could be saving his commitment announcement until II and hopefully start a trickle with other recruits?

If you look in Taylor's thread Loy said yesterday that it he's hearing that it will be out by friday at the latest. Bare in mind that this isn't Loy making something up that may or may not have happened. Its pretty general knowledge by all the services that he gave his pledge to the staff and is waiting to announce it.

As far as the DB class goes, I would like to see us end up like this:

Crawford
Reid
Coleman/Buncom
Prentice
Nicco

The only guys that trump any of them for me is Iman Marshall and Sheffield. Any of the 5 though should really be considered a success.

Speaking of spots: I was thinking about WR spots available while reading through Newsome's thread. If ESB and Ofodile commit, that puts ND at 4 WRs for this class. How high are they willing to stretch that number, because I've heard Newsome and even Broadus are really high on the board as well?

Edit: And that would almost solidify Boykin as a TE prospect, correct?

First year we have questions about how to pare it down, not who will we (even) get, as a question!

i do as well, but i think nicco may have taken the spot that would be his position. could be wrong, but they're a similar type of player and i'm not just saying that b/c they're both white :)

I don't think that is the case at all considering Justin never got an offer. I think Justin still has to prove himself to the staff in order to get an offer as a DB. I personally believe he is more of a true CB, but we will see what happens during summer evaluations.

you may be right, but i still think that nicco's spot is a hybrid player that can walk down and support the run and maybe cover the slot from time to time, while being a big contributor on special teams.

Per TJ, question was if we like Coleman better than Reid.

No. Love Reid, too, but we're willing to wait on a decision that probably won't come until late fall at the earliest.

As suggested yesterday, the numbers now look -- for the first real time -- as though they'll push through 20, and post-spring road evals (and post-spring practice) informed the staff en masse that we probably need to "overload" at DL and DB this cycle. We have the prospects in play to do so, so we will. Recruiting here will continue until NSD.

Per Loy at SMSB, LaFluer and Ryan Brand have talked about a preferred walk-on spot

Would be a very nice QB preferred walk-on for a second QB in this class. Kid has an Elite 11 invite

This kid played my high school, he plays in a very difficult league, and typically his high school never wins a game inside the conference. This year was the first year year they made the playoffs in like 12 years, and they ended up losing to my high school in the division final. I went to the game, and while they could barely move the ball on us, this kid was a breath of fresh air. He basically was their whole offense and performed quite well on in my opinion the best defense in the state. Also he goes to the only catholic high school in Detroit, so that helps.

Yeah... I'll take an Elite 11 invitee as a walk on any damn day of the week.

Keep in mind that this is a really fluid time for recruiting so this may change and if/when it does I'll try to update what his thoughts are.

Per TJ,

Assuming 8 more spots (safe assumption now), the minimum is:

1RB
1 WR
1 best-available RB/WR/APB
1 QB; won't reach down for any QB, though, so otherwise this spot becomes another Skill Athlete
1 DE who's a pass rusher
1 LB, preferably an Outside/Inside type
2 CBs, either both pure or one a CB/cover S type

Anything beyond that -- adding a K earlier on, or example -- suggests the class number will be 21-22. It's conceivable now.

Ideally, they'd add 1QB, 4 Offensive Skill Athletes (RB/WR/TE), 1 RushDE, 2CB, 1LB, and 1 best-available DL or LB or K.

Have to see how it all plays out. Plan is somewhat flexible.

1 QB - Waller
4 Skill Athletes - Jamabo, Newsome, St. Brown, Boykin
1 Rush DE - Wallace
2 CB - Crawford, Reid
1 LB - Hilliard
1 DL/LB - Bilal

Would be a semi-realistic dream finish

Sorry to nit pick, but on what planet do you see Bilal playing DL?

TJ's breakdown said it would be either a DL or LB depending on best available. He's saying Bilal is the best available

Full season highlights of Ryan Brand.

2013-2014 Full Season Highlights - Ryan Brand highlights

This is a storyline to follow. The other day TJ made a point to say that we won't bring in just any QB on scholarship. If we don't land one of the few left that we like, bringing in somebody like Brand as a PWO is a possibility. He's intrigued about the idea and has an active dialogue with Coach Lafleur. Now I would bet that Brand gets some offers that he doesn't want to pass up. Although he is short this kid can play.
