Wiltfong saying that he expects this to be a big class for ND this cycle. No specifics on numbers but thought I'd share.

That would be my guess but he didn't specify

Sounds good. IDK how many 5th years we will have available upcoming but it we are able to get some of these elite guys in I think I punt on some of the 5th years as it stands now.

wiltfong also stated that we are evaluating TRUE RB'S and still want a slot guy like alloway or stovall

The only 5th years that I can think of are Prosise and Jarron Jones

Scott Daly, Nicky Baratti, John Turner and Mark Harrell are the other seniors with eligibility remaining.

Prosise, depending on how he finishes the second half of the season, could go to NFL.

Jones is a no-brainer. Daly will probably come back too, I don't think BK wants true freshman John Shannon snapping right away. Let him redshirt, like BK did with Daly when Cowart was a 5th year senior.

Baratti has to come back, IMO... After this season, we'll have only two safeties on the roster with value game experience, Redfield and Tranquill, and the latter is coming off season ending knee injuries in back-to-back seasons. Fertitta has only seen special teams action so far, and Mykelti Williams has yet to play.

I'm somewhat confused by this. If no one leaves for the draft we'll have Prosise, Folston, Adams, Williams, Jones Jr. and conceivably Brent in the backfield next year. Unless we can get a 5 star or high 4 star to jump, I don't see the point in taking another RB.

Lucci, do you see Fuller going pro? I personally wouldn't want my NFL team drafting him high after seeing all of the drops and no indication he's working to fix them (i.e., catching with his hands). He's fast against the OK competition (didn't do anything against Clemson), and everyone's fast in the NFL... I don't see his NFL grade this year as high as some of you guys.

I think its due to the uncertainty of the two bolded. If that is the depth chart next season then I don't think we take another but stuff changes quickly and I think the staff is trying to be prepared should something change. Also, we're not out there recruiting depth RB's, we're trying to identify quality players like Travis Homer.

Do I think he goes pro? Yes.

Do I think he should go pro? Well thats up to whether or not its a concentration thing or a real hand eye coordination problem. I think its a concentration thing which should be able to be fixed fairly easily and coming back for another year doesn't necessarily improve that. I will agree that I don't think he's going to be drafted as high as I've seen some project him but probably a 3rd-4th round guy.

I think Jalen Folston fuller and cj sanders all return

Tried to fix it for you but still, that above is only happening if the fuller you speak of is Jordan Fuller coming back for another visit.

Maybe Kelly can pull another Ronnie Stanley-like intervention.

So about 5 spots left depending on fifth-years, correct? We have a pretty good shot at more than 5 really good prospects, right? If so, what happens?

Honestly, CJ going pro would be a big mistake. He runs too upright, he can struggle at times is pass pro and is still raw as a RB. He is electric and I am very happy he is as good as what he is, but making the leap to the NFL after one year of CFB RB is asking too much. Honestly, his numbers most likely will not be better next year, but he could be make leaps and bounds as a player. I really have a hard time believing his draft stock would be hurt, not helped, by coming back.

Well they always work out at other schools because of oversigning. I don't want ND to do that

After signing day last year I believe we were 3 or 4 over the scholarship limit but Golson and Bryant left and I think a couple of players went on medical hardship. Coaches have a good handle on the numbers.

Let's not play this game again, or at least, allow me to suggest you not waste energy trying to figure it out. The coaches gambled and everything worked out last year, I'm sure they have their finger on the pulse of the team, they know how many to take. Let's just celebrate every time we get a commit.

Huge Recruiting Weekend On Deck For Irish
Andrew Ivins
BlueandGold.com Recruiting Analyst

Recent USC decommit Daelin Hayes will be one of a number of official visitors in South Bend this weekend.

There's no question, that a home game against USC can have a major impact on an Irish recruiting class. The last time the Trojans were in town, Notre Dame welcomed 15 official visitors to campus for the weekend, including current starting left guard Quenton Nelson, current starting tight end Tyler Luatua, cornerback Nick Watkins and linebacker Nyles Morgan.

Notre Dame is expected to host another large group of visitors for the 2015 edition of the rivalry game, and the talent level has the potential to be just as outstanding.

As of early Tuesday, the Irish are scheduled to host 15 official visitors, but that number has the potential to grow should Farmington Hills (Mich.) four-star defensive end and Alabama commit Khalid Kareem make his way to campus. The list of visitors includes: Ann Arbor (Mich.) Pioneer five-star linebacker Daelin Hayes, who decommitted from USC on Sunday, Corona (Calif.) Centennial four-star wide receiver Javon McKinley, who is a top target on offense, and Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) three-star safety Devin Studstill, who remains a priority for the Irish.

Blue & Gold Illustrated takes a quick look at the prospects expected to be on campus for official visits.

