Ishaq, Schmidt, Trumbetti and Onwualu are starters, at least right now. The front seven is clearly the weakest part of this team. On the other hand, the secondary is amazing, especially the cornerbacks, maybe the best unit of Cornerbacks i ever seen in South Bend. It will be a fun season to watch.

Talk about a dramatic change. Bonner was recruited as an outside linebacker, but at 269 he was projected to move to an end position, and now he is the backup for Sheldon Day at the three technique, shading the outside shoulder of the offensive guard. Chase Hounshell had been working there in the spring and Jacob Matuska also has been playing on the inside with Justin Utupo.

Kelly has described Bonner's camp as "excellent" and particularly likes his explosiveness off the ball. Does not play like a freshman.

The kid is strong. He made McGovern look pretty bad in their 1 on 1 rep from earlier in the week.

Use the bulky subs to help stop the run, get to passing situations, rotate in the young, fresh pass-rushers to create havoc while Russell and Co. benefit as ball hawks.

I am thrilled with the news of trumbetti, j.o., martini, Rochelle and shumate! We will be very fast and changing personnel faster than a hockey team in the 5th overtime!

Unless teams go "hurry-up" and don't let us substitute. Happy with what we're hearing about those that have stepped up during camp.

Yet he won't be starting.

Eh, when we play 3 man fronts you'll almost certainly see Ishaq-Jones-Rochelle... and this will probably happen more often than we currently expect to give Day breathers. Alternatively, Rochelle is going to provide breathers/3rd down rush on the interior DL in 4 man fronts. Or he can play SDE in standard sets to spell Ishaq. He might not be a starter "starter" but it'd be shocking if he didn't play a high volume of snaps all over the line.

So with the news on Trumbetti where does Okwara fit?

he backs him up

Most likely #2 behind him. Keep in mind that Williams and Hill are situational players so if Trumbetti goes down that doesn't mean Jhonny is going to take over his job. Okwara most likely is #2 at WDE.

Anyone care to take a stab at listing the two-deep after that presser? I would but I feel like I've missed a few things already this fall.

he backs him up

Do you think he will be frequently rotating in or only called upon whenTrumbettis is wore out or if he gets hurt? Also is this more a reflection on Okwara not performing well or Trumbetti coming in as a stud?

Obviously I'm not Pandfan but it seems the concensus is that it speaks more to Trumbetti's skill than it does to Okwara not performing. Okwara saw the field last year and I believe recorded a sack, so it's not like we are talking about a kid who didn't do anything getting passed up. I also believe this very question was answered a little ways back in the thread.

Yup, double checked Wooly talked about it .... Page 28

4DL: I. Williams - Day - Rochelle/Jones - Trumbetti
3LB: Jaylon - Schmidt/Morgan - James O.
Corners: Riggs - Russell
Safeties: Redfield - Collinsworth - Shumate (Nickel)

Seem accurate as of right now as far as starters go?
