Baylor or TCU could have a "wtf" game against Oklahoma. And Pitt could play spoiler out of the ACC Coastal. They have a pretty easy road to the conference championship game and then who knows. If Pitt can knock off Clemson or FSU and win the ACC at 11-2, that bodes very well for us

I think Oklahoma definitely gets one of those two

Temple is also ranked now at #24. However I can easily see them dropping a game next week at Ecu while looking ahead of themselves toward our game.

Pitt is 28th. Could be in top 25 when they play us in 3 weeks. Need Stanford to be 10-1 when we play.

Iowa jumping us is a nonfactor. They will lose to whoever they play in the B1G championship.

Coaches have ND as the 2nd ranked 1 loss team behind only Bama. Surprised.

Three games left vs top 25 opponents. All on the road, definitely won't be easy but I think this team/coaching staff will be ready for it. I could see an 11-1 Irish team getting in, if Stanford can lose to an, now, unranked team and get top 10. Irish losing by two points on the road in a monsoon should get some kind of credit.

Also, once the committee starts voting, won't the AP essentially be pointless ? Ex, Ohio State could be number one in the AP but 3rd in the playoff and that's all that matters, right ?

The AP and Coaches polls are pointless completely. Yes. The committee might see teams much differently than these two polls. Like Herbstreit releases his top four each week. He has Baylor, LSU, Alabama, and OSU in his top four. With TCU and Clemson on the outside. Why? IDK .

Go back and look at his top four for each week and it is very random flavor of the week stuff up till this week which seems to be a bit better than previous ones.

Alright, that's what I was thinking. I follow Kirk and a few others on Twitter yeah, very different top four from them every week. Irish can't really control anything but who they play on Saturdays now, hopefully more teams ahead of them take some losses.

I was just thinking how awesome it would be if OSU/um/MSU all have these highly touted brawls for the BIG then Iowa had a big day and shut all of them up in the conference title game.

One can dream....

anyone else worried about getting disrespected by the committee when the playoff rankings come out, much like last year?

What's there to respect right now though? We have zero wins against ranked teams, and none of them are even receiving votes right now.

well, i think 6-1 against all fbs opponents is pretty respectable, with a lone loss to the number 6 team in the nation on the road by 2 points.

but I'm actually talking about when the rankings come out Nov. 3rd

which we won't have much more to show, except maybe a win over a ranked temple team.

But the all fbs schedule has to count for something, no?

We have to hope USC goes off down the stretch and for a few upsets down the stretch as well

Let's hope we pull the old move up to our three spots next week without even playing

Absolutely, I am really surprised by a lot of posts on here that seem very confident in our abilities to qualify for the playoffs if we win out. It will not be easy. We will need to beat out at the very least 2 conference champs. One obviously the PAC 12. Just don't see another one swinging are way. GaTech, and Miami both winning at home next week would be a start

What does it do for us of GT, Miami, win next week, and USC wins for two weeks in a row?

well the one thing that is going for us, is that in the ap at least, every team ahead of us has to play each other, if the playoff ranks look quasi similar to the ap poll that will bode well for us.

if they are going to factor in SOS, than 7-0 with osu's schedule is at least the same if not worse than a 6-1 with ours. and how does bama's 6-1 compare to ours, with their loss to ole miss looking terrible does a win over an overrated(my opinion i know) Tamu team give them a big boost over us? the georgia win is much like our gtech win in hindsight.

I would really like to be a fly on the wall in those meetings, because osu has played nobody, and has looked bad doing it. they don't deserve to be 1 right now, but ap and coaches all put too much weight in the championship they won last year.

My 1 right now would be utah, 1b lsu. with what they've done.

Is that total strength of schedule, or strength of schedule for teams played thus far?

Schedule to Date.

From Sagarin:
The SCHEDULE ratings represent what the rating would have to be for a
hypothetical team to have a mathematical expectation of winning precisely 50%
of their games against the schedule played by the team in question in the games
that it has played so far
. The schedule difficulty of each given game takes
into account the rating of the opponent and the location of the game.

Would really help us if these games can go ND's way. Hopefully next week is one of those crazy weeks that no one expects. Another interesting matchup is WKU +16 at LSU. LSU is very good this year, but coming of an emotionally charged game vs UF. I could see a talented WKU keeping it close.
