Eventually the team has to breakthrough against Virginia right?

No...our "system" does not work against their "system." It was true when Bennett was at WSU, it has been true since we joined the ACC. No reason to think it will change now.

The one good thing here is that this means we avoid UVA in the early part of the NCAA tournament.

Also if we lose we will be really well rested for the tourney, which is extremely important for a team playing four guys 35+ minutes

Do they do a preseason ACC player of the year? He might win that by a mile heading into '17-'18. There's going to be a lot of hype for Notre Dame next year if they make it to the Sweet Sixteen for a third year in a row.

Amazing how ND still won't get any respect

Including among this board. I thought they'd be down this year and instead they're finishing with in second place with one more ACC win and possibly more overall wins.

Makes no sense. He was obviously he COY. Drastically outperformed expectations.

This one I actually don't have a problem with. Pastner is the national coach of the year in my opinion. It's been shared before, but GT told him he might not win a conference game this year. They won 8. That's nuts.

There are plenty of coaches more deserving IMO. Chris Holtman would be a much better pick for COY. He's 4-0 against four of the coaches on the finalist list. He took a team that was expected to finish 6th or worse in the Big East and finished second.

I think we defiantly have a better chance to get to the finals going through UVA/FSU then duke/UNC. I know we have never beaten UVA but idk I think we could beat them if we hit our shots. Their only player is perrantes so stop him then we have a great chance

great outside shooting is needed to beat the pack line, but the most overlooked strategy is baseline drives. The post defense is often a 3/4 front on the high side and the on-the ball defense on the wing is playing, with pressure, on the low side. Driving baseline defeats that defense but it takes a good wing and great, crisp passing. I really think for ND to win, VJ has to be the guy in the corner and he has to both drive and shoot. I would then have SV on the top with Rex and MF on the wings.

I agree. We gotta try to get to the basket and if not try to draw a foul and get to the line and make our FT. We shot horribly from 3 last time we played them at home. We hopefully won't shoot that bad again against them.

And we don't even know we are even gonna play them yet( I know I know)

I couldn't agree more! UNC, Duke, Miami, and L'ville all on the other side of the bracket is awesome.

I think one ACC tournament win, and we are a lock for a 5 seed. A loss, and we're probably 50/50 for a 5 or a 6 seed.

Beat UVA/FSU and we're probably a 4 seed I imagine. Win the whole tournament, and MAYBE sneak to a 3 seed if the computer rankings get a big boost.

I would agree with that prediction. I think it would take a lot for us to get a 3 seed tho. 4 seed if we beat UVA/FSU. 5 seed lock if we beat UVA like you said

I wouldn't be shocked if GT beats Pitt and then knocks off UVA. With Okogie on the floor, anything is possible. If he happens to go off like he did against UNC and FSU...UVA won't stand a chance.

Welp, Pittsburgh beat Georgia Tech by two. So it's Pittsburgh vs Virginia tonight.

They split 1-1 in the regular season but Virginia blew them out in their last regular season game.

Go Panthers.

Not a fan of UVA hitting shots early. I've always felt like a strong shooting night carries over to the next night in these tournament settings with the confidence of shooting on a friendly/familiar rim.

This is why the 5 seed would have been preferable.

Yeah, if UVA hits 3s like this tomorrow we are screwed.
