So have we completely given up hope for the 3 Miami RBs who were considering ND? And Soso is a no-no?

RB and safety recruiting hasn't been very friendly this cycle.

I kind of get where you are coming from with the Safety recruiting as they are the highest rated prospects but we do have 3 committed currently, so it can't have been that unfriendly.

I'm not sure where you got that from but absolutely not. Williams is on track to visit and we are right in the thick of it for Cronkite. Just because we are exploring other options doesn't mean that the entire board has gone to shit. The staff realizes that they consistently need back up options. Could we miss on the Florida RB's, of course but its not a done deal at this point.

California OL committed to Duke, name leaves me at moment but I hope we checked on him if we are doing our due diligence.

Also, McGovern and Bivin with possible medical waivers coming? That's too bad if that's the case. Bivin seemed like he was gna be aonster.

Hanratty's thread is bumped saying he may be done due to concussion history. So are there three OL to go on medical? Or is there a typo in your post?

Edit: OR is the Hanratty thing, not really a thing and just a rumor?

I mentioned McGovern and Bivin as they were mentioned else where in this thread or one of the others. Is Hanratty one of the two or is he a third is beyond me.

Nah, we've still got a chance with Cronkite (though he could be a poor fit and I'm not sure his recruitment is going anywhere) and Dexter Williams is a question mark until he makes his visit. Could go great, could go terrible, you never know. But he's already cancelled visits a couple times.

Safety recruiting is by far the most dire, especially when you consider how unlikely it is that McKinney is part of this class due to academics.

As for OL recruiting, none of the names mentioned so far (Jurkovic, Allen, Valentine-Okeke) are likely to happen. All I can say on top of that is if we are to land an OL it's likely one already committed elsewhere that we've had a more longstanding relationship with going to earlier in the cycle. I also doubt that flip happens, but it's more probable than the other names being thrown out there.

What about Vaughn at running back?

Definitely possible. Looking at Vaughn's top 4 and scheduled visit date, it's easy to see us making a move there and landing him assuming we haven't wrapped up someone else first.

Thanks Lucky, it just seemed like these more recent offers are constantly bumped which I use as and indicator of traction and direction we are going with our class. I really hope for Williams or Cronkrite.

Is Jamabo considered gone?

Safety will be a point of failure on this defense if we don't get McKinney. He's so crucial to that secondary haul since we have no surefire recruits (Although Crawford has big time upside).

It's amazing that even a position with a glut of riches can dip into the red with a few key injuries. I expected both of them to be players for us, I'll be very disappointed if we lose Bivin and McGovern.

Safety recruiting is a mess. They need to put the press on Jennings now instead of later...

The issue isn't the press, per se, it's that Jennings has a lot of interest in playing WR instead of S and we've been recruiting him at safety. So unless we push for him at WR or he changes his mind he's going to be a tough add.

With the rumors that potentially as many as three OL could get put on medical schollies and it sounds like Tillery will start at DL, I think it's crucial they find another OL for this class. Would you agree?

Nothing confirmed, but McGovern and Bivin are mentioned in this thread and Hanratty's thread was bumped earlier today for concussion issues. I have no clue if these are just rumors though.

Note: I'm not a source here. I'm just relaying what I've seen posted throughout the IE boards today. Surprised it wasn't a bigger deal...I guess 2014 'X' of the year awards take precedent.

TJ just confirmed that one or two current OL have possible medical issues that is part of the reason they are looking at more OL.

Saw on the B/R feed that Hanratty has to undergo some sort of testing.

Is it structural like a knee or something internal and more serious?

.

someone posted about concussions...and is likely done w/ football

Concussions I think..

These are the posts I'm referring to

Hmm ok, thanks. I hadn't heard anything on McGovern - I actually heard he was coming on in terms of fighting for playing time.

Hanratty is probably done, yeah. Not sure on Bivin. Hopefully not true, because I liked him coming out of HS. He is a guy that gives us real versatility across the line.

I'm assuming TJ's confirmation on at least one OL may be Hanratty. So perhaps he's the only one, with the possibility of a second with issues as well. Three seemed crazy to me, but I saw three different names floating around and felt the need for some clarification.

No, it's not crucial. It'd be nice, but the OL is nothing like, say, S or RB in terms of dire need. For starters, true frosh OL almost never contribute, so the key is looking ahead two years.

In two years you'll likely have:
5th Year: Harrell(?)
Seniors: Elmer, McGlinchey, Montelus(?), McGovern(?), Bivin(?)
Juniors: Nelson, Bars, Mustipher, Byrne
Soph: Hoge, Rhuland

In three years, next year's class of players will be sophomores and ready to play, so you can compensate by gaps in '15 with guys from '16. So yeah... you're looking thin at tackle for the 2016 season if McGovern and Bivin were to both be out... be even then it's not exceptionally thin or dire. You've still got 3-4 bodies before you'd get to freshman.

Fair enough. At the moment, I'm just assuming the loss of Hanratty. But at the time of the post, I was under the impression that 3 OL may be done and one incomer will play DL. Regardless, that's a pretty big blow to the depth of the position. But it doesn't seem to be what's actually going on.

No, ND didn't show the love at first and he won't back out of his commitment to OSU (this is based on what I read here).

2015 Five-Star Still In Play For Notre Dame?

Chidi Valentine-Okeke has reclassified into the 2015 class and there's mutual interest between he and ND. Working on his transcripts now and they want him in to visit within the next two weeks.

#22 Overall and #2 OT for 2015 class.

247 was told if an offer comes then he will definitely visit and an offer is expected. They only potential hiccup would be academics but ND is checking in on it now.

What class was he before? If it was 2014 I have a hard time getting excited.

EDIT: Nevermind. I see he was a 2016 kid. So it seems he's probably a good student but may not hit all the course minimums ND requires.

That was from two days ago FWIW.

Important parts"

AD at school says he has heard from a lot of SEC schools, but not ND.

Has a 3.1 GPA, took the SAT once and don't think it was high enough. Is scheduled to take it 2 more times.

IMO - when scrambling to get academics in order, very small chance he visits here, much less signs.

FWIW, at 247 it sounds like this kid has handlers or is being strongly pushed in the SEC direction. Take that how you will but it wouldn't surprise me.

Won't matter where they push. For him to have all his course requirements at ND in 3 years of HS without properly planning to do so before your freshman year is practically impossible.

He may meet the bare minimums of clearing house buts that's most likely it.
