Thats a really big win. Miami isn't great but to get a win on the road in conference is hard. 4-0 for first time in conference play wow

I bet they beat FSU once (I don't know if they play them twice with the schedule).

They are long and really good defensively. As good as FSU is, their guards, I believe, would struggle against length and athleticism.

They are not an elite team, but they are a nightmare match-up. If they are making shots, they are an L for a lot of teams.

They'll make the tournament, absolutely. But the rebounding is a huge concern. Even more than last year. It is awesome that they're finding ways to win. But Miami looked like they were literally jumping over our players to get rebounds. How hard is it to box out!?

I agree that rebounding is always hard for us but you realize we have out rebounded pretry much everyone we have played including Lousiville who is one of the best rebounding teams in the country. I'm not too worried about the rebounding right now

Miami had won 21 in a row at home AND they're a bad style matchup for us AND we were cold shooting from the outside AND we got killed on the glass...

...and we still got a W.

I'm not sure this team has the right makeup and style to really make a tourney run but they're definitely fun to watch and surpassing preseason expectations.

They're not a tournament team

My friend and former roommate, I know you are the pessimist type, but you're high for this lol.

This is at least a Sweet 16 team. If Beachem can find his stroke, there isn't a more efficient/ dangerous offensive team in the country than ND.

Hope we're atleast competitive with FSU. They are seemingly the worst possible matchup for ND.

But they were getting out rebounded when it mattered the most (the final 10 minutes of the game). That can't happen

Wow I never noticed that. So weird. Even if you clean that thing out a million times I wouldn't dare drink anything out of it. Plus how are you allowed to bring that into the arena?

I take It you never swim in pools? Or eat salt...

Why do ya think 'sperm' smells like bleach at times... Might need to adjust the diet a bit if so but chlorine is the smell and salt the ingredient.

By the way where tf is Elijah Burns I mean he can't be worse than Geben.

What could Elijah Burns bring to this team, and at the expense of what player? Geben only played 15 minutes and had 6 points, 3 boards, and an assist.

If anything, I would have liked to see him play more.

I take it you never took chemistry? Sodium hypochlorite is a strong oxidizer and is chemically distinct from sodium chloride, in the same way that the carbon in cyanide is distinct from the carbon in the food that you eat. There's a reason the bottle says that you shouldn't reuse it.

Strong win tonight. Keep finding a way is huge in this league. FT and a/to is what you get at the expense of rebounding. FT were the difference tonight. IRISH made them, Miami didn't not.

Thanks for the tip. I've never stuck my nose close enough to know.

Glad to see ND winthis road conference game...gotta be the "surprise" team along with Baylor so far. Just hope they can keep pace as the season progresses cuz there are some shortcomings that certainly will bite them (rebounding, cold shooting). Amazed how Brey seems to get so much from lesser talent.

Rex got called for a foul trying to box out - this is one of the better rebounding and defensive teams Brey has had (admittedly low hurdle). Bonzi leads the league in double-doubles. For our size, this team rebounds exceptionally well.

Miami had about a dozen blocked shots - they are so damn lanky and athletic our guys had a hard time driving effectively - couldn't draw fouls as well as normal - especially Farrell. Yet we still grind it out. What are we, four games in a row Steve scores tough buckets in the final minute? Him and Farrell are X factors - straight up gamers that play best when the lights are brightest. The rest aren't any slouches in crunch time either but those two are on an elite level competitively.

Vitale was pumping up our team free throw percentage as on pace for best EVER. That bodes well for tight games and is a skill factor, not luck.

Grinding out these types of wins are what get you a 3-4 seed instead of a 6-8 seed (like we usually do). Especially coming off of two good NCAA runs we have to be on the verge of positive vig in the selection process. Program has to start getting respect.

We shot 37% last night, 25% from three on 20 attempts - doesn't get much colder than that! Then again Miami had TWELVE blocks - that will cut into your percentages. 86% free throw percentage helps. As does 6 turnovers for NS vs 13 for Miami. Seriously, 15:6 assist/turnover ratio is sick.

And our guys are talented. This is not some pack of 6'3" three point shooters who can't dunk. Put Vasturia, Farrell, Bonzi, VJ, Rex, Gibbs on just about any team out there and they are logging minutes. I'm not sure some one and done would work in Brey's system. You have to be very smart and unselfish.

This team will finish in the top 4 in the ACC.

However, even though we have many traits you want in a tournament team (low turnovers, great FT percentage, lethal 3pt shooters), I think we are a prime candidate for an early exit due to the fact that we can go cold for long stretches in the second half and we give up a lot of offensive rebounds. The stats may indicate that we rebound well but if you watch the games we give up easy offensive rebounds all the time at the worst times.

I also worry about our bench. We need Matt Ryan or Pflueger to get hot from 3 in the tournament if we are going to make any kind of big run.

I disagree in the fact we need Ryan and pflueger to get hot from 3. We are scoring in other spots then just 3s. Also our defense is the best we have had in a long time and its been carrying us. We really don't go on cold stretches other then last night. We usually get a good shot off every time down the floor. Also we have confidence to finish these games off. We have senior leadership to take us far and we are winning games on the road. We are 2-0 on the road the rest of the ACC is 6-21 on the road so far in league play so.
And when you lead the nation in ast to TO ratio and FT % that screams run in the NCAA tourney.

Just realized 17 games into the season they've only played 2 true road games. But with that being said I remember past seasons when they'd be unstoppable at home and horrendous on the road. So if these past two road games are any indication of future success on the season. I'll take it.

Our perimeter defense is great. I don't think our interior defense is all that good. I think teams also will figure out that you don't beat us by chucking threes. The will pound it inside and crash the glass. I think a team with team size like UNC will be tough to beat.

Florida St. and UNC will tell me a lot about this team's chances in the tournament. Win one of those games and I will feel much more confident.

Oh I agree 100% on the fact our interior defense is not great. And your right the game against FSU especially away will tell us a lot about how far we can really go.
I mean we had Purdue on the ropes when we played at their home. We should have won that no doubt but we did play them very well in the first half. After giving away the 2 games against nova and Purdue I think team has find its groove in the second half and has been finishing games strong

Purdue was a neutral court. Was a pretty bad loss considering how much we were up.

This has been the case forever, yet Brey somehow neutralizes this against teams like UNC very effectively.

ND at VA Tech tomorrow at 2:00 on ACC Network.

VA Tech has won their last two at home....beat Cuse and Duke.

I watched ~ 5 ND games this year. If they had one more legitimate big to help defend and rebound, they'd be a top 4 team IMO.

Ya they shoot really well at home. They are pretty bad away from home but at home they are good. I think this matchup is way better then Miami just was cause their not as lengthy.

We've needed another big for 10 years now and we never get one and ya I agree if we had another good post player there's no telling how far we could go

Put Auguste on this team and we're easy top ten. No clue why he can't land a decent 5.

I agree. I said that up quote above after the Purdue loss. I think we'd be an actual title contender with Auguste on this team....and probably undefeated.....

Friendly reminder to those knocking on rebounding, we did out board Louisville.

Also, it's amazing how well Brey has done with his style of play over the years...Take this year for example, Bonzie is usually the biggest guy on the court and he's only 6'5'' and leading the acc in boards...Brey also turned Pat Connaughton 6'4'' into the teams leading rebounder.

I'm not defending is numbers, but for his style of play, it is going to be a negative trade-off...Mitigating that loss by having a larger positive trade-off has been paying off greatly for Brey...And he's been doing it by getting a lot out of smaller guys.

It's hard to build a team that has no weakness.
