Vast just took the dumbest shoot I have seen in basketball in a long time.

Up hill battle now. Not the same team as the first half.

If this is in South Bend, we're up 10.

Hart has gotten some bullshit calls on drives, and literally holds EVERY play when they switch on Colson. It's not even questionable. He puts an arm around him.

Great game so far by ND. Officials have completely taken away the ability to defend Hart.

The last 6 of his points he pretty much went up the lane unopposed.

Geben has the athletic ability that a tree does.

Than a dumb shot by Farrell.

Freaking VJ go sit on the bench.

The bad thing about basketball is it is a sissy sport. Let me bump you while in the air and it's the other persons fault.

Kentucky 2015 flashbacks...let's hold the ball for 20 seconds and take a horrible shot.

And yes, that they have 3x the FTs we have is hilarious.

Brey needs to learn how to grumble about the officiating too. It changed the game, even that is not an "excuse" for losing/poor play.

18-6 FT attempts in favor of Nova.

Did somebody forget to tell the refs that we're in a conference for basketball?

And before that, he had 2 bullshit and 1's that were comical. I'm not an official conspiracy theory guy, but it's been bad in the second half. For a team that switches every screen, it's damn near impossible, against high level competition, to not be in the bonus with a minute left.

EDIT: And go back and watch Vasturia's drives to the hoop compared to the contact Hart got to get him to the foul line.

VJ didn't show up to play today. Wasn't putting in any effort offensively, missed shots, terrible rebounding. Would have won if he even had an average game.

Game over. Better team did not win.

Very salty and rightfully so. Those refs were beyond shameful, but Hart is a warrior among men.

That's Villanova we're playing. That isn't losing/poor play. That was pretty good play against a team that had a top 10 player that could do whatever he wanted on both ends without repercussion. We didn't play bad. We didn't play good enough. And we didn't get much help.

You play that at a true neutral site or at ND, we win that game.

I think everyone minus Beachem, played more than good enough to smoke Villanova. He needed to step up and start making some shots and he was ice cold all game.

Still can't get over the fact that Nova had nearly 3x the amount of trips to the line as we did. That is about as blatant an officiating bias as you can get.

A LOT of soft free throws for the Wildcats. The fact that we only shot 6 is the difference because they started grabbing and boddying is up in the second half and we got no calls. Just a very inconsistent job of calling contact when they were given free throws for our guys daring to just be near Hart.

The bigger picture takeaway from this game is that the program is in a very good place. Recruiting has picked up, the team looks pretty good even though this is a "down" year, players seem to be developing, etc. A contrast to a certain other ND program, as many have noted.

Now if we can just get working on that fancy practice facility (like Villanova has)...I think we can definitely start signing a top 20 class each year. And then we can really take off.

This. It feels great to watch ND play the #1 team in the country, and look like the better team on the floor, particularly when this was supposed to be a bad year.

Also, I feel like every year is supposed to be a down year lately... and Brey has answered the call. Let's hope for a strong run in the ACC.

Lost 2 line bets with current Nova students because of those free throws at the end. God I hate that school.

Completely agree.

Next week will give us a sneak peak into our game against North Carolina. I think we beat Purdue. I think we'll give up a bunch in the post, but I think we'll be able to outscore them. Let's not pretend that Villanova, as a #1, wasn't a perfect match-up for us. Next weeks game won't be near as fun to watch, but I think we win. UNC has much better perimeter players, but it should show us a bit of how we're going to play them.

I will say this, because it brings me joy, how wrong sites like NDNation were on Matt Farrell. I'm sure they've cleared their tracks, they like to nuke boards because of how foolish they look, but it used to make comments about Farrell as if he was a DIII player. They were just flat-out terrible to him, and played it off as gospel.

He is our best offensive player. I know, blasphemy with Colson on the team, but Colson depends on match-ups. Farrell took a team full of guards in Villanova and did what he wanted with them before the tweaked ankle. He was unbelievable (and didn't get every touch foul like Hart did).

We are really, really good. I just question how we will match up with the upper 2 teams in the ACC.

This ND team just doesn't have the athleticism nor the dependable big man down low it's had. I'm afraid they are just a really good mid-major type team like Wichita was or a typical Butler team. Don't take that as a slight, cuz it's not.

Nova's not the perfect match up for ND either. They're better and bigger athletically and ran 8 guys at you that won a NC last year. More athletic, size and experience is tough to overcome.

Purdue is a 50-50. Their guards have been playing much better than I though they would. Freshman Carson Edwards is for real. Colson and Swanigan are going to be fun to watch.

Huh?

Of the top 25, how many have a "dependable" big man? No, Louisville does not have a dependable big. I count 11, and that's giving Zona the benefit of the doubt that the big Euro guy they have should be considered a true big. The team we played, the team that won the national championship last year, is no better than us, and lost a leader guard, who was barely above average, and a post who was a product of guard play.

The comment about Nova having more Size, experience, and athleticism is just flat out wrong.

Phil Booth didn't play. How exactly are they bigger and ran 8 guys at us from the national championship team? Please explain, because I don't consider running a guy who played 8 minutes a game at us a integral cog in a national championship team. I can take opinions, but that sounds like an embellished stat (especially looking at college-reference.com) to try to back up you opinion.

If you watched Mikil Bridges get a tip put-back and assume he's more athletic than VJ, ok, whatever, but he's not. He's not listed as tall, and I don't think he's as athletic. Jalen Brunson is a guard Bonzie Colson, he's not athletic, he's a ball player. Josh Hart was great. But they didn't out athletic us. They outplayed us in the second half. HUGE difference. If that was the case, that some arbitrary notion of athleticisim wins games (not to mention the incorrect notion that they had more experience than us) that first sweet 16 team was a fluke.

We had guys playing that had more MPG than them (according to sports-reference.com), had more size at most positions. If you want to argue Brunson is a better athlete than Farrell, ok, I guess. Hart than Vasturia? No question. Other than that?

And Purdue - Carsen Edwards is the last of our worries. He scored 3 against Nova and 9 against Louisville. He put up 21 against Auburn, which is, well, awful defensively. I think he's averaging less than 20 mpg.

Edit: If Edwards has to score 20, I like where we're at. Carsen, not Vince.

The Farrell critics (and I was one) were not "wrong" about Matt Farrell. He flat out was bad last year. Did not look like he belonged on a D-I team. Anyone who thought he would be this good this year was basing it off nothing but homerism.

The kid has been balling out and I'm glad he turned things around so much.

Assuming you mean that he was flat out bad early last year. Starting with the NC State game, he way very very good.
