morgan. Barely saw the court. We really need an athletic tall guy to play with Bonzi. That's our weak spot right now.

I disagree. Our weak spot is our lack of 3 point shooters. We can't space the floor at all because the only guys that are real threats from 3 point land is Farrell and Gibbs. Lots of sagging defense doesn't give Bonzi any real room to operate. It seems like Brey's offense tends to work best with one quality big and 4 guys who can knock down three's.

I've said this before, I have know clue what has happened to Rex's shot between last year and this year. Last year he was a capable shooter and this year he can't hit the broad side of a barn. While his shooting form has never been great, this year it's a complete disaster. He routinely launches 3 point shots that his form looks so bad, that I've said to myself "Oh God" as he releases the ball.

Rex's skill set is perfect for a sixth man role, but I'm skeptical that Brey will go that route.

1) Don't want to be "that guy", but his name is Bonzie lol (multiple people pulling a goslton)

2) Rex still has the highest +/- on the team. Not sure how the qualifies as "6th man material". (He also has the 2nd most rebounds on the team and is our best perimeter defender)

What site do you use for +/-? I really want to use that stat for some things, but can't find it anywhere. I'd like to see it for our games against "Quality" opponents.

In any case, using college sports reference, they have him listed as third on the team in total rebounds, as well as being at or near the bottom of those players who get decent playing time in a host of offensive categories, especially using advanced metrics.

I'd argue that TJ is our best perimeter defender, but I think that's splitting hairs. In either case, it's not elite. On this team, does he offer such a significant upgrade defensively that it masks how bad he has been offensively?

Going to my first Irish basketball game in January (Va. Tech). Losing to Loosiers on Sat. temporarily put a damper on my excitement, but I've gotten over that by now. I have a question though regarding b-ball parking. Do you need a pass to park in the lots south of the football stadium and Joyce Center OR is that open to all attendees? I've looked at the UND site for parking, but it centers around football game day. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

You should be able to park right in those parking lots unless they changed that this year.

IMO, you just emphasized my point. Without any other threats, you need someone to help on the boards, especially when the shots aren't falling. A couple more rebounds and Saturday would have been a win.

While you may be right as it relates to that particular game, I don't think that's the solution for a long term fix. Yes, an athletic big could've gotten us a few more rebounds in that particular game and we could've felt good about ourselves beating a bad .500 team that just got blown out at home by Fort Wayne.

The fact remains that our offense is painful to watch right now. Pflueger is obviously not even close to the entire problem. Gibbs was on fire at the beginning of the year but seems to have lost some of his aggressiveness along the way. Harvey seems to have regressed a bit and has become a bit more timid. Burns was supposed to be one of the first guys off the bench, but his minutes are down and didn't play at all in 2 of the last 4 games.

The point still remains, that Brey's offense over the years has worked best when you had one quality big man and 4 guys who can knock down three pointers. This is part of the reason I was so hyped about Nate Laszewski signing. He will be perfect for Brey's offense. I'm hoping that Gibbs and Harvey can start playing a little more aggressive and Pflueger can figure out his shot enough so that he can be a reasonable threat from 3 point land. If not, look for teams to continue to not respect us from the perimiter and continually double Bonzie.

It is painful to watch. Pflueger has no confidence in his shot right now and it's affecting his all around play. Gibbs is still trying to figure out his role. It's not just doubling Bonzi. They're doubling Farrell out high keeping him from shooting or making those sneaky assists he's good at.

This is starting to get sad. Luckily Farrell and Bonzie just decided to carry us.

We need someone else. If you're looking for points from Mooney, can't put him on their big.

And good lord please quit hedging so hard on ball screens.

Hmm. I can't even fathom what line-ups we're going to go with now.

I remember when Gody went down, and the "Burn" was born.

We may be lucky to score 50 tomorrow while we adjust.

That really sucks for him. I hope he heals up fast. ND fans can’t even great for 24 hours.

I'm guessing they start Mooney instead of Burns because we don't want to clog up the lane with two bigs who can't shoot. This also probably means Harvey and Djogo are going to get more time because we need a third scoring threat to emerge.

Their gonna have to play even smaller now with colson out. The rebounding is gonna be atrocious. It’s gonna have to be a team effort to get the boards. I’m scared to see what a top team like unc or duke will do to us on the boards

One of two players that ND could NOT afford to lose (him and Ferrell). Gonna need Torres to come in and actually hit a free throw sometime this season to make up the slack!

it will be interesting to see if they try to play more up tempo to try to negate the opposing bigs. Brey already stated before the injury that he wanted the team playing faster, now it might be a necessity.

Harvey is getting start in absence of bonzie. Time for him to step it up a notch. He needs to take advantage of this opportunity. I think it will help him to get more shots off. We all know he can play it’s time to show everyone else he can be that guy
