Rice is not god awful. Kept up with TAMU in the first game. Decent record. Got pushed around in the bowl by MissSt. We need to spank them. All 2 and 3 star talent the last 4 to 5 recruiting cycles. They have increased their 3 star quantities the last 2 cycles. 55-24

I wouldn't put too much stock into that A&M game. I remember that Johnny Football didn't play for the first half, and the second half he returned and lit them up. Also, as much concern there is for our defense this year, A&M's defense last year was ATROCIOUS. Add to that, they were missing 6 defensive starters that game.

I'm predicting we hang 50 on them, so I'm not putting too much stock into that :).
We do have several Qs of our own. My point is that Rice is a decent mid major. They SHOULD NOT be able to keep up with our O or D, but larger upsets have happened.

I'm always jacked up about this time, but this year they seem to look sharper, faster, etc.. Am I the only one, or is it just the same koolaid, different year.

Different kool-aid. Last year was grape. This year it's cherry.

Top Ten Reasons Irish football fans are excited:
10. We had something of a disappointing season last year and this is a chance for redemption.
9. Golson is back.
8. Reports from the winter and spring workouts note a lot of improvement across the board.
7. Ishac appears ready to make his presence felt.
6. BVG is bringing an aggressive defense.
5. Bryant is ripped.
4. Some of the talented freshmen and sophomores are making noise in camp.
3. We have Jaylon, they don't.
2. Luatua's legs are enormous.
1. But the biggest reason is simply.........Because it's the start of a new Notre Dame football season!

Poor Nick Watkins. Two videos, two highlights getting burnt by Justin Brent.

There is an embarrassment of riches at the receiver position.

His hands... Mother of God.

Loved seeing Brent torching Watkins(?) in one of those one-on-one clips, too.

Obviously unfair to compare a college freshman to an All-pro WR, but Brent in his build and game reminds me a college freshman version of Dez Bryant. Hopefully he develops like Bryant and becomes a total stud.

I read this quickly and somehow thought you were talking about Robinson. I was about to come over and smash your kool-aid jar ;).

Reminds me more of Anquan Boldin. I don't think he is as fast as Dez.

I can see that too, but he definitely looks pretty explosive and fast in the recent slips of him. Hakeem Nicks is another comparison that comes to mind too.

That's exactly who I see as a comparison. Big strong body and hands, quick but not overly fast, looks like he can give and take punishment with the ball in his hands. I wasn't expecting Brent to see the field this year but now I'm wondering if we'll be able to keep him off. He may force Kelly's hand as he looks polished and, judging by videos, establishing a connection with the QBs.

I think Brent is a lot faster than people are crediting him. I recall a ST play where his teammate fumbled a punt return, Justin picked it up and before I realized he even had the ball, he was in the endzone. That may sound like an exaggeration, but I'm telling you, he got there in a hurry and no one was even close to him. Obviously, his competition could've made him seem a whole lot faster and I'm not claiming he's a 4.3 guy. But the kid definitely has enough wheels to make some big plays.

He'll be hard pressed to crack into the rotation w/ the talent currently ahead of him, but I've felt since day one that he'll contribute on ST in some capacity right out of the gate. He played D in high school too and he's not afraid to lay someone out.

I don't know how to start a new thread or where to put this info but my ohio state buddy just said there is a rumor of us playing them 2019 through 2022 he said it was on our 247. I couldn't find it but I wanted to know if there was any truth to this.

The rumor was also on the II board.

Any opportunity to beat the crap out of Urban Liar is a good thing in my book. As long as we win that is.

I was wondering when this was going to happen.

Playing OSU/Ohio makes much more recruiting sense than MSU and Michigan, IMO.

As much as I didn't like playing Georgia, I "get it" why that makes sense.

I don't know what playing Ohio State does for us, unless we think beating them gives us an edge in recruiting that state. If Option A is Ohio State and Option B is a southern school, I'd take B.

Plus I'm sure it will piss off the Michigan fans that we would schedule pOSU but not them.

I think it will be an awesome game but I agree with you Lax it doesn't really expand our brand or help with recruiting but it will make for entertaining Saturdays in Cincinnati
