Based on Kelly's comments today about Golson's leadership I for sure thought he would be one. Maybe next year.

Not saying it hasn't happened but I can't recall a kicker being a captain of a football team.

It's extremely common in the NFL many college teams have a special teams captain.

Saw 2013 captains list for NFL teams. Interesting. Five teams chose captains on a weekly basis. One team (Jets) had zero captains. Of the others Jay Feely and David Akers were the only kickers named as captains and in both cases those team had 6 captains, 2 for offense, 2 for defense and 2 for ST's.

Of the teams that rotate captains it's very common for one to be a kicker. Just watch any NFL game. You will notice it a lot. It's usually because the kickers have been on that particular team longer than anyone.

Glad to see Cam and Day as captains. Both seem like guys that have the right attitude and lead by example. Same with Martin, and I didn't see Collinsworth coming I guess. I haven't kept up as much as I would like in the Fall practice thread though, so maybe Kelly had mentioned him a bunch.

If you get a chance, watch the Strong and True from the other night. Collinsworth was shown quite a bit as a leader and they especially focused on his impact on Redfield.

Loved when Cam during warm ups was like "Hey coach can I say something to the guys before we break down?". Think it was the practice after all the drama went down as well.
