EG throws that ball so effortlessly..its beautiful.

I have to agree with you 1000%, Grahambo! I just looked at the EG footage and I think that he looks smoother dropping back, looking off his receivers, etc., etc. Better in all facets. It almost look like it takes him no time to throw, at all. I wonder if he has so much improved his mechanics, as his progressions are clearer for him, all phases working, and his natural mechanics are just shining through? I don't know! We need expert commentary!

Miami, Navy, probably a couple others I am not remembering right now. I realize the competition wasn't great but even when the other team knew we were going to run the ball right up the middle, they couldn't stop Cam. I forget which game it was, maybe Miami, but we didn't throw the ball once in the 2nd half or maybe only like 2 passes to start the half and then ran it every down after that. He can run between the tackles. Even GAIII was doing more outside running in those games as opposed to going right up the middle. I doubt anyone will ever be able to duplicate the run Theo had where he looked to be stopped cold and then emerged from the pile of bodies on his feet for almost a very long TD run. I can't seem to recall which game that was, though. Was it Pitt or Stanford, BYU? I seem to recall it was a tight game and that run was exactly what we needed at the time. But Cam can run up the middle, too. He doesn't go down at 1st contact. Even if he isn't in the 2 deep, I hope to see more of him other than garbage time. Maybe some goal line packages.

Just to save you all looking back a couple of pages:

Okay. I will start today with a healthy discussion. My point is that Cam McDaniel deserves his shot and it does not mean that the program is in a bad state of affairs.

1) The first thing Cam brings to the table is leadership and football sense. Not that this will add to his stats, but it is there and we just can't get around it. He is a senior leader in a rs junior package.

2) Does anyone here know how fast or explosive Cam is? He is far from the slowest running-back on the team, or he was last year. And I believe his ten and twenty yard splits are among the fastest. His shuttle should be the fastest. Remember, this kid in high school had a shuttle time faster than any wide receiver in the NFL combine that year.

3) He is the best cut-back runner we have had in a while. Yeah, that is a point in and of itself. That makes him a necessity in a zone blocking offense.

4) Is closely associated to three. He more than any other running back in the program, (other than possibly Amir Carlisle), has shown an ability to use his blockers to their fullest advantage. (Neal ain't too bad, but he uses his [blinding] speed so I can't really rate him.) Cam rides his blockers like a surfer rides a wave. He could be invaluable for the possession control, which he showed against Miami in a brilliant drive last year. He gained something like 55 yards and scored a touchdown when Miami knew he was getting the ball, and he did it without all of the offensive starters. I believe we scored on two second team drives, (Robby Toma) but before that, when did our second team last score? There are times this coming year we will undoubtedly need to demonstrate possession control, and I don't believe we have a better man for it than Cam.

I neglected to post that that was against Miami's first team, with much of our second team, and Miami was playing for pride, if not to get back in the game.

Pssst!

While I got you here, since it is just you and me, why this negative shiit? Toward other posters, not the team. I mean why? Is this really about being right or wrong. I mean I understand when you do it with me, that's fine, I' a big boy. But when some one expresses an opinion, and someone goes out of their way to dog them, that is out of line. I mean I know I am an as$hat some of the time. (Specially round trolls, right?) But I am convinced that someone that tries to rub someone's nose in their own opinion is an as$hat, too. I am just not sure they know it. Make sense? This is a good group, front to back. If we don't give each other a break and let the good times roll, who do we expect will?

I was talking about starting him, not recruiting him. Lane Kiffin, while a poor head coach, is a great recruiter and evaluator of high school talent.

Lane Kiffin wasn't starting him by choice. Their entire backfield, including Amir, was hurt that year.

That's not to say that Amir wasn't deserving of some touches but Kiffin wasn't left with much choice but to give him the ball.

Can barely keep the lid on, totally psyched about this team, and we still have some studs coming in. With guys like Farley, Russell, Amir, EG, Hercules, Brown, TJ, looking like they are making strides and progressing, I think we can be really good. September won't get here soon enough.

Did anyone from the school check with us about not having a practice today? I don't remember that discussion and certainly would not have approved of such.

I'll admit to always having had a man-crush on Chris Brown, but now, seeing him looking thicker and still with that crazy quickness off the line and insane top end speed, it's a full-out love story!

+1. Seeing him for 5 seconds on that video got me pretty hyped, I have to admit. Kid looks like he put on some good weight.

I know we've only been able to see tiny snippets of the first practice, but is anyone else a little disappointed like me in there not being a Davonte Neal sighting in these clips? I guess I'm just over excited to see him bust out on the field next year.

amir's move/route out of the slot is easily the best part of that video.
the nominees are, INPO:
Farley's pick.
KeiVaraie's "d"
Sheldon day coming off the dummy
CBreezy
Diaco's luscious coif
honorable mention: EG's effortlessness

I can tell you this: After watching the footage today from the first practice, Carlisle is extremely quick making cuts and has excellent speed. Compare his cut to Chris Brown's in the route running portion of the video. Man is Carlisle quick and fast, and Brown is no slouch.

Carlisle is going to get his share of touches, and they may include the slot.

K Russell has potential for sure, but I reserve to much excitment when I realized the player he was defending looked like a walk on...who ever #83 is

He has 19 carries in his career. I'm excited for Amir, but let's not put too much stock in Lane Kiffin's decision-making ability.

Not to mention, saying Carlisle "started" at USC is kind of stretching the truth. He "started" 1 game which consisted of him taking the first rushing attempt for USC against Colorado and then not playing again until the 2nd half when they built a comfortable lead. Their backs were really banged up at the time (Tyler missed the Colorado game altogether) so it's not like Amir legitimately beat out everyone at USC and started a bunch of games.

This isn't to say that Carlisle isn't going to be great, but it grinds my gears a little bit when people say he started at USC. Carry on...

One other thing is that nobody was wearing pads (this might help players be a bit quicker and faster)

God we are so desperate for football. We spent the last 20+ posts analyzing a two minute practice video.

Carlisle looked really good. Just one clip but he looks to have gain some solid weight. Lower body looks more powerful than his freshman year at USC. Really liked chris browns route as well. Crisp and clean route I thought and physically he looks like a everydown receiver now. This could be exciting. If brown can be on the field every play that will creat a different dynamic. I remember back when golden was on the field and you never knew when that shot was coming so when it did, angels sang!
