Now a 4:s: ATH on 247 too. You're typical "big skill" player we usually love but it's not a position of need in this class. Already have a bunch of TE/OLB and the prospects on our board right now are all more highly rated.

IMO, probably a better prospect than Randolph when all is said and done. Looks like Michigan will be next to offer. ND football coaches supposedly haven't really been in contact at all... and I promise you our lacrosse coaches have absolutely no idea how "big time" recruiting works.

We don't really have any DOG prospects besides Dillon Bates who I think is leaning pretty heavy towards Tennesseee

Yeah, exactly. We loaded up at both positions in the last class... now we're in a situation where we're looking at only a handful of elite prospects for either TE or DOG and not typical versatile project players in the "big skill" category.

Ok this may be a stupid question here. But does the fact that he is somewhat of a project player in football and stud lacrosse player have any impact on this? Could he redshirt freshman year of football, have 4 years of eligibility left, while playing lacrosse immediately? Damn, I think I just confused myself.

To my understanding, you have 5 years of college sports eligibility, so yes.

Greg Paulus did four in baskteball and one in football, I assume that'd work with Lacrosse.

Thank you guys, I wasn't sure how that worked out. I know you get 5 years, just wasn't positive how it worked with other sports involved.

Are we seriously getting upset about potentially losing a LAX commit?

Even if he is a 4 star OLB, there many other recruits that are higher on our list at that position.

Well a lot of us root for ND as an entire school, not just the football team.

Not 'we', just 'us' (folks who enjoy football AND other sports at the school). You obviously don't care (even though Stanford turns these players into all-conference players and sometimes even pros), so why even post on his thread?

So we can't analyze basketball nor can we care about Lacrosse on IE now? Okay.

I like many others think he has a lot of potential as an OLB in a 3-4. Like NDinLA stated this is exactly what standford turns into QB sacking machines. 3 more years in a weight room and some technique work and I can see it. He's got Trent Murphy written all over him

lol

This guy is the classic big long and athletic talent Kelly was scouring the country for in 2010, 2011, 2012. In 2013 they went away from it a bit.

He's basically a Councell/Spond/Mattingly type player, who can be a real force at DOG or even TE/S. Do you know what kind of ground you can cover when you're 6'6?? You can't teach that.

The kid plays against elite competition. It doesn't get much better than Cincinnati Moeller's conference and schedule.

Oh, and Urban ****ing Meyer thinks he's athletic enough to play there. He sorta knows what he's doing.

Really depends on how you want consider the situation. Some of us, frankly, care about lacrosse. There are a couple different ways to look at this from a football standpoint:

1. If Danny Spond just up and quit the team or got hurt or otherwise was not playing any more, would you care? Because this kid was/is potentially a free Danny Spond clone with better physical attributes/upside.

2. For a more apt comparison, did you care when Mattingly and ND went different directions? Probably not, because it was a mutual decision and not a position of dire need with Randolph on board in addition to Jaylon. Would you have cared if Mattingly was going to come as a walk-on/greyshirt? I think most would've been pretty bummed then.

3. Do you care if Stanford gets him? I do, and I think most would. Do you care if Ohio State gets him? I do, but many probably won't because there is no lacrosse angle for them. Do you care if Michigan gets him? This I'm fuzzy on because we stop playing Michigan in football, they suck at lacrosse and one elite top 30 player isn't going to fix them, but I also vehemently dislike Michigan so I kinda care.

Even if he is a 4 star OLB, there many other recruits that are higher on our list at that position.

Actually, outside of Dillon Bates who is an elite prospect we aren't recruiting anyone at that position. This is the main issue. Hubbard can play TE/DOLB and neither are positions we're really actively recruiting for except for elite prospects at TE. In another year, he would likely receive an offer as a "big skill" player but this year we are quite tight on numbers.

Michigan offered as expected as did Michigan State

He said he would consider playing football if he got an offer from ND, OSU, Stanford, or Michigan. Now has an offer from all of the last three.

I, as most of you, have a lot of trust in the coaching staff when it comes to recruiting. If they have only offered one DOG linebacker then I think it is pretty telling they don't think that position is a priority this cycle. Would I take him? Absolutely. Do we need him? No. I would much rather use that scholarship at a position of need.

Miami offered.

He's gone national: Boston College (NE), Stanford (W), Miami (S)

Even though he may not go to a school like Louisville or Miami the more BCS offers to me means the smaller the chances he stays with his Lacrosse commitment.

With the opening up of some schollies, I do wonder if the staff will take a little closer look at him.

He's so academics first it's really irrelevant what other offers he gets. From what I've heard there's no chance he'd consider a place like an Alabama or FSU. The fact that he hasn't already switched his commitment to Stanford, Michigan, or Ohio State is a testament to how much he likes ND. It's too bad we're so full up at DOG... I think he's a better prospect than Randolph.

Will be interesting to follow this as it progresses. Both ND lacrosse and football will more than survive without him... but it would be much more fun to not see him on an opponent's sideline.

A kid who absolutely values academics, plays lacrosse "primarily," and really likes ND.

That's the kind of kid you recruit, if you have scholarship space, even if you are full at the position. You never know who will stick it out and he's one of those guys that you wouldn't have to worry about.

If Randolph and Councell get moved to ILB, we'd have room for Hubbard at DOLB. Both Spond and Shembo will be gone by the time he hits campus, and Jaylon would be the only sure Dog at that point.

“When I told him I thought he’d get offers from some football schools, he gave me a list,” Rodenberg said. “He said, ‘I really like Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame or Stanford.’ I said, ‘Well, I’ll call those schools and see what their interest is.’

“Stanford, Ohio State and Michigan got back to me real quick

"I'm going to be playing football in college."

Cited how quickly the offers started coming in when his coach said he was interested in playing football.

Notre Dame is mentioned twice, both times to say he's committed to play lacrosse here. Nothing about football, though.
