Friendly reminder to those knocking on rebounding, we did out board Louisville.

Also, it's amazing how well Brey has done with his style of play over the years...Take this year for example, Bonzie is usually the biggest guy on the court and he's only 6'5'' and leading the acc in boards...Brey also turned Pat Connaughton 6'4'' into the teams leading rebounder.

I'm not defending is numbers, but for his style of play, it is going to be a negative trade-off...Mitigating that loss by having a larger positive trade-off has been paying off greatly for Brey...And he's been doing it by getting a lot out of smaller guys.

It's hard to build a team that has no weakness.

Pure rebounding total numbers don't tell the whole story. That Mahmoud guy on Louisville was killing us on the offensive glass in the second half IIRC. We also make such a high percentage of our own shots AND FREE THROWS that other teams defensive rebounding numbers won't be that high.

Think about how many cheap defensive rebounds normal teams will get that they don't against us.

Glad to see ND winthis road conference game...gotta be the "surprise" team along with Baylor so far. Just hope they can keep pace as the season progresses cuz there are some shortcomings that certainly will bite them (rebounding, cold shooting). Amazed how Brey seems to get so much from lesser talent.

We shot 37% last night, 25% from three on 20 attempts - doesn't get much colder than that! Then again Miami had TWELVE blocks - that will cut into your percentages. 86% free throw percentage helps. As does 6 turnovers for NS vs 13 for Miami. Seriously, 15:6 assist/turnover ratio is sick.

And our guys are talented. This is not some pack of 6'3" three point shooters who can't dunk. Put Vasturia, Farrell, Bonzi, VJ, Rex, Gibbs on just about any team out there and they are logging minutes. I'm not sure some one and done would work in Brey's system. You have to be very smart and unselfish.

I've said this before, but I think it's worth repeating. Brey does a great job and the talent he gets is good, but isn't the elite talent. The reason he has success is the kids stay in school for fours years. They grow and develop together and know what each others strengths and weaknesses are. They learn how to play as a true team. Very much like Butler or Gonzaga.

And we are 2pt underdogs for tomorrows game @VT

No prob. They keep listing the Irish as underdogs and they just keep on winning. Should be a fun matchup between Bonzie and Zach LeDay...a couple of undersized 4's that can score and board with the best of em!

Maybe after Allen hits 1 or 2 more 3's Farrell will go over the top of a ball screen.

Maybe.

I want someone to explain to me how Teddy Valentine can overturn that call. He was on the complete opposite side of the court, blocked out, and Farrell's body was blocking his way as well. There is literally no possible way he could have seen who that went out off of. We probably wouldn't have scored, but he is such a spectacle of an official.

Gibbs with back to back driving buckets to get the lead back to 11. Beachem having another uninspiring game. Torres and Pflueger have given solid minutes again along with Gibbs off the bench.

I have never seen a team blow double digit second half leads every single game. Geesh.

The one announcer is so pro Virginia Tech it is a joke.

Truthering about the obvious travel up-and-down by the VT player... complaining about literally every call against VT... unreal...

Surprised Brey din't take a TO after that almost-steal on the first inbound. That's pretty bad to not get the ball in there, could've iced the game.

It is starting to get a little pathetic how often this team gives up double digit leads. They're messing with fire and they will eventually get burned. Is it coaching? Do the players lack a killer instinct? These players are being congratulated for "tough" and "gritty" wins when in reality, they just fail to put teams away. I'm happy they won, but it almost feels like they lost.

Snapped Miami's 21 game home win streak and now snapped VT's 15 game home win streak. A win is a win regardless of how it's achieved.

They already have been - twice - but that's really irrelevant.

Basketball is a game of runs, and the way this team is configured it's not set up for consistent offense or defense (because of rebounding) for an entire game.

"Blowing leads" can just as easily be rephrased "consistently doing a good job of executing offense in the first half and then managing end game situations well."

Is it coaching? Do the players lack a killer instinct? These players are being congratulated for "tough" and "gritty" wins when in reality, they just fail to put teams away. I'm happy they won, but it almost feels like they lost.

Are you serious?

That's apparently not enough for some on here. It's not good enough that a team is drastically overperforming expectations and is 5-0 atop the hardest conference in basketball despite mediocre talent. No, we aren't winning pretty enough or something. Good grief.

Florida State is a bad matchup but if they can go 3-1 in the next four games the ACC race is about to get very interesting. That requires beating Virginia though, which Brey hasn't done since...joining the ACC?
