How much territory did those sensors cover? How much did they cost per mile?

its the networks that get expensive...relatively speaking, but I think there are military assets which could find new life deployed in support of this endeavor. Sensors deployed in structures like poles and walls are cheap in terms of energy and price. They are generally passive until "exposed" to an event they are tuned to "resonate" with.

I don't think you could dig under a "wall" with tectonic type sensors, nor could you fly over it, or pass by it without your presence being detected. combination of Solar and wind power generation, and the tiny draw...then all you are is blasting event driven comms...still cheap in terms of power.

Fly drones deployed so there is always one in range to receive, and forward events.

I mean to me...the model for this type of surveillance already exists in the military, only they watch a different kind of event.

I wouldn't be able to even do a ROM/WAG without knowing what structure would be allowed...but my vision is something a foot tall and concrete where it makes sense to have a structure.

Whatever Trump does, regardless of what it is called...if it is successful, it will be Obama's, and if it fails it will be Trump's. I mean...just because the MSM got knocked on their ass over this election doesn't mean they don't/won't control the narrative regarding who gets credit for what, and whose legacy they pump up.

The reality is, Trump has, all along, given a nod to a couple aspects of ACA, and planned on keeping those in whatever goes forward.

President Obama is showing great leadership during the transition...not taking that away from him. But when he had everything in his favor he failed to address immigration reform, and he is the one who claimed they could walk and chew gum at the same time...He oversaw shovel ready jobs...i mean not so shovel ready jobs, hehehe, and the idiotic exchange rollout, as well as the lies and ramrod job that is ACA...he also said nothing when Harry reid was re-writing the rules in the senate btw, and really didn't do much when it is clear someone weaponized the IRS....and at least half the country did not see justiice in his justrice departments, as relationships with law enforcement melted down. And multiple times got his ass handed to him by Scotus.

I mean, if people do an honest accounting, he tried to do some shit...for sure...but in terms of a legacy...to me he becomes the picture in the book next to "motion isn't progress...or a good idea without a plan is called a wish.

His administration operated almost entirely in the realm of the political.

I don't expect more from Trump, but at least I know his shit will get called out.

A Congress of the opposite party and a refusal to address glaring problems with compromise legislation - immigration, health care, military defense contract expenditures, tax code revisions, offshore tax avoidance - set the stage for anyone who argued that "Washington doesn't work anymore" and railed against "the Establishment".

Mostly the story behind Trump's administration is whether he or the Republican Congress controls the agenda.

Slate has more than one writer. These articles are written by two different people.

Defending the Electoral College.

The Electoral College is an instrument of white supremacy and sexism.

ETA: They're obviously running them at a certain time to promote their political agenda. But it's not like they both come from the slate editorial board.

Some of the comments from the SJW's and their total meltdown is hilarious. Never seen a group more out of touch with reality and completely unable to grasp just why their side lost.

I don't think they even care WHY they lost. They just did, and that's SO UNFAIR!!!!! *insert foot stomp here*

Arguably the biggest move of his Presidency, and one of the biggest points of contention in the country right now. I agree that there are some very important parts of it that shouldn't be repealed, and Trump seems keep on keeping some of those concessions like pre-existing conditions, but overall the implementation left a lot to be desired. I agree that his legacy is going to be affected by the ACA and how much of it ends up remaining.

You can't cover pre-existing conditions without a mandate. No one wants to hear that, but it's true.

The evidence, so far, indicates that even with a mandate, covering pre-existing conditions is an expensive proposition.............. for just about EVERYONE.

Because the penalty on the mandate hasn't been enough to get enough young healthy people to sign up.

Democracy is a beautiful thing...until your side loses. The democratic machine got totally behind their flawed candidate way too early...didn't even give anyone else a chance. Didn't see Bernie coming and almost lost to him (which should have been their first clue). Had the media give Trump incredible air-time (because they thought he was the easiest to beat). Now they are religated to cry-ins, foot stomping, rioting, looting, and finger pointing. The Stones had it right..."you can't always get what you want"..."but you get what you need". I for one didn't think Trump would win but I'm thoroughly intrigued with what he'll do.

