Heurman needs to get on the Luatua meal plan lol

Luatua is short for a TE, by my gosh is it easy to see why he was so highly ranked early. Physically imposing player and could be a great presence in-line or in an h-back role.

Our scheme is going to look like MSU on D... which means a lot of borderline PI.

This is a good point. Think back to the MSU game from last year, lots of defensive PI calls against them...one or two of which were questionable. The way their defense works, their CBs are out on an island and often locked up 1 on 1 without help over the top all the time. You require good CBs to make that defense work, and it looks like we've finally gotten to that point. I'd expect we draw some more PI calls this season because of this defense, but we should also get off the field sooner since we'll be more aggressive. That means less reps for the defense, more opportunities for our offense.

Luckily PI is only 15 yards in college. If you get beat, grab 'em. Take the 15 but don't give up the 6.

In the db's defense (pun intended) there was no D line with hands up....no pass rush.....all man coverage and no schematic confusion...

You may recall Kevarie Russell doing just that against Marquise Lee in the 2012 USC game. Back to back PIs - and quite intentional ones - in the end zone late in the game. They were first and goal from the 1, but they never scored that 6. Love the way that guy plays.

My favorite play is at 3:52. Corey Robinson gets held, turns his head and has .3 seconds to find the ball, catches it, and gets two feet in. 88 catches everything.

Love CRob! I agree! The thing that stands out to me is how much stronger, and maybe even how much faster he is. Last year he could take a shot and be disrupted, but still get back for the ball. In this clip, the defender (Luke?) looked like he moved into Corey's uniform, and Corey was still able to maintain a decent route.

In the clip after that Tyler Luatua looked massive, and machine like! Someone else mentioned how tall he looked. I watched him against Farley in that clip. When he was on the up-field part of his route (headed toward the camera) he looked about six inches taller than Farley. When he broke for the ball on his outside shoulder and Farley chased him it gave a good look where they were nearly the same height. Which makes more sense. I think that with his strength and natural low center of gravity, he can extend himself more as he is moving. Which may be good for quarterbacks looking for the target.

Yeah, that was exactly my thought when I saw the play occur. For a number of years our DBs weren't looking for the ball, or even trying to disrupt the receiver if they weren't going to be able to make a play on the ball. Russell gets it, and while you may not always be able to get a stop on the goal line like they did later in that drive, it's sure nice when you do end up denying any points.

Even with some possible PI calls, I liked that the receivers were still able to catch the ball, even those that were right on top of them as they came out of their breaks. Good concentration and hands.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the holding. Just about every team that plays tight man does it. Like it was said, not all will be seen and 15 yards is better than 6 points

Brent seemed pretty bulked up to me already tbh, but ya serious POTENTIAL

I'm not sure you analyzed that 10 second Vine properly. Brent will clearly be All American #29 on this team this year. /noitalics
