Kizer's release has that "Overarm" kind of motion to get spin on the ball, i would wonder how successful he could be with that motion when on the run/rolling out of the pocket.

Kizer looks much improved, however still a tad bit slower than Golson and Zaire......Golson makes it look so effortlessly, and Malik isn't far behind in that aspect.

I'm so hoping Max is able to put it all together......his hips are amazing!!! Cole Luke is probably the only one in the film who's hips are equal if not just a bit better.....that cannot be taught.

I just think he was saying that we played a lot of freshmen last year, but expect to see a lot more of the 2014 class that redshirted last year. Sounds like top to bottom it really is one of the better classes we've brought in.

Thanks. Having some depth this year is going to be nice and I think we are going to see some serious competition at a few spots...which is great.

Don't think he looked that bad when he rolled in last summer . . .

Kizer always had that baseball-centric throwing motion; but I don't see his success at the high school level not translating. I saw him throw the ball between 60 and 65 yards in the air, on a roll-out, on target, for a TD. And linemen are not going to be batting many of his balls. I don't know how soon his career is going to progress, but I am pretty confident he will end up dangerously good before he is done.

Question...in a read option based offense, I would think it would be a good idea to put the QBs through several of the RB drills since they will be carrying the ball so much. Especially in Golsons case. I realize you only have so much time in a practice but I would think such an important piece you would want extensive ball control.

Anyone see any of this?

Golson hasn't shown that he can effectively run the read option up to this point, and I don't think that will change for 2015. It just seems some QBs are able to grasp the concept and others can't. Zaire is the first QB under Kelly that I've seen that can correctly read the edge most of the time and make the right read on where the ball needs to go. Golson could probably benefit from those RB drills though given that a lot of fumbles have occurred when he was scrambling and not always when he was in the pocket.

I think most QBs can be taught to run the read option but it comes down to mental make-up. Golson is more worried about the impact if he keeps it, than simply running the play to perfection. At least that's what it looks like in the games, he's simply not built to take the hits that Zaire looks comfortable taking.

Look at that LSU scramble on 4 & ?? (9 or 13), Golson (most likely) would've headed for the sideline and reached the ball hoping to get the first down. Zaire tucked and took off and lowered his shoulder into whoever was in his way. The LSU defense wasn't expecting a QB to be so forceful with contact. That's what it takes for a good read option QB, fearlessness. (even though this play wasn't the read option, ha ha)

I like Golson and think he can still execute the passing plays to a higher degree, at least from what we've seen thus far, but if we are grading strictly on the read option, Golson doesn't compare.

Kelly's is a pass-first offense, with just enough zone read to keep the defense on their heels.

Notre Dame will begin its spring football session with its first practice on March 18. Head coach Brian Kelly will hold a press conference the day before to kick off the spring.
The spring football schedule includes 14 practices and the Blue-Gold Game, which will be played at the LaBar Practice Complex on April 18.
