I love the battle! It's so healthy for our program.

At the end of the day, I still believe it's Golson's to lose, given his experience.

However, Zaire is hitting the field hard, and his running ability as a secondary weapon has been impressive (just in the short clips).

He will definitely see time this year.

Hopefully, he will keep up the mentality that he expresses in the interview below throughout the season. It's going to be a challenge, but he needs to be ready for whatever the moment might throw at him. The occasion might arise when we are really going to need him THIS year.

He's not starting, but I love him and he'll get PT this year and be a real player for us one day.

Zaire's a better runner than Golson. Golson has a better arm than Zaire.

Just different skill sets, but both read option/BK spread type QBs.

Again... we are in big trouble if one of them goes down for the year. Simple as that. By "We" I literally mean us as fans. EG could go down and MZ closes the season great. As fans we will shit our pants every play that whoever is the QB doesn't get hurt!

Malik is a read option QB first then a passer second. Thats not saying he isnt a good passer. The kid ran wishbone/triple option/read option in high school and he knows how to run option and where to take angles and the finer points of pulling the ball or giving it up. That alone makes him more explosive as a runner. His experience and knowledge makes him trust his read and makes a play and I would be shocked if he even thought about pulling it out/giving it up....its just a reaction. Golson on the other hand threw for 11,000 yards in high school, so there wasnt a ton of read option. He is more than athletic to run read plays, but its not natural to him. Im going out on a limb and leaving my homerish side out, but if theres a better arm in the country Id love to see it. Everything from his release points to him just spinning the ball is natural. Malik can spin it but its not in the same league. Malik actually surprised me with his accuracy in the redzone, he has enough strength to fit the ball in tight windows. Does he see it as quick as Golson? No, but thats just one of Golsons strengths.

Malik would be an ideal QB for what ohio st, and auburn run. He is a kid that can take a beating and deliever punishment in the run game, but is far more advanced at this point than Miller or Marshall. ND can run something like osu/aub with the backs and line they have if Zaire was the QB and I think itd be pretty damn successful. Golson fits what Kelly has ran for years. He can get the ball vertical, while adding that ability to get outside of the pocket and create plays or roll out to overload the defense.

1) I think you meant more than athletic enough, is that correct? I am not sure that I like Golson's handling of the ball on read options; potential problem?

What I see on EG vs' MZ is that Everett uses his feet to scramble more in the backfield, Mailik will use his feet for north and south.

Malik is a superior , a simply terrific runner. He is far better then Golson running the ball. He is bigger, faster and a natural runner. I cannot recall seeing a QB use a sweeter looking stiff arm then Zaire, he is another running back in the backfield and a good one at that!

Golson though is simply a "natural"---he is by far the better passer, the young man can make every throw , he has a golden arm an NFL quality arm.

We are in good shape at QB at this point that much is clear.
