We're taking two CB's this cycle since we only took 1 last year. This doesn't have anything to do with Crawford, if thats what you're implying.<iframe style="display: none;" allowtransparency="true" scrolling="no" id="rufous-sandbox" frameborder="0"></iframe>

well kind of was.....Michigan offers him yesterday, crawford was thought to be calling and decommitting yesterday but doesn't and then today we send 2 assistants...could be coincidental but maybe more...such as turning the heat up on 1 to get the other(indirectly but done w/ this intention)...instead of pressuring crawford on visit, we put more emphasis on others to make the other make their move...maybe not in a few days but in near future...maybe im not explaining my thoughts well but in my head it seems totally legit

I understand your thought process but I'm not drawing that parallel. We'd be visiting Ordway if Shaun committed on Sunday. For a little insight below is what TJ had to say today about the CB position regarding recruiting.

CB is a focal point for this class, yes. Want 2-3 top guys and the staff feels pretty good overall here.

This regarding how the staff classifies Shaun.
As of now, and almost certainly throughout, they'd consider him one of those target slots fulfilled. He could play some SlotWR down the road if necessary or desired in spots, too.

That's a huge jump for Town, especially over Rosen. Has he been killing it at camps or something?

NOPE and hasn't earned an elite 11 selection either that the other qb's ranked behind him have...such as rosen, white, barnett etc...this is one of the reasons i think this was one of the worst rankings i have seen EVER

Yeah I don't get his slot, or these rankings at all. I just don't see the big deal about Town.

Does someone have the capability to update the first post? This is a very useful thread every year, especially for the guys who don't follow recruiting as close as others. I don't think an relatively inactive poster should be taking the lead.

Looks like a great CB prospect, and I'd like to see an offer if for no other reason than to keep him out of Stanford's secondary.

I don't see a cornerback in his film. Now he may have developed some cornerback abilities, but they aren't really present in his film. One minute in I thought he played more like a linebacker or safety maybe, then of course you can see that his primary position is a linebacker spot for his team (at least in his highlights).

I didn't have time to watch his film and was going more off his measurables and rating. How many safety spots are we looking to fill with this class? might be a bit small for LB at the next level

I agree. Hard to see him bulking up to that size.

I also have to say that a lot of guys develop key skills late in the process, hence why they go from unheralded to elite essentially overnight. I'm guessing by his rankings though that there is just a lot that the film isn't showing me.

Unheralded? Has started since his freshman year for a very good San Diego program - St. Augustine. This summer, will be at Rivals Challenge and the Opening. Team Captain and considering Pre-Med as a Major. Legacy - grandfather played linebacker for USC and the San Diego Chargers(died tragically before first game with Bengals). Recently visited Stanford with teammates Chris Gesell OL and Quinn Seau LB. I suspect Stanford leads on a long list. If I were Kelly, I'd be asking the West Coast Coordinator a pertinent question - We offer the kid from Bishop Gorman to play in our secondary, and not this guy?

Fertita was recruited for a specific role. One that this kid won't or wouldn't play.

With the bigger, physical receivers, Buncom could play press-man cover. At safety, he would be an aggressive, wrap tackler. With Fertita(sp), what is this specific role you reference?

I think Lucci is talking about him being specialized for covering the slot man. I think I read something regarding that not too long ago. It is limited in duty and some higher regarded players may not be interested. I think Fertitta is gonna be great here. Though smaller I could see him having a similar impact like a Sunseri. Really sticks his nose in there and not afraid of contact at all.

Correct, the reality is some guys aren't willing to come in and be used only in sub packages and on ST's. That doesn't mean Buncom doesn't deserve an offer, its just that they are two different players and situations.

You must not be a keen reader. I was not referring to Buncom as unheralded but rather saying that players develop certain elite skills late which can in turn make THEM become stars overnight. I've actually mentioned twice how there must simply be something about him that isn't in the film because of his offers and ratings.

Thanks again though, Wikipedia.

I forgot to answer this question.

We might add one more safety because of Nick being more of a situational player.