The Big Fish

5-star LB Daelin Hayes Ann Arbor (Mich.) Skyline — Hayes was already set to visit Notre Dame, but his recent decommitment from USC only added a twist to the weekend. The stud linebacker plans to travel to campus with his mother. Rankings: The No. 3 outside linebacker in the country, the No. 13 recruit in the nation and the No. 1 prospect in Michigan.

4-star WR Javon McKinley Corona (Calif.) Centennial — McKinley will be making his third visit to South Bend since end of March. He has already seen Tennessee and Washington, and plans to see Oregon and UCLA before announcing a decision at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Rankings: The No. 18 wide receiver in the country, the No. 96 prospect in the nation, and the No. 16 recruit in California.

4-star CB Damar Hamlin Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic — Hamlin returns to Notre Dame after visiting with his family in late July. He hasn't made any public cuts, but the Irish appear to be battling Pittsburgh to land his services. Rankings: The No. 8 safety in the country, the No. 132 prospect in the nation, and the No. 4 recruit in Pennsylvania.

4-star LB Jeffrey McCulloch Houston Aldine Davis — Notre Dame needs linebackers, and McCulloch is a top target. He has been linked heavily to schools like LSU, Texas and Texas A&M, but this is his first official visit. Rankings: The No. 5 inside linebacker in the country, the No. 169 recruit in the nation and the No. 18 prospect in Texas.

4-star ATH Brandon Burton Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra — Burton is fresh off visits to Florida State and Oklahoma, but he has stated that he wants to give the Irish a look. The athlete projects as a safety in Notre Dame's system. Rankings: No. 3 athlete in the country, the No. 47 recruit in the nation and the No. 11 prospect in California.

3-star S Devin Studstill Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High — Studstill might not have the most stars next to his name, but he's viewed as an elite prospect by the Irish. The trip will mark his second to campus and first official of the process. Rankings: No. 43 athlete in the country and the No. 63 recruit in Florida.

The Others

3-star APB Deon McIntosh Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons — McIntosh is a name that hasn't been linked much to the Irish, but he'll make his way to campus for the first time. The running back is also considering West Virginia. Rankings: The No. 14 all-purpose back in the country.

3-star CB Troy Pride Greer (S.C.) High — Pride, who is committed to Virginia Tech, says he wants to keep his options open. Notre Dame evaluated him in person two-weeks ago, and then the visit was set up. Rankings: The No. 11 recruit in Virginia.

3-star CB Davonte Robinson Lexington (Ky.) Henry Clay — Robertson is committed to Kentucky, but says the only school he'll consider out of the local Wildcats is Notre Dame. He'll get his first look at the Irish this weekend. Rankings: The No. 7 recruit in Kentucky.

3-star S Ikenna Okeke Smyrna (Tenn.) High — Okeke is set to return after visiting for the Irish Invasion back in June. He also has Penn State on his short list of schools along with Stanford. Rankings: The No. 32 safety in the country and the No. 15 prospect in Tennessee.

The Commits

3-star QB Ian Book El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge — Mike Sanford's quarterback return to South Bend after flipping from Washington State in early August. He says the plan is to recruit guys like Javon McKinley. Rankings: The No. 19 pro-style quarterback in the country and No. 73 recruit in California.

3-star RB Tony Jones Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy — Jones will visit campus for the third time since making his commitment back in March. Rankings: The No. 28 running back in the country and the No. 85 prospect in Florida.

3-star WR Kevin Stepherson Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast — Stepherson, who plans to enroll early, will get his second look at South Bend after committing at the Irish Invasion. Rankings: The No. 68 wide receiver in the country and No. 58 prospect in Florida.

3-star S Jalen Elliott Chesterfield (Va.) L.C. Bird — Elliott is another kid that committed back at the Irish Invasion, but will return for his official visit. Rankings: The No. 39 safety in the country and the No. 13 recruit in Virginia.

3-star S Spencer Perry Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy — Perry had previously mentioend that he might take visits to other schools, but he recently confirmed that he's solid to the Irish and that's why he'll be in the stands. Rankings: The No. 38 safety in the country and the No. 73 recruit in Florida.

Aren't we always the ones to rag on other programs that have a bunch of players take medical scholarships to open up space?

I think most of the time our guys actually STOP playing b/c it is un-healthy correct?

Do we have exceptions? I really don't know.

Wow, a lot of talent on campus for the back end of the Defense this weekend.

Current group:
Donte Vaughn S/CB
DJ Morgan S/OLB
Spencer Perry S
Julian Love CB
Jalen Elliott S/CB

We are only looking at 1/2 more max I am assuming? Would love to add Hamlin if only 1 from remaining group. If 2, Hamlin and David Long.

What are others thoughts? Do we lose one of our current commits? Lucky, I know, is big fan of Studstill being in the mix (as is the coaching staff).

I'd remove DJ Morgan from that list only because he looks to be a bonafide linebacker or hybrid player but maybe I'm way off.

If we get two, I'd love one of: Hamlin or Long and Studstill.

Of course, I'd love to add Brandon Burton but I don't know how serious the interest is so I'm trying to keep my expectations reasonable.
