It's very unlikely that we lose Tillery. LSU hasn't really gained any ground on him, and he seems locked in at this point. It's not like LSU was world-beaters this year either, and that's with them entirely healthy.

Yeah. I kind of feel like if Tillery was going to flip he'd have done it by now, and that he's the sort of kid who's inclined to buy what we're selling. But we'll see. Things can get hinky as decision day approaches. Good for us that he's an EE.
As for our current commits, I'd be most worried about Coney flipping. He's a natural first phone call for whoever Florida hires. I guess the new Michigan coach could make a run at Bilal or Crawford, but that seems less likely. Always wary on quick flips like Wimbush. Hopefully he sticks, and no reason to think he won't, really. And there always seems to be someone who doesn't make the grades, but most of our recruits have been on board for awhile, like before the fall semester, and that always helps. This appears to be a pretty well tied-down class. Famous last words, I know.
Re: Additions, Jones would be great. He'd have a shot to come in and play next year. I'd made the same case to our safety candidates. We badly need another RB, and if it's not Soso hopefully it's one of the others we've been offering lately. Get Jones, one of the safeties and a decent RB, wrap it up with some other flexible skill guy, and not bad at all.

Coney would be the biggest potential flip IMO, just watching his press conference as his commitment i didn't think he sounded really 100% sure of himself.

Coney is an EE too, isn't he?

I think he and Tillery are on campus as ND students in January. I'm not too worried. Sure he could pull an Anzalone and if that happens then at least the staff has two months to work on Kirkland.

Notre Dame made another safety offer Tuesday evening.

Louisville commit Darius Smith reported on his Twitter that the Irish extended a scholarship.

The 6-foot-2, 198-pound Smith has been committed to Louisville since Halloween and tells 247Sports he "honestly" doesn't know where Notre Dame stands moving forward.

"It's all a blur right now," Smith said. "It happened so fast and unexpectedly."

The Florence (Ala.) High standout also holds offers from the likes of Auburn, Kentucky, Miami, Mississippi State, Missouri and Tennessee.

247Sports ranks Smith as the nation's No. 32 outside linebacker.

I love it when you present uneducated and unqualified opinion as fact.

I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if we land Soso, but I don't know where we turn if he goes somewhere else. The good thing is that the 2 primary competitors (UCLA and A&M) aren't exactly killing it right now, and ND's depth chart at RB is much more manageable whereas with UCLA already has 2 RB recruits and A&M already has a loaded backfield.

He's going to UCLA, unless something drastically changes between now and his decision date.

Oh Koon, didn't get tired of me taking your vBucks last year with Yeargin?

I'm not sure Tillery is gone (far from it, just gut feeling it might be a late cycle defection if Miles sticks at LSU and we get blown out in our bowl game... and I also don't think the staff cares that much because the focus right now is back end players) but 10:1 odds is crazy good, so I'll take it.

Someone still owes me all their vBucks for USC beating ND but I forget who.

Never. Deal! 1 billion to you if he doesn't sign with ND, 100 million to me when he does.

If Kelly figures out a way to make JuCos work at ND, I'll be singing his praises. Will be yet another obstacle to sustained success he's overcome.

Jeremy Smith. Alford working hard on him. He is coming for the Banquet. If he chooses ND they want him to enroll in January.

Right, that would be pretty amazing. Some wonder why its seems certain teams never have dips in talent levels, well its because they can recruit JUCO's who are usually ready day 1. Big time progress if it can work and a great way to fill talent gaps. With all that said, would you agree its only special situations?

Where would he rank from a talent perspective? Is he ahead of a Jones?

Don't know too much about him so I can't give that informed of an opinion, maybe somebody else has more. However, from the brief part of the film I watched he moves well for a guy with quite a large trunk. Has nice feet and can make some nice cuts. With that said I'd put it as Jones 1A and Smith 1B from the standpoint that I think Jones has an extra level of explosiveness. Plus you get that extra year in the system.

Absolutely. It will probably be comparable to 5Y transfers--rare, but occasionally clutch (like Riggs this season). But it's another aisle we can shop down to help address our perpetual depth issues.

TJ in regards to a question about the S offer to the Louisville commit.

It is like BK and BVG have concluded the clear and obvious need for even more DBs -- starting with Safeties who can make an impact either up or on the back-end, though another top CB would be nice (or more), too -- to properly run the preferred schemes and given the way the roster is shaping up going forward. What happened this year across the DB group, especially with attrition, simply cannot happen again.

DBs, like RBs, are the remaining priorities for this class. This kid is a BVG type of prospect from SEC territory, who had an outstanding SR season.

Remaining needs per TJ,

That just about sums it up w/r/t remaining needs and wants for this class. We can take 4 more in all likelihood, and possibly a fifth or even a sixth depending on fifth-year decisions. That list probably shrank over the course of the season.

We need at least 1 RB, preferably 2.
We need at least 1 Safety, preferably 2 DBs total (1 S and 1 CB or CB/S).
We need 1 Receiver, whether a Flex TE (Jones) or a bigger WR (Cager, ESB, etc).

We would like another DL, preferably a DE but a very good DT or Combo guy would be fine.
We would like another Offensive Skill Athlete, whether another RB, APB or WR.

I would definitely prefer any quality D-Lineman over a skill position player

Yea, I'm still holding out hope we can at least get Wilkins or Wicker to OV. I'd love to at least get a shot with one or both of those guys.
