I don't think he's that, granted I wasn't there. If he's better than CJ Sanders or Will Fuller or CJ Prosise, he would've had to have some offers right? I mean it'd be one of the biggest underdog stories if he were to steal a starting spot from one of our other players.

Not at all. Happens way more than you think. USC walk-on Clay Matthews (yes, steroids helped) not only got onto the field, but was a dominant force on one of the great teams of all-time, on a team littered with 4 and 5 stars. Our very own walk-on, Joe Schmidt, is starting ahead of several highly ranked players. There's stories like this all over the nation.

And I'm not saying this year, I said his senior year. Not sure about Grahambo, but I'd venture to say he didn't mean this year as well.

Finke and Clay Matthews in the same post. Yikes.

I believe JJ Watts walked onto Wisconsin after he left CMU where he was on scholarship.

With news of Crawford's injury, I say we wrap the rest of the players in bubble wrap until a few days before Texas, no italics.

Just came accross this in the Sports Illustrated preview issue. It's from the "opposing coach's take" on our team this year.

If quarterback Malik Zaire is accepted by teammates, and there isn't any lingering effect from Everett Golson's leaving, that will be key. Golson was probably a better runner, but Malik is a better passer....

Lolwut? I hope whoever made that comment is an ACTUAL opposing coach of a team we face this season.

It was probably Brady Hoke.

I saw some ridiculous reactions to the Crawford injury yesterday...

"Fire the strength staff!"

"Rip up the turf!"

"What in the hell is going on over there!"

Life has risks. Football has more risks than everyday life. People get hurt unfortunately in a violent game. I feel for Shaun, but I'm very glad that he's young and will rehab like a wild man I'm sure w/ great help from the staff and have a great career.

The internet has done a lot of good, but being able to see and read people's responses to issues when they have no idea what they are talking about may be my number one gear grinder currently. Really rustles my jimmies.

That's why I love the sanity brought here by the majority of posters....so, Thanks guys!

Danny Kanell on the SVP show today said he visited ND and OSU on back to back days for practice and went on to say that ND isn't even in regards to the size or athleticism of OSU. Welp. I know OSU is better, but he took a strong stance saying we're not even in their league.

I actually don't like Danny Kannel much, he just seems too fake for some reason. But he was high on the Irish last year before our collapse at the end of the season.

He is probably overblowing it to a large degree. However, I doubt anyone could walk away from their practice not impressed by their quarterbacks. Second, I would imagine their defensive line talent blows ours out at this point. Obviously their skill talent is pretty impressive with guys like Zeke as well.

Who cares.

Go Irish, beat Texas

be that as it may.....me being th ultimate pesimist...i think he is right

I will definitely not be taking my cue from that guy. I'd more concerned if he said we were the best team in the nation. Guy is an Fing idiot. Now, if we are going to look at pundits predictions for our feelings, lets go with Herbstreit who actually has some dignity to his career. He thinks that we're going to be alright.

Also, why do we have to be as good as the #1 team in the country right now anyways? Does anybody measure success with how good you look after a few weeks of training camp?

I posted this previously but are everybody's expectations that its win a championship or bust this year? I didn't view it that way 2 months ago and haven't seen anything to change my mind, so I don't

Nothing other than being better than OSU will justify success?

Well if so, thats on you and if it doesn't happen there is no reason to freak out as 10-11 wins will make me happy. Then Kanell saying we're not as good as OSU will be true and I won't give a flying F^C$.

This isn't directed just at you, I just see this going down a path that doesn't end well. Even though I think the season will be good.

I'm mentally preparing myself for a 9-3 regular season.

A young QB that's only been tested once; a defense that is an unknown against spread, no-huddle teams; a key piece of front-7 depth already gone; a brutal 7-game stretch to open the season.

If the defense improves and stays healthy, and Zaire simply protects the football, this team can win 11, maybe even 12 with some good bounces along the way.

If BVG struggles to Coach against the spread, injuries mount up, or Malik throws the ball 30+ times in a bunch of games, this team will bottom out at 8 wins again.

I hope for at least 9 with obvious signs of improvement late in the year, because this team is still very young. I'd love to see 10 or 11 in the regular season with a New Years 6 bowl win, but I won't be devastated and calling for BK's head if they reach 9 and then win their 10th in a bowl.

I'll be restless if they win 8 and then a bowl to make it 9.

I'll be joining the mob for anything less.

This team is young and very talented. Anything could happen lol.

"We're not that young".

I don't see how we're considered a young team. We have returning starters at all 3 wide out positions, we return 3/4 starters on OL, a 2/3 year starter at RB.

Our DL was set to be all SR's besides Rochell, who's a returning starter. Now that Jarron got hurt, we're down to two SR starting DL with 3 returning starters.

At LB, we have a 5th year starter in the middle, a 2nd year JR at Will, and Jaylon, going into his 3rd year as the starter.

The starting 2ndary could very well be gone after this year. I just don't buy that we're young. No excuses this year unless we keep tearing ACL's every week.

I mean young in the sense that this team could return 14 or 15 starters again next year. The number obviously decreases if guys like Fuller and Redfield leave early (I think Jaylon is gone either way), but even then, with all of the freshmen and sophomores involved even on a "veteran" team, there is plenty that will return in '16.

We're not young for the most part. We're deep and athletic. The schedule is challenging but manageable. "Playoff or bust" is a little ambitious but I think 10 wins is a reasonable expectation. Win one more and we're in the mix. But of course we could also go 8-5. It's college football.
