Really encouraged by what Mike Frank had to say about Ishaq today. Said it was the most effort he has ever seen from him - he was dialed in the whole time and McGlinchey twice and Elmer once in the 11 on 11s.

It would be soooo huge if he took a step forward this year.

Yeah, let's hope he fulfills his potential this year. It really is encouraging though because I think Mike has been his biggest critic of the ND personalities that I have seen. Kind of gets me pumped up to hear that actually. Go kick some ass Ishaq!

Me too, I am really rooting for him.

The practice reports make me wonder why CJ Procise is a slot reciever, though. He basically sounds like a huge, fast, athletic guy with slightly quentionable hands: ie., a safety or a LB. Maybe he just never loved to hit?

In 33 years of covering Notre Dame football, I’ve never seen the offensive linemen - collectively - in better physical condition than this unit. You are not going to find a pair of freshman offensive linemen that look better in a football uniform than Quenton Nelson and Alex Bars.

Luatua is HUGE (it really surprised him how think his lower body is). Even stated "Nobody will be able to handle his size and strength once he gets coached up. He was used as an in-line blocker a number of times and pushed Rochelle around".

Luatua looks great and could definitely be the 3rd TE this year. Doesn't look like a freshman at all.

Pretty excited to hear that about Tyler. He had a rough senior season so it is great to hear him doing well. Season you can now start. Let's get this thing going!!

Yeah, that might be the best news of the day for me. A physical in-line TE was what I was afraid we lacked after Niklas left. I knew Luatua was capable of being that player if he worked hard to get into shape, but he came into his AA game with a less than imposing physique, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It sounds like he found his motivation.

I was excited to hear about Luatua as well. We forget that at one point Luatua was pretty unanimously regarded as the #1 TE in the 2014 class. Questions regarding his desire, poor fitness, and a less than spectacular senior year gradually led to him falling down the rankings. Hopefully he's got the fire back and will end up living up to his original ranking.

The other guys that stood out on D to Mike were Sheldon Day, Jaylon Smith (obviously), Jarron Jones, John Turner (seems to have a great grasp at his position), Jhonny Williams (who compares favorably to Okwara already and plays hard), Cole Luke and Daniel Cage (plays hard with a lot of 'want to').

He also noted that Coach D had the offensive report, but that Chris Brown has the look of a kid who wants to be a star. Was the best WR today, and that Luatus is HUGE (it really surprised him how think his lower body is). Even stated "Nobody will be able to handle his size and strength once he gets coached up. He was used as an in-line blocker a number of times and pushed Rochelle around".

Wow, just wow about Jhonny Williams and Cage.

Chris Brown,,,, been banging that drum since he got here. Going to be special. I hope he, and DD push each other all year long. Sounds like the "want", and the "head" are catching up with the body. Good stuff.

I will make one early prediction. We will have two great Williams this year.

Ishaq will get it done, and really improve his draft grade.

Jhonny Williams is going to turn out to be the real deal. An under the radar freak that has the head to go with it. Will achieve more than some of our most celebrated d-linemen before he is done!

(PS. I believe JW is close to a 4.5 forty in equipment. Close enough that my statement isn't ridiculous. Close enough that he has the speed and strength to give opposing linemen heartburn.)

Thanks to everyone who posted updates. Definitely sounds positive, but opening of camp usually is. What impresses me the most is the size, condition and push the freshmen are making on the depth chart.

Am I the only person slightly worried about the crazy amount of defensive PI I saw in the video? Seems like every other play a DB was holding and yanking on a jersey pretty aggressively.

Yeah Farley was hanging on for dear life....

In the db's defense (pun intended) there was no D line with hands up....no pass rush.....and all man coverage.

Our scheme is going to look like MSU on D... which means a lot of borderline PI.

I'll reiterate something that we tend to forget: Coach honors veterans with start-of-camp loyalty [i.e. opportunity to begin as the first teamers.] I HOPE that Matt Hegarty is first team OLine quality [he certainly was appearing to be heading there prior to health troubles], but I'll wait for a few practices to see if he can hold the spot. If he does he would give us five-across who had started games last year --- Kelly has already said that he considers Stanley, Elmer, Lombard, NMart as returning starters.

Matt's shift to Left Guard then causes the domino effect that we saw first day --- as Bivin is a natural AA-to-be center, and then a tackle slot opens for the Big Q to step in. Man, this Oline looks formidable.

On a different topic, I'm going to do what I always tell others not to do too soon, BUT --- Damm that Brent looks "fast twitch." Every move he made on film looked like a little explosion. We are so loaded at receiver that the bus is crowded, but I'll not be surprised one bit if he passes some vets up.

Luatua looks a lot bigger than 6'2"

Loved that pick by Redfield at the end.

I'll analyze some 3 minute video for you.

Golson, Brown, Bryant, and Redfield will all win the heisman. And based on that break down, Koyac will be a captain. What else do you want to know?