The entire point of any journalistic entity having editors is exactly to avoid this kind of cognitive dissonance while obviously pushing an agend.a.

Sure. But Trump's tweets about the electoral college are far more damning than having columnists on your web site who disagree with one another.

Tell me you're a proud parent if

a) you're paying tuition to one of these fine institutions

b) your son/ daughter participates in a "cry-in" or is seen with play-doh because they're upset Trump won

This is so embarrassing.

And this is "progression". WTF

Well yeah when the penalty is $700 vs paying hundreds of dollars a month to get coverage I think the decision is pretty easy.

Unless, you know, you want insurance.

Regardless, the point remains...you can't cover pre-existing conditions without a mandate.

Embarrassing doesn't even hit it. Our future is so f'd. Social justice warriors are going to be our undoing.
This is where the left is going too. The loud gimmedat wing with socialists and crybabys is where we are headed and it's scary.
We need a draft to turn some of these "shoulda been oral night" all stars into respectable uses of oxygen.
Then again, that doesn't always work. Sad kids and failures to assimilate, etc.

Except that Trump was (for once) consistent. He said last night on 60 minutes that his views haven't changed and that he doesn't like the electoral college. So between 2012 and the 60 Minutes interview yesterday he still doesn't like electoral college... whereas Slate's editors ran one piece in 2012 and then ran a different piece in 2016 now that they're all pissy over losing.

It isn't progression and it isn't the norm.

Just keep in mind, your generation raised em. So if you want to point fingers, you guys are the world's worst parents in history.

Fair enough. I hadn't heard the Trump quote from last night. Even so, he's been calling for calm and was calling for an insurrection in 2012.

Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 11, 2016

We can't let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!
— Donald J. But, yes, Slate is being partisan by running the pieces. I agree. I just think it's worth pointing out that it's two different writers.

Gonna have to explain that one. Am I a heretic, or just a big fan of supranational institutions?

UNorthodox around here = prone to using your head instead of your emotions; giving careful thought to what you say; sourcing your opinions in fact; articulating your opinions clearly.

I have over 130 cousins one side of the family, 50ish on the other. My generation as you put, at least in my family raised kids that would laugh at this sheet. Certainly not part of the SJW or big government groups.

I'd also argue that almost every kid that attends college is pelted with continual liberal attempts of recruitment and brainwashing. My time at IU in the late 80s early 90s was full of that crap too. Funny there weren't conservative GOPers trying to pedal their goods in almost every class like the libs.

PS... HRC and Berndog are not my generation either.

My cousins wouldn't cry because of a Presidential and, get this, would have learned not to generalize an entire god damn generation on anecdotes and confirmation bias.

You act like liberals don't call these clowns out. People like Bill Maher certainly do.

Cool another stupid generalization, this time wrapped in a borderline conspiracy. And these wimps are the delusional ones?

Most college kids don't care about politics. They want booze, sex, and job prospects. But you'll have to forgive the overwhelming liberal feel of colleges, they have things like science and math and that is anathema to the GOP's position on things like climate change, balanced budget, etc. And you really can't blame them when the GOP is behind on social issues like equality for gays.

No...that would be a racist comment...and would take a backwards jackass to say shit like that.

I wasn't real fond of the first lady myself, because I actually think she meant it when she said "for the first time..."

But you see she doesn't do much flame throwing, so the other things she does outweigh my initial impression, if you will.

It is hard for me to even picture someone who really thinks like that comment, so I gotta figure this person is trying to say the most offensive thing she can think of to be a troll. I guess my point is, I understand having had a beef with the first lady, but I just don't understand how reducing your frustration to something that immediately invalidates your point, and destroys the world's view of your character...helps anything. So I am left to think this is a true racist, or she is so miserable and caustic to the rest of society...she may as well be.

Such is racism. Degrading people due to things out of their control IS the point IMO. By the way I heard worse than that four times yesterday alone.
