2015 PRE SEASON CAMP THREAD

Man, I used to argue against these types of things all the time. People just don't get it. I remember being vilified before the 2013 season when a member posted that ND had 8 elite defensive linemen (OLB's like Shembo were included), and I disagreed. Guys like Ishaq, Springman, and Schwenke were all considered "elite" by many on this board, and I was a jerk for arguing vehemently against that line of thinking lol. Another time a member got PISSED at me bc I disagreed that ND was the clear leader for a kid who ended up at Auburn (as I predicted). I mean, everywhere there were signs that ND wasn't even in his top 5 really, but because he told a ND reporter that he really liked ND, that meant we were his leader lol. There's all kinds of examples.

I've learned to let it roll now (except for NDSean...but he's a special case). It's great to be positive, but the problem is when you argue against it in the manner that I do (blunt...and not the NDOM 'blunt'), people get extremely defensive and personal, and the actual topic gets lost in the debate. Better for me just to let the overly exuberant be overly exuberant.

Because you haven't learned anything. The statement was potentially eight elite defensive linemen.

Not that we had eight elite lineman at the time. You brought back my quote to "prove" your point, and sure enough, it was stated exactly as I intended.

And since most of those guys made it to the NFL, some on the first day, (the ones that didn't have to retire early for health reasons), it works for me! Eliminate a hernia or two and preserve a redshirt instead of blowing it because some freshman can't manage his marbles . . . Oh, and weren't you the one who championed so hard for Chocolate, when some others thought Jones was the boss of big? Check your language out "olier than thou!"

The only thing that remains to discuss is whether you are just so hypocritical, that stupid, a major mouth-breather, or so small that you actually think that because you want to bring someone down to your size, twisting another's words and then attributing false meaning to them is appropriate or in any way ethical behavior. Maybe you were just raised for shiit? Who knows? But I thought you were going to cut out the smarmy stuff.

And believe me, bringing up something from 2012 is about as small and smarmy as anyone can get!

While I think he'll be a fantastic return man, I'm not sure I like the idea of our AA receiver taking hits from guys running at full speed five or six times a game.

Tim Brown and The Rocket managed.

Well, let's just call an end to that war before it gets started, shall we?

I don't feel like seeing Bogs vs Hollywood heat up again this close to the season... don't want to lose anybody right before the games start.

Bogs, you are the only person today who has taken personal shots and insults at somebody else. You may not like people disagreeing with you but nobody has insulted you. You should be better than that.

To be fair, Hollywood dug up the example and went into great detail, and I know exactly why he did it lol. He could have just said "some people don't like it when you're realistic and temper expectations," but he called out the past issue anyway, knowing very well Bogs would see it.

I say lets nip it in the bud now before it pops off again lol.

For the record, I never even mentioned his name, and I doubt more than 5 people even knew he was the one who made that asinine comment that he still somehow tries to defend.

And second, wth is his problem? He's going off on several different posters, making it personal, calling people "stupid" and "mouthbreathers", because what, they didn't agree with him? And again, i didn't mention him by name to save him from embarrassment. That didn't work lol.

Seriously, no idea why he is so angry today. But don't worry about me, I won't respond to his insane rants. I got off his lawn quite a while ago...

I just don't want to see this turn into another cool-down period for you guys, that's all.

Everyone has spoken their peace (some more aggressively than others), now lets move on to new things. Like Koon being back!

I asked yesterday about Yoon and Brent, and I saw a tweet earlier that Yoon is perfect for field goals so far, and it broke it down as under 40, 41-49, and 50 +. I can't remember the breakdown, but it was at least 15 total FGs.

I believe it was 4 for 4 from 40-49, 9 for 9 from 30-39, and 19 for 19 overall

We have not had this kind of leadership on a Notre Dame team since

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Kelly says team has great competition. Best he has had at Notre Dame.</p>— Irish Sports Daily (@ISDUpdate) <a href="https://twitter.com/ISDUpdate/status/631874983258652673">August 13, 2015</a></blockquote>

The title is what I said. For those that don't understand that talking about one facet, leadership, is different than comparing two teams head to head, I feel bad.

The reason I displayed so much ire at what intended distractors twisted my word into, is because I thought I had a good point : This year's team shows much higher level leadership aptitude that did '12's. Were NM, KLM, and MT mountains when it came to leadership? Hail yes!

But beyond that?

And then it occurred to me, beyond a couple of manufactured "position battles" there wasn't much with the '12 team. This year right tackle, left guard, running back, slot, wide receiver and tight end reps are all in the air. On defense what a shift in linebacker depth charts, and with the freshmen, are you certain of what we will see in the secondary, or at defensive tackle?

So quote me. Go ahead and put your own rankings in against mine :

12 15
QB <
RB =
TE ??
WR <
OL <

DL = or maybe <
LB Manti < Jaylon and Joe
LB other <
DB's <
Staff <<<<

Feel free to reply. This is my opinion, and it is no more correct or less correct than anyone else's. I look forward to a civil discussion!

PS. So for clarity, I also feel the following is true :

Preseason leadership '15 > '12
Competition in preseason camp - true position battles '15> '12

I see where this is headed...Yoon is now Koon's guy...and I am personally fine with that. I look forward to a long and prosperous career from Mr. Yoon.

We all know the squad could use some diversity. I hope Yoon's been doing his situps.

My personal Koolaid reasons despite the few numbers of practices and no actual games: OK, this is irrational and intuitive so let me have my insanity here, but at no time during Coach's tenure thus far have I believed that we have had a championship quality quarterback. The ONLY one of Kelly's quarterbacks who I caught the cold-eyed don't-shake aura from was Tommy [most of the time] and we know why Tommy was not quite a championship QB. I believe that our QB deficits alone have cost Kelly double-digit wins per season every year of the non-2012 years. So, like it or not other IErs, I believe that if Coach had come in with a very good QB [not even an All-American] he would have won 10+ games every season, maybe even last year with the defensive injury slaughter, which Coach and BVG said was the worst they'd ever seen.

So, I believe that I have a double-digit-win coach every year, who hasn't had a QB to accomplish that. This year all the other pieces are in place --- almost every one already proven beyond irrational Koolaid. And I'm looking at Zaire. And he has THAT look.

If Zaire has a top-twenty QB season this year featuring solid offensive ball management, we will likely win 11-12 regular season games, and probably be in the playoffs. If Zaire is another of our flawed QBs we've lately had [especially in terms of ball management], Kelly and BVGs systems will win 9 again.

Please someone educate me on this as I could be way off...

Florida's team with Tebow 2008 NC team. Spread offense, run 64% of the time. Threw with 1v1 coverage to wide open receivers because everyone including the water boy was focused on Tebow running the ball. 192 passes/298 attempts. 176 rushes (tebow) of 527 total team rushes.

ND OL 2016 vs FL OL 2008?

NDs defense 2016 vs FL defense 2008? FL was 4th in nation 12.9 PPG. Gonna be tough to come close to that.

Seems ND by base is very similar to FL 2008 in offense. Defense may be another matter but also keep in mind FL played in a run dominated SEC.

I don't think it's a crazy comparison at all. Hell, I jokingly call Zaire the "black Tebow".

Let us all take a knee and pray that by January Tebow will be known as The White Zaire.

Stay healthy Malik!
